USTA NorCal Junior Points Per Round Ranking Rules As of May 25, 2017 POINTS PER ROUND (PPR) - GENERAL OVERVIEW USTA NorCal shall rank junior players in the boys' and girls' 18, 16, 14, and 12 divisions. Rankings shall be based on a Points Per Round (PPR) Ranking System. The PPR system is based on the accumulation of points for winning rounds at a player's best six (6) singles and doubles Sectional Ranking in the previous 12-month period. Only points earned in the division will count towards ranking in that division. There is no minimum point requirement to be ranked. Ranking Points earned for winning singles and doubles matches are combined (with greater weight placed on Ranking Points earned singles) for a player s Ranking Point total and players are ordered based on this total. NOTE: From time to time USTA NorCal will publish individual doubles Final Ranking Lists, but these lists are for informational purposes and will only be used to select players into the annual Herb Cup, an unsanctioned doubles invitational for top doubles players in all divisions that does not count for NorCal ranking. 1. Ranking Eligibility. Only those players who are residents of Northern California are eligible to receive rankings. 2. Divisions Ranked. USTA NorCal shall publish rankings in the boys and girls 18, 16, 14, and 12 divisions. 3. Sectional Ranking. Any tournament that counted for Sectional ranking in the previous years shall remain on a player s record and shall be considered Sectional Ranking so long as it took place during the 12-month preceding period. Bonus Points are only earned when there is an on-court win and are not awarded for withdrawals or walkovers, or defaults that happen before the first point of a match. Bonus Points are attached to the tournament at which they are earned. If a tournament is not among a player s best six (6) tournaments, neither the points per round nor the bonus points are added to a player s singles ranking point total. 5. Violation of Concurrent Tournament Rule. Players who violate the Concurrent Tournament Rule shall forfeit all ranking points earned at the concurrent tournaments. 6. Defaults Under the Point Penalty System. A player who is defaulted from a tournament for code violations under the Point Penalty System or misconduct forfeits any points accumulated during the tournament. 7. Calculating Rankings. Each player s combined ranking will be based on the accumulation of points for winning rounds at the player s six best singles and six best doubles Sectional Ranking in the age division and any older age division during the previous 12-month period. In order for points from an older age division to count in one or more younger divisions, a player must have earned at least one ranking point in the younger age division. The rankings shall be calculated as follows: 100% of the Ranking Points earned at 6 best singles Sectional Ranking + 20% of the Ranking Points earned at 6 best doubles Sectional Ranking = Total Ranking Points 8.
