NEWMARKET SANTA CLAUS PARADE Dear Participant The Newmarket Santa Claus Parade Committee would like to thank you for your interest in participating in the 2015 parade. Outlined below are the regulations pertaining to the parade. Please read these carefully to ensure that you are able to abide by all the regulations before you complete and return your application and fee (if applicable). NEW: The deadline for applications is 4 p.m. on Monday November 9, 2015 Parade Date: Saturday November 21, 2015 Time: 9 a.m. - Marshalling of floats begins 10 a.m. - Judging of floats begins 11 a.m. - Parade begins Important Information Theme: All floats/vehicles MUST be decorated in a suitable Christmas theme. Please note that there is only one Santa Claus, and he comes at the end of the parade. At the discretion of the Float Coordinator, floats/vehicles that are not decorated appropriately may be removed from the parade with no refund of the application fee. Fee: $50 for all entries. Registered Charities who can provide a valid CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) official charity status number will be exempt from paying the fee. Unless a CRA number is provided the $50 fee is required. Payment must be attached to the application. Debit and credit cards are NOT accepted. Approval: The Float Co-ordinator will contact you confirming whether or not your float has been approved for the parade. Please note: Only the first 50 approved floats will be accepted into the parade. Route: The parade starts at the corner of Eagle Street and Lorne Avenue and proceeds east on Eagle Street to Main Street, then north on Main Street and finally to Ontario Street. Due to construction on Davis Drive, the parade will end at Ontario Street and floats/vehicles will be disbursed onto Main Street south of Davis Drive. This change will be discussed at the Safety Meeting so it is important that all participants attend the mandatory Safety Meeting. Washrooms: Portable washrooms will be available at the school parking lot on Lorne Avenue (north of Eagle Street), in the Lorne/Roywood area and at the playground on Cane Parkway.
Safety Meeting: A representative from each float MUST attend the MANDATORY SAFETY MEETING on Friday November 13, 2015 at 6:45 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Municipal Office(395 Mulock Drive) and stay for the duration of the meeting. Due to the many changes again this year, it is imperative that you are present for the entire Safety Meeting. Your information package will be available at this meeting, it will include your float number and your arrival time in the marshalling area. Please ensure that you arrive on time. All attendees are also asked to leave their children at home. Parade/Float Information: The parade will from on Cane Parkway. Entrance to the marshalling area is from Mulock Drive. You will be advised of the time your float must arrive in the marshalling area at the Safety Meeting. The float number, which you will receive at the Safety Meeting, must be prominently displayed on the driver s side of the car or towing vehicle. This number must be visible to parade marshals, judges and media. Music (if applicable) coming from a float must be played at a reasonable volume. Marshals and Members of the Committee (in the red Santa jackets) have the right to ask that music be turned off or turned down. For safety reasons, no decorations or skirting should be too low to the ground. Floats must not be more than 14 feet high due to hydro wires. Advertising signs are only permitted on the sides of the float. Signs must be no larger than 3 feet deep and 8 feet long, and must be no higher than 5 feet from the ground. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, the Committee highly discourages the distribution of candy. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, nothing may be thrown from the floats or vehicles, nor by people walking with your float. For the safety of participants, only walkers may hand things out to the spectators as spectators should not be on the street during the parade. Please consider the safety of all. Flyers and handouts must be approved by the Committee. Please attach a sample to your application if you wish to have handouts. Float operators/drivers are required to obey and follow all instructions given by the Parade Marshals. Marshals are readily identifiable by their red Santa Claus Parade Committee jackets. The Newmarket Santa Claus Parade is sponsored primarily by the Town of Newmarket. However, other financial donations and sponsorships to help offset costs of the parade are more than welcome.
