UCI PARA-CYCLING ROAD WORLD CUP Yverdon-les-Bains / Switzerland From 14 to 16 June 2015 INFORMATION BULLETIN (03.05.2015) SITUATION Yverdon-les-Bains is centrally situated along the main motorways, at a distance of 28 km from Lausanne, 74 km from Geneva, 200 km from Zurich and 544 km from Paris. There are excellent train connections for the Geneva and Zurich airports. The special panoramic train Travys operates on the Sainte-Croix/Les Rasses line (Jura). There is also a landing stage for the boats of the navigation company LNM (Lakes of Neuchâtel and Morat). The airport, with an asphalted tarmac, is 5 minutes away from the A1 motorway. In the heart of the Yverdon-les-Bains region The easily accessible region of Yverdon-les-Bains stretches from the foot of the Jura Mountains to the borders of the southern end of Lake Neuchâtel. Covering plain, town, lake and mountain areas, it is a preserved green lung within the Canton of Vaud. With its rich history, the Yverdon-les-Bains region pleases lovers of calm and of nature. The vast array of excursions, museums, cultural and leisure activities on offer attract many tourists. Nature, history and culture, well-being and regional produce are the region s principal attractions that tempt visitors. Tourist activities The Yverdon-les-Bains region contains 22 major tourist sites and museums that welcome up to 360,000 visitors a year. The accommodation on offer is important, with 31 one-star to four-star hotels and a great number of traditional and welcoming guest rooms. The beaches situated at the southern end of Lake Neuchâtel are renowned for their natural, almost Mediterranean character, and many creeks are open to the public between Concise, Grandson, Yverdon-les- Bains and Yvonand. The nature reserve of Grande Cariçaie as well as the nearby Jura mountain range offer numerous possibilities for hiking and cycling tours. In addition to all these activities, many museums welcome visitors in the area; for example to return to former times or advance into the future at the Maison d Ailleurs museum. Unique in Europe, this museum features science-fiction exhibits, contemplates utopia, and takes the visitor on extraordinary journeys. Caves, medieval towns, and Neolithic sites as well as regional produce complete the offer of this extremely natural and attractive region. Yverdon-les-Bains Shops and handicraft stores are concentrated in the historic part of town, on Pestalozzi Square at the foot of the castle. Paved roads and pedestrian streets offer an exceptional ambiance for a pleasant shopping stroll or while lingering on a sunny terrace. Hotels and shops mainly use Swiss francs but some accept euros.
