58 WATCHES - GENT Design Henning Koppel PRODUCT STORY Every once in a while, something comes along that does more than catch our attention it changes our perceptions. When Koppel debuted in 1978, it was an absolute original. Unlike luxury watches whose features shout status, Henning Koppel s vision challenged the status quo, carving away extras in pursuit of a watch s most elegant essence. Now, a second revolution is taking place. The Koppel collection has clean lines and number free dial which convey a confidence that is hard to come by. Its case is smooth, and fits snugly against the wrist. Yet it has a weight to it, a gravity that lets you know it is a watch to be contended with, a watch you can wear forever, if you want to. Koppel knows thatfreedom to be one s self is the greatest luxury in the world. 59 DESIGNER Henning Koppel (1918-1981) has been described as a distinguishing exponent of the development of Danish design since the mid-fifties. He was, like Georg Jensen himself, originally educated as a sculptor, but made his mark very strongly as a designer. His work is characteristic for its understated, organic fluid expression. Many of Henning Koppel s iconic works are found in Georg Jensen s Hollowware range with Fish Tray no. 1026 and Pitcher no. 992 recognised as design icons of the last 100 years. AFTER-SALES SERVICE Battery maintenance As a general rule the battery should be changed every 2 years. Every time the battery is changed, the gasket of the case back should be changed and the watch should be tested for the 3 ATM water resistance. This applies especially for very humid and hot climates. Strap maintenance The strap should be replaced (at the customer s expense) when it is worn out. Time to replace it will be easily noticed when the colour fades or the strap gets a dirty appearance. In order to preserve the condition of the strap as long as possible it is recommended to: avoid contact with water and dampness to prevent discoloration and deformation. avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight to prevent the colour from fading. leather is permeable, therefore avoid contact with greasy substances and cosmetic products. If the strap needs cleaning, it should be wiped carefully with a clean cloth moistened with very mild soapy water. The strap should then be left to dry naturally at room temperature before wear. Life expectancy of leather is limited in time due to sweat, wear, and tear, however, a leather strap should last for a period of 6-12 months without alteration of its aesthetic look. The watch is equipped with a size Large strap and the following standard spare straps are available: Model Colour Size Item nbr. Launch year 2008 2008 Black calfskin strap Stainless steel butterfly buckle Dual time, power-reserve indicator, second hand, date at 3 o clock. * Soprod is a Swiss firm that has refined the movement from ETA and added 24 hour display and power-reserve indicator At the time of purchase Automatic watches should be wound manually using the winding crown (15 turns on the crown). For the 24 hour watch, the second time zone (24 hour display) should be set to the customer s requirements using the small pin supplied (see insert folder for instructions). Automatic self-winding The watches are wound automatically by the natural motion of the wearer s arm, making it unnecessary to wind the watch by turning the winding crown. A rotor which turns in response to motion winds the main spring. When fully wound, the watch will keep running for 42 hours. Since it is wound automatically by motion, it is sufficient to wear the watch for 10-12 hours to keep it running for at least 20 hours, without stopping at night. If the watch has not been worn for several days so that it has stopped, it is recommended to wind it manually. For further information, please consult the insert folder accompanying the watch. If the customer can not wind up the watch sufficiently by wearing the watch, we recommend buying a winder where the watch can be place at night. Water resistance 3 ATM, however, it is not recommended that the watch becomes wet as it will wear out the calfskin strap.
