What is Battle of the Teams? The Battle of the Teams is a unique karate event. In which only teams will compete to be the ultimate winner of the tournament. During this event the number of points scored per team competitor will count, instead of the number of winning matches. This unique system will make the tournament exciting until the last minute. Short explanation of the rules of competition. First of all an explanation of the points. A competitor can score in three different ways: - Ippon: one point - Nihon: two points - Sanbon: three points These points can be scored by performing different techniques. Ippon is scored by punching towards body or face of the opponent Nihon is scored by kicking towards the body of the opponent Sanbon is scored by kicking towards the head or by throwing the opponent, which means that the opponent is thrown on the ground followed by a punch or a kick. Furthermore, punishments can be obtained during a competition. The referee will give a punishment for one of the next obstructions: - Contact: hitting the opponent (too hard) in the face - Unsportsmanlike behaviour towards the referee or the opponent - Talking to the referee - The competitor is outside the Tatami IMPORTANT NOTE FOR COACHES Coaches must be in Association tracksuits or colours etc. and must wear their coaching ID badge.
