From the President The Rep Club was proud to play host to two different local groups in October. On Thursday 26th the Goldfields Brass Band played a concert on the stage for the entertainment of a group from John Howie Music Tours, which organises tours in Australia and overseas that include performances by local musicians. This was the first time one of their tours has visited the Goldfields, but judging by their enthusiasm at the concert it will not be the last. Also present in the audience were several invited guests, including city councillor Glenn Wilson (representing Mayor John Bowler, who is a patron of the brass band), and members of the general public. The second group were members of the Goldfields Historical Society who came to listen to a presentation given by myself on the performing arts during the gold rush of the 1890s. I was ably assisted in this endeavour by Lewis Johnson who manned the projector, and my fellow thespians, Paul Andinach, Scott Jones, Ken Chinnery, and Stan Latchford who lent their voices to those of the prospectors, miners, and newspaper reporters of the period. In 2018 the club will commence fundraising for our new building so raising our profile in the wider community will help in this endeavour. Members too can assist in this role by extolling the benefits socially and culturally of the performing arts and the Goldfields Repertory Club in particular. Norma Latchford President Season 2018 The first production meeting for Can-Can was held last month. The musicians and technical team are raring to go. All we need now are some actors, singers and dancers. There is a role for all, young and old, so don t be put off thinking you have to kick as high as your nose. Auditions will take place in February 2018 with performances in June.
