<2> Specifications General Specifications This Grain Bin Sidewall is carefully designed to give the owner years of service, provided it is not used for purposes for which it was not intended. The sidewall gage specifications for your bin appear in the Sidewall Gage Build up Tables on pages 32-33. The general material specifications for this Grain Bin Sidewall are as follows. BIN SIDEWALL All bin wall sheets are of corrugated, galvanized steel with 2.66 [67.56 mm] corrugation. Wall sheets have 1.15 oz. per square foot [350 g/m 2 ] zinc coating (G-115 designation). 2.66 corrugation sheets have 32 [813 mm] vertical coverage. Horizontal coverage of bin wall sheets is 112 1/2 [2,856 mm]. All light gage sidewall sheets have hill and valley bolting on vertical seams. Heavy sheets have valley only bolting on vertical seams. All 5/16 and 3/8 bolts are electro-galvanized grade 8.2 with self-sealing injection molded washers. Sealer tape is provided to seal all vertical sidewall seams. DOORS On 2.66 Grain Bins, a single 32 [813 mm] door is standard on all sizes and a (2) ring 64 [1,626 mm] walk door is available as an option on most diameters. Further details on both doors are found on pages 34-45. The standard location for a 2.66 Grain Bin 32 door is in the second and third ring from the bottom. All 64 doors have (3) inner panels and an outer door cover. All 32 doors have (2) inner panels and an outer door cover. For allowable door placements see the tables on pages 34-35. (1) ring doors are placed in the second sidewall ring from the bottom. (2) ring doors are placed in the second and third sidewall rings from the bottom. On 24 [7.36 m] diameter and smaller 2.66 Grain Bins, a (2) ring door with auger panel opening is available. An auger shield is required at extra cost. All welds are of non rusting silicone bronze. GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC. 10

Specifications DESIGN CRITERIA 2.66 Grain Bins are designed to store free flowing, noncorrosive whole grains with a bulk density of 48 lb/ft 3 [768.5 kg/m3] (60 lb/bushel) or less. Bins are designed to be filled through the center roof opening only, and to be emptied from the center. Any off center unloadings should be used only for clean out after discharge has been complete to the angle of repose. Use sectional sweep augers with sections no longer than half the radius on 42 [12.8 m] diameter and larger bins. Completely clean out the center section before the next auger section is added. Have your builder make all non-bin equipment, such as LEGS, WALK-WAYS, SPOUTING and CONVEYORS, in excess of company s recommendations and self supporting. You must furnish the adequate ventilation area to match the Cubic Foot per Minute output of the aeration fan installed on your bin. A rule of thumb is, no more than 1000 Cubic Feet per Minute [30 m 3 /min] per 1 Square Foot [0.093 m 2 ] vent opening. WARNING! Do not cut openings in grain bins. This reduces the structural strength of the unit and can cause partial or complete grain bin failure. WARNING! DO NOT OVERFILL THE GRAIN BIN ROOF AREA! This prevents proper air movement through roof vents and may also cause roof damage or failure! WARNING! When you run your aeration fans, make certain your VENTS ARE OPEN and kept clean of all debris and frozen matter. An aeration system can, without proper management, create a greater load on a roof than equipment or snow and can damage the roof. WARNING! WHEN YOU LOAD OR UNLOAD THE GRAIN BIN, ALWAYS DO IT FROM THE CENTER! This creates an even load on the structure. Only use your intermediate sumps for clean-up. Off-center loading or unloading creates excessive STRESSES and can cause failure. All grain bins should be filled at the peak ring center with an auger or spout of adequate length to allow grain to drop straight down into the Grain Bin. A leveling device is strongly recommended. WARNING! Installation of accessories or equipment this Grain Bin / Grain Bin Sidewall was not designed to support will overstress the structure and void all Global Industries, Inc. Warranties! If you do not have specific recommendations from Mfs/York/Stormor where additional loading is involved, contact the Mfs/York/Stormor Engineering Department before installing any such accessories or equipment. Approximate torque levels for the fasteners that bolt your bin together are listed here. For all these bearing type sidewall sheet connections, a snug-tight condition is sufficient to ensure structural soundness, where snug-tight is defined as the tightness attained by several impacts on an impact wrench, or the full effort of a worker with an ordinary spud wrench that brings the connected sheets into firm contact. A properly tightened bolt must have its seal washer fully seated in the hole and the sheets fully drawn together to produce a water-tight seal. Have your contractor demonstrate that he/she is tightening the bolts correctly. WARNING! UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL ANY OTHER BOLT BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THOSE SUPPLIED BY MFS/YORK/STORMOR! Check Delivery Grain bin assembly components are carefully checked before shipment. However, you should inspect your shipment upon arrival using the provided Packing List to insure it is complete. CAUTION: All galvanized steel is subject to oxidation, sometimes called white rust when exposed to moisture from any source. Plenty of care should be taken to protect sidewall sheets and roof sheets. INSIDE STORAGE IS ADVISABLE. When on the job site, sheets should be placed on edge far enough apart to let air circulate freely. GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC. 16

<3> Site / Foundation BIN SITE LOCATION Check your site locations for possible problems with the following: 1 High wind or snow load area 2 Waterways or run off 3 Poor soil conditions / soil problems 4 Local codes / permits 5 Power lines 6 Highways 7 Railroads 8 Seismic load 9 Hopper bins CHOOSING A BIN SITE Consideration should be given to convenience in loading and unloading and accessibility to existing and planned facilities. The site should be level, on firm soil, with adequate drainage. Any fill used in leveling the site MUST BE well compacted to prevent uneven settling from weight of the foundation, bin and contents. After the site is completely level, use 1 to 2 [25 mm - 50 mm] of fill sand to act as a cushion under the concrete slab. MFS/YORK/STORMOR standard foundation drawings and specifications show soil bearing pressures required. It is the obligation of the purchaser to obtain a soil bearing test and ascertain that the foundation has sufficient strength for a capacity filled bin. Unless the finished foundation is level and true, and the site properly graded for water drainage, failure of the foundation could result. This is not covered by the Global Industries Inc. Warranty. At the time the soil is compacted and the foundation is poured, make certain the work is being done in accordance with your soil engineer s specifications. Remember - if your soil isn t right, your foundation could TIP AND CRACK - if your foundation isn t right, your bin could fail. The foundation information on pages 17-21 is intended as a guide only and is not to be interpreted as firm instruction. If at a later date, the bin is increased in height, the foundation may not be adequate. Anchor bolts should be to specifications and be set when pouring the foundation as improper anchoring will give you a WEAK structure. The bin is ROUND and to keep it round, the anchor bolts should follow a SCRIBED CIRCLE with the correct chord dimensions between the anchor bolts. The base ring of the bin must rest firmly on the foundation with absolutely no overhang. Instructions 1. Lay out the foundation by driving a small pipe to mark the center of the pad. The top of the pipe should be the height of the foundation. 2. Using the pipe for a center pivot, you can use a chain with a sharp stake attached to the outer end to scribe on the ground the foundation diameter. (A board may be used instead of a chain.) 3. After pouring the concrete, and while it is still soft, locate your anchor bolts. Use the center pipe and chain again to mark the correct diameter to set the anchor bolts. Use a measured chain (or chord) to get the correct spacing between holes. GLOBAL INDUSTRIES, INC. 17

Site / Foundation FOUNDATION NOTES: 1. The foundation site should be well drained and free of vegetation and/or debris. 2. Foundation(s) should be on undisturbed soil or engineered compacted backfill. 3. A soil and foundation (Geotechnical) investigation should be conducted for each site to confirm the soil bearing capacity. 4. Foundation Design is based on the specified allowable soil bearing capacity. 5. The concrete shall have a minimum compressive strength of 3,000 psi at 28 days. a 6. Concrete should be allowed to cure 7 days before starting tank assembly and 28 days before filling the bin. 7. Concrete should be kept level to ±1/8 in 10 and 1/2 across the diameter. b High spots or debris should be removed before setting the bin. 8. Anchor bolts need to be properly located based on the information provided in order to keep the tank round, and to ensure structural integrity of the bin while guaranteeing effective transfer of wall forces down to the foundation. Minimum recommended cast-in-place anchors for standard conditions shall be A307 9 x 3 hooked bolts of the required diameter: 3/4 for Commercial Flat-Bottom Bins (1 required for 60 and larger bins with a side draw) and Commercial Hopper Tanks, 5/8 for Unstiffened Grain Bins, and 1/2 for Unstiffened Hopper Bins. The hook of the bolt must be placed below horizontal rebar for proper transfer of forces. Alternately, a hex-head bolt with flat washers or an epoxy adhesive anchor of equivalent strength may be used. Check with epoxy anchor vendor or manufacturer for strength ratings and for proper installation instructions. 9. All reinforcing rod for concrete reinforcement shall conform to ASTM A615, Grade 60. 10. Rebar should lap a distance equal to (Rebar Dia. x 24). Minimum allowable lap is 18 - i.e: #6 Rebar has a diameter of 6/8 : 24 x.75 = 18, or an 18 lap. c 11. Estimates for Rebar do NOT include allowances for the lap. 12. The stiffener and sidewall must be supported over tunnels. 13. Concrete yardage figures do NOT include any allowances for aeration trenches or tunnels. 14. Ring reinforcement must be continuous around the tunnels. 15. To help minimize potential frost heave, the bottom of the footings should be at or below the frost line. Alternately, the footings could be supported on non-expansive fill materials (such as crushed stone or gravel) which are not susceptible to frost heave, extending below the frost line; however, some local building codes do require the footing to extend below the frost line. 16. Foundation Design is based on an allowable soil bearing capacity of 3,000 psf for unstiffened Grain Bins and 3,500 psf for Commercial Stiffened Bins. d 17. The foundation details in this manual are to be considered general in nature and are intended only as a guide. This design is for standard external loading conditions: 90 mph wind speeds and seismic zone 0 earthquake loads. It is the owner s responsibility to provide an appropriate site and foundation design for the adequate support of the grain bin. <5> Sidewall Assembly GENERAL ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS 1 Plan for the location of the door, bin ladders, roof steps, manway, fans, unload auger, accessories, and other equipment. 2 Complete the foundation. See the foundation section in the front part of this manual. 3 Arrange the sidewall sheets near the pad in preparation for assembly. 4 Assemble the top sidewall sheet ring. Make certain all sidewall sheets overlap in the same direction. 5 Install the eave ring (and) eave clips. Raise the peak ring to the correct height on the center support (center jack) and assemble the roof. 6 Continue by raising the bin and installing additional sidewall sheet rings making certain sidewall sheets continue to overlap in the same direction. 7 Install ladders or spiral bin stairs in the proper location as the sidewall is built (if this grain bin comes with such equipment). 8 Install the door in the second ring from the bottom (1 ring door) or second and third ring from the bottom (2 ring door). 9 Install the bin hold-down brackets to the base of the bottom sidewall sheets. Install the base angle around the entire bin, applying the (optional) base sealer at the same time if is included with this grain bin. 10 If this grain bin comes equipped with a floor, build the floor using the manual included with the floor bundle. 11 Install any bin optional equipment. 12 Make certain all connections are tight. i IMPORTANT NOTE: The following portion of this manual gives the necessary assembly details and drawings to enable you to successfully complete the construction of your MFS/YORK/STORMOR grain bin sidewall. Familiarize yourself with this entire manual before starting construction. WARNING! Never locate (or cut) any opening at a vertical sidewall seam! Sidewall Assembly Typical Sidewall Assembly, Build Ring 1 CAUTION: IMPORTANT! Follow the steps below throughout the entire sidewall construction! NOTE: FAILURE TO FOLLOW SIDEWALL SEALING INSTRUCTIONS MAY ALLOW WATER PENETRATION! 1 set out sheets, build the top ring Sort the sidewall sheets by gage according to the color code and Sidewall Gage Build up table. Stand the sidewall sheets upright. Arrange sidewall sheets in assembly sequential order on concrete near the sidewall construction location. Read and follow the instructions on this page and the next page when building the sidewall. a) TYPICAL INSTRUCTIONS 1 See the Sidewall Gage Build-up (pages 32-33) for sidewall sheet gage and placement! 2 You must use the correct sidewall sheet gages in each grain bin sidewall sheet ring, including in the top ring! 3 All sidewall sheets are color coded for easy construction. When installing, position sidewall sheets so the color codes are on the bottom! Sealer Tape at Sidewall Seams 50 [15.2 m] roll (018008) SEALER TAPE, all vertical seams (dashed line indicates tape on other side of sheet) SIDEWALL SHEET outside bin no sealer tape needed here 4 Always overlap the sidewall sheets in (1) direction (see example b on the next page). 5 Use (1) row of sealer tape at all vertical seams. Use sealer tape horizontally for 10-12 [254 mm - 305 mm] from the end of each sheet (example a). Additional 10 12 strips must be used to fill gaps on heavier gages (10 gage and heavier) and laminated sidewall sheets. Wipe sheets clean before applying the tape. no sealer tape needed here inside bin SEALER TAPE (all vertical seams and 10-12 [254 mm - 305 mm] from the end of each sheet). Additional 10-12 strips must be used to fill larger gaps on heavier gages (10 gage and heavier) and laminated sidewall sheets. 6 Bolt sidewall sheets together with the bolt head and seal washer to the outside of the bin and the nut to the inside. Torque should be applied to the nut rather than the bolt head to avoid damaging the seal washer. At anchor hold down bracket locations, the bolt direction is as indicated on pages 49-55. 7 Stagger the sidewall sheets in halves, or 56 1/4 [1,429 mm], example d on the next page so the vertical sidewall sheet seams will align with the centers in the sidewall sheets above. 8 At horizontal seams, sidewall sheets bolt to the inside of upper sidewall sheets (example a).
