Next 6th of March we will have the honour to count on Gitte Wolput sensei to lead us a bit further into the deep side of the Randori pool. As always this seminar is organised by the Study Group and as such it is an apolitical event: Everyone is welcome. The seminar will take place in Almussafes, Valencia, Spain For more details please join the event on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/events/751089051639739

Shishihon no kuzushi (1-2) (thinking of the "bounce") Tori must have an arm that is not tensed but creates a connection with Uke, if Uke releases the arm it drops if Uke tries to go in the Arm through its structure (no biceps) does not allow him to enter. Randori position: One arm "pulling" one arm "Shotei Awase" (Aigamae ate kuzushi) having Uke's both legs blocked due to the effect of the Kuzushi. Uke is stretched onto their toes. History regarding the 15-hon (by Adrian) regarding how the above described scenario was a basic position for Senta Yamada in many of techniques in the old 15 upon Uke entering with a Shomen ate to the face. 4 Kote Gaeshi and 4 Kote Hineri of the 15-hon. STUDY GROUP TOMIKI AIKIDO - Friday 6 th March 2015 This evening s session was taken by Gitte Wolput and we were joined by Marjorie Barboza from France. After a moderately energetic warm-up, based around Unsoku, Gitte outlined the session content for the weekend. A main objective being to prepare students for the forthcoming 11 th TAIN International Festival 2015 Aikido World Championships to be held in Switzerland on the 22 nd to 26 th October. The sessions would cover topics from an analytical perspective and also relating to the current Competition Rules and with practical bias to encourage student feedback. Tsuki-ari Tai Sabaki Kuzushi Waza What is a valid Tsuki-ari? To stamp or not to stamp? Newton s 3 rd Law of Motion (Action and Reaction are equal and opposite) What happens with your shoulder? Do you automatically move back to create more acceleration? Is that useful? Are you faster with a relaxed shoulder or with a stiff shoulder? What happens with your arm? Do you move it in a straight line? or Do you curve it Do you influence or use the Reaction Time of your opponent?

Reaction time is slower: - During a saccade o During saccadic eye movement and blinks - When your opponent inhales. - When your opponent is distracted. - When your opponent is fatigued or emotionally upset. How do you improve your reaction time? Practice. Is it useful to strike with your non-dominant hand if you didn t already practice this? How to strike if your opponent is standing close? What if your opponent sticks to you? Is it useful to practice with your non-dominant hand? How do you create Kuzushi o Through your own initiative o Taking advantage of your partners initiative o Inducing your partner to take action o Feinting o Combinations - Shomen ate - Gyakugamae ate - Wakigatame - Udegaeshi - Maeotoshi - Sumiotoshi MORE STUDY GROUP TOMIKI AIKIDO SESSIONS... Saturday and Sunday

STUDY GROUP TOMIKI AIKIDO - Saturday 7th March 2015 Today we had two sessions, in the morning we started with a vigorous warm up and then we recapped the previous sessions. Afterwards we considered: Tai Sabaki What is the best distance? Issoku ittō-no-maai (Itto-ma): make sure they always have to take a step. How do you stand? Right Posture, Left Posture or Neutral Posture How do you move? limiting your opponents possibilities to focus (a camera was used to illustrate this point) Keep your focus forward. Watch out, because F = F1 + F2... Switch your weight: save 20 cm without moving your feet Where do you look? - Do you look to the eyes, chest, shoulder, Tanto...? Peripheral vision

Foveal vision provides both detail and colour, although for a very small, 2-4 degrees, area of the visual field. The Foveal pit in the retina at the back of the eye uses about 50-60% of optic nerve fibres - hence the detail... In contrast, peripheral vision accounts for the rest of the visual field with the remaining 40% of the optic nerve fibres -hence the lack of detail. The theory is that peripheral vision will detect motion quicker than Foveal vision - hence it's use for toshu side Where do you look after the tai sabaki? How to use your arms? Redirecting the force Hip and arm twisting to generate more power to counteract the attack Where do you touch? Wrist (tekubi-waza) Elbow (hiji-waza) Body (atemi-waza) What about posture? How wide do you put your feet? Wider = more stable, but less agility Standing straight to be faster and stable (clean rotation around the axis)? Waza After kuzushi Tsukuri and Kake What are the ingredients of your technique? Which principles do you use? Translational acceleration Rotational acceleration Levers Gravity Friction? Impact pressure? Attack the lightest part? Uchi-komi! Why Drill? It reinforces the four stages of learning

STUDY GROUP TOMIKI AIKIDO - Sunday 8th March 2015

Today's two sessions, the most exhausting of all, we started with a vigorous warm up, and then we recapped the salient points from the previous two days. The PowerPoint presentation made this easier not to overlook the many, many points which Gitte brought to this seminar. Most certainly some of the topics covered stimulated the thought processes and largely these are unexpected in a seminar aimed at Aikidoka. But even with this very cerebral approach we were all worked to the point of physical emptiness; nice! :-) Using input from the previous session we looked at the idea of combination techniques. Having gone through the processes of Avoidance and Hikitatigeiko, this soon evolved into what Gitte referred to as "Creative Randori", a term borrowed from her brother Tim Wolput. What a fantastic weekend. Thank you to Gitte; Thank you to Michael; Thank you to Vicente; Thank you to Anne and everyone else for making it a success. I am completely drained but in a nice way. I am looking forward to our next sessions. See you Gitte in Antwerp in two weeks. See you Marjorie in France very soon.
