Association of Students of the Univ. of Nebraska 136 Nebraska Union 1400 R St Lincoln, NE 68588-0461 Dear Student Organization/Residence : Hello! On behalf of the Association of Students at the University of Nebraska (ASUN) and the UNL Homecoming Parade Committee, I would like to invite you to participate in the 2017 Homecoming Parade! We look forward to another successful year of school spirit and festivities that honor the tradition and pride found at the University, and we are so excited to have you join us. This year s homecoming theme is Celebrating 150 Years of Statehood. We look forward to seeing the different ways our students, faculty, and staff embrace and embody this theme. With that being said, the theme in relation to the parade is quite exciting! We are eager to see what you and your fellow RSOs and Residence s have planned to enter into the parade, and the time has come to begin discussing logistics and plans for Friday, September 22nd. If your RSO/Residence is interested in participating in this University tradition, please email either Rose Wehrman or Lauren Lesiak at asun1@unl.edu with contact information of a representative for your organization as well as what type of display your organization will be contributing (i.e. a float, a group of people walking, a car). Please submit your Homecoming 2017 Parade Entry Form to the Student Government office, 136 Nebraska Union by 4pm Thursday September 14th After we receive this information, we will notify you of a mandatory meeting containing more information regarding the Line-Up Roster, FAQs, and important contact information. Thank you for your positive contributions to our campus! Go Huskers! Rose Wehrman & Lauren Lesiak Homecoming Parade RSO/RH Recruiters

2017 Homecoming Parade Entry Rules Rules for the Parade: 1. Mandatory attendance required at the Homecoming meeting on Thursday September 14 th at 7pm (room to be posted). Here, the fire marshal will inspect and approve drawings of floats. Please bring drawings to this meetings accompanied by a representative from your organization. 2. Groups will be responsible for setup, participation during the parade, and teardown/cleanup immediately after the parade. 5. Reference to alcohol, drugs or use of derogatory language will NOT be permitted. If references occur the entry will be disqualified and removed from the parade at the discretion of parade officials. This will also constitute the breaking of the cleanup /commitment and said organization will therefore lose the $50 cleanup deposit. 6. The Parade Steering Committee will inspect the floats immediately prior to the parade start at 6:00 pm. This will check that the floats are safe and appropriate for the parade. Safety concerns include structural integrity and staying within the building parameters. No float can be taller than 14 feet from the ground up and no wider than 8 feet 8 inches. 7. One entry per participating organization. 8. Work and design must be done by participating team members only. Assistance from persons not currently members of the group will result in disqualification from the competition. Car batteries can power these. The general rule is that lights that produce heat must be avoided. No open flames allowed. A fire extinguisher must be present on all float entries and will be supplied by the Parade Steering Committee. 9. If you do not want to submit a check, you also have the option to sign on the form that your SOFS account can be charged if needed. Failure to participate in the parade after submission of an entry, failure to dispose of used materials after the parade, any charges incurred from towing, or any other charges will result in the Parade Steering Committee cashing the $50 commitment/cleanup deposit check and using it to cover those losses. Any incurred costs exceeding $50 pertaining to your entry/fire extinguisher is the sole responsibility of your organization and not the Parade Steering Committee, the UNL Homecoming parade, or the University of Nebraska Lincoln. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has entered into a contract with Pepsi. Reference to other soda vendors is strictly prohibited. Your Parade FAQs: ANSWERED Staging- Gabby asun1@unl.edu Cars & Insurance- Braden asun1@unl.edu When is this again? The homecoming parade will take place on Friday, September 22nd from 6:00-7:30pm. Check-in will begin at 4:30 or 5:00, depending on which group you are in. How do I know what group I am in? The line-up in this packet will tell you what group you are in, and Gabby & Jared, our Homecoming Staging directors, will be sending a email out to let you know where in the parade line up you will be. If you have any other questions regarding your group, ask them! Where do I go? Check-in for Group A will be outside of the Rec, beginning at 5:00. Check-in for Group B will be at the intersection of 14 th and Avery, outside of the Outdoor Adventure center, beginning at 5:00. Check-in begins quite promptly at 4:30 for Group A and 5:00 for Group B. The parade route begins down by the Coliseum, moves east to 16 th Street to R Street, and then goes west to the Student Union south entrance and turns on 13 th Street where destaging will take place in front of Van Brunt. We went all out, and we have a lot of stuff. Where can we put it? Bring all of your necessary materials float, flatbed, vehicle, insurance, candy, etc. with you to your check in area (either Mabel Lee or Outdoor Adventure). Everything you bring must be stored on or in your float, so plan accordingly. If you are bringing a vehicle, please be sure to bring insurance information. Braden Dvorak at asun1@unl.edu will be happy to answer any insurance questions you may have. NOTE: When distributing candy, please remember to hand out. No throwing of candy is allowed. Do we have to bring anything besides what goes on our float? No. Your float/flatbed and all materials needed to finish your float are acceptable, but we want to avoid clutter/litter/safety hazards/lost things at all costs. If you are driving a vehicle for candidates or your float, bring your insurance to display for check-in. We will provide all floats with fire extinguishers and numbers designating their place in the line-up order. The rest is up to you. What if we re going to be late? If you have members of your organization/float who have conflicts that result in your whole group being tardy, you MUST LET Gabby and Jared KNOW PRIOR TO FRIDAY. If you have individual members of your group that will show up later than check-in, it is your responsibility to make sure they arrive before release. The only things that are mandatory upon check-in are your float and a representative to check your organization. The rest is your responsibility. Who can I call/look for with any questions? Gabby & Jared are the staging directors, If you have questions prior to or on parade day contact them by email.
