A Tournament Director will be appointed by the District XI Tennis Committee to conduct the seeding meetings and tournament. This person is responsible for all tennis-related activities. ELIGILIBITY FOR SINGLES AND DOUBLES TENNIS: Each school is eligible to enter one (1) singles player and one (1) doubles team in boys and girls. Additional entries will be accepted to the complete the 32- person draw. All additional entries must play the #2 or #3 position on their team. METHOD OF SEEDING: Coaches or a school designee must be present at the seeding meetings and submit up-to-date records if they expect to enter their #2 and/or #3 players/teams in singles and doubles. 1. A #2 entry must have won a minimum of 50% of his/her matches at the #2 position. 2. In order for a #3 entry to be considered for the tournament, the school s #2 entry must have won a minimum of 50% of his/ her matches. All remaining openings in the draw will be filled with the #2 and #3 players based on the coaches vote at the seeding meeting. 3. The Tournament Director may waive items A and B above in order to fill the draw. 4. Additional players will be selected according to the following criteria: Win/Loss record at 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd singles or doubles during present season. Head-to-head matches with other district players Two alternates will be chosen in the case of defaults Once a player or team is in the draw, a coach cannot substitute another player or team. The alternate will take the place of the player/team. A. All contestants must be accompanied by a school district coach or representative. B. If school does not sponsor a team, the applicant must be accompanied by a PIAA Eligibility sheet. C. A tournament seeding meeting will be scheduled prior to the District singles and doubles tennis tournament. D. Players will be seeded and selected for the tournament under the guidelines of the District XI Committee. A coach or a school designee is required to attend the seeding meetings. D. Eight (8) players for singles and doubles will be seeded in each tournament. E. #1 and #2 players or doubles teams from the same school will be placed in different quarters of the draw excluding seeds.) A #3 entry will not play his/her teammate(s) in the first round. FINANCES: Reimbursement and expenses will be paid in accordance with District XI Policy. ASSIGNMENT OF OFFICIALS: Referees will be assigned by the District XI Tennis Chairperson, as deemed necessary. Referees will be paid by the District at the conclusion of the tournament.

SPORTSMANSHIP STATEMENT: PIAA requires all registered sports' officials to enforce the sportsmanship rules for coaches and contestants. Actions meant to demean opposing contestants, teams, spectators and officials are not in the highest ideals of interscholastic education and will not be tolerated. Let all contests reflect mutual respect. Coaches will certify prior to the contest that teams are legally equipped according to the rules of that contest. RULES OF PLAY: 1. All matches will consist of the best of three (3) sets. The third set in the first round will consist of a tenpoint match tie-break. 2. The set tiebreak is a standard 7-point (first to seven by a margin of 2) tiebreak used to decide sets when the set score reaches 6-6. 3. First and second round matches will be No-Ad scoring. Quarterfinal, semifinal and finals will be regular scoring. 4. Coaches may talk with their players during 60-second changeovers and for one (1) minute between the first and second set. However, players may not leave the court. Players may leave the court area for a ten (10) minute break between the second and third sets if one or both players request the break. 5. All players shall wear their school issued team uniform. 6. Both players should report their scores to the Tournament Director immediately following their match. Balls are to be returned to the Tournament Director. 7. Players should check with the Tournament Director for the time of all matches. Any player failing to report a match at the designated time will be subject to the USTA point penalty system. 8. All players are expected to call lines for their matches except for the finals when an umpire is available. A player may request the Tournament Director to designate a person to act as the umpire during a match if problems occur concerning line calls. 9. USTA rules will govern all play. The point penalty system will be in effect for tardiness and unsportsmanlike conduct. The purpose of this system is to deter, not punish, unsportsmanlike conduct, including tardiness. 10. USTA approved tennis balls will be used for all tournament play. A new can will be opened at the beginning of the third set of singles only beginning with the second round. 11. Players will be allowed five (5) minutes for injuries. If the player is unable to resume play after the allotted time, the player shall default the match. 12. The warm-up period shall be five (5) minutes in length, including practice serves. 13. A minimum of thirty (30) minutes shall be allowed between matches unless otherwise determined by the Tournament Director. 14. Parents and/or spectators will not be permitted to advise or instruct contestants during competition. AWARDS: Medals are presented for first, second and third place in each category. (The losers in the semifinal matches will both receive third place medals.)

2017-18 DISTRICT XI GIRLS TEAM TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS DATES, LOCATIONS, TIMES OF GIRLS TEAM TENNIS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP: These three (3) dates are needed to play the tournament: Quarterfinals Monday, October 9, 2107 3:00pm Semifinals Tuesday, October 10, 2017 3:00pm Finals Thursday, October 12, 2017 2:00pm AA 2:00pm AAA ELIGIBLITY FOR TEAM TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS: A team planning on entering Team Districts must have played a minimum of eleven (11) contracted matches. This conforms to PIAA regulations for the PIAA State Tennis Championships. METHOD OF SEEDING: The eight (8) teams qualifying for the tournament will be determined by the PIAA District XI Power Rating System that is detailed on the District XI website. Seeding for the tournament will be based on the final Power Rating System ranking, with priority given to preferential seeding of league/conference champions. The district deadline for matches to count for seeding purpose for the Team Tournament is Thursday, October 5 th. Teams qualifying for the Team Tournament must submit a completed District XI Team Ladder Line-Up to the District XI Tennis Chairman on the night of the Singles Seeding Meeting. The brackets for the tournament will be posted on the District XI website on the Friday prior to the quarterfinal round. All team championship matches are regular scoring in all rounds, which include the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship rounds. SITES: Quarterfinals and semifinals will be played at the site of the higher seeds. The finals will be played at Lehigh University (outside courts). BALLS: The home team is responsible for providing five (5) cans of unopened tennis balls for the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. District XI will provide tennis balls for the finals. AWARDS: 1 trophy and 10 gold medals for the Team Champions, and 10 silver medals for the runners-up.

DIRECTIONS FOR COMPLETING LADDER LINE-UP Each Team shall consist of three (3) singles players and two (2) doubles teams. Players may only play one event (singles or doubles). Each Team, listing players in descending order of ability, shall establish a ladder lineup from 1 to 10. The ladder submitted for the Team shall represent the strongest line-up for that Team. The first three (3) students shall play singles in the order that they are listed on the strength ladder lineup. Beginning with the fourth student listed on the strength ladder line-up, any four of the remaining seven students may comprise the doubles Teams. The doubles Team having the highest level of ability shall occupy the number 1 position and the doubles Team having the second highest level of ability shall occupy the number 2 position. No player shall be eligible for a doubles Team unless they are listed on the Team s strength ladder line-up. Teams shall submit their strength ladder line-ups, which shall specify singles player #1, singles player #2, singles player #3, doubles Team #1, and doubles Team #2, at the beginning of the District Team Tennis Tournament. With the exception of authorized substitutions for illness, injury, or other extenuating circumstances (as determined by the appropriate Tournament Director), a Team s strength ladder line-up may not be changed throughout the respective District and Inter-District Team Tennis Tournaments.
