Technology nology y The Mac Marine History Mac Boats first started business in Tauranga New Zealand in 1986 originally designed by Gary MacDougall. This is how the name Mac originated. The first boat was a polyethylene 2.1 metre (8ft) dinghy. This dinghy was a great success with national sales and exports to Japan, Canada, U.S.A. and Australia. Due to the success a 3.4 metre boat was introduced into the range. Both of these boats are still being sold some 20 years later. In 1988, Plasma Boat Corporation Ltd developed the first pontoon Mac Boat at 5.7 metres (18ft). The design of the Mac 5.7 is the basis of the current design that is being used by Mac Boats today. The Mac 5.7 is also very successful with sales being made into both commercial and recreational markets. Sales to the King of Tonga, King Taufa ahau Tupou V1, Pearl Divers in Tahiti, commercial diving schools and commercial dive boats in Rarotonga are some of the sales internationally achieved during this period. These boats are still in commercial operation today! The first boats to Australia and the U.S.A. were actually air freighted! In the mid 1990 s Gary MacDougall expanded the operation to create Allied Plastics International located in Durham North Carolina U.S.A. 2

Simplicity i Simplicity New Zealand New Zealand is an ideal testing ground for boat development, with access to some of the most advanced Marine Architects, Engineers and material manufacturers who have acquired a great amount of knowledge over time from events like the America s Cup campaigns. We at Mac Boats continue to evolve new design concepts with knowledge gained from these skilled people. The Southern Ocean which we are surrounded by in New Zealand provides some of the best testing waters. With our exposed coastline and some of the roughest waters globally, they test our theory of designs under rough natural conditions. The unique design where the inner and outer hull is bonded together in one piece, or kissed off, continues along each beam from bow to stern. This provides great strength and stiffness in the hull. This same process and technology was exported to the USA in the early 1990 s and is now being used by one of the largest trailer boat manufacturers in the world today. 3

Toughness Presenting boats that put the fun back into boating Being light in weight, Mac Boats are easy to launch and need less horsepower than a comparable-sized fibreglass boat, so you ll save initial cost as well as fuel costs. Mac Boats will provide years of trouble-free boating with strength up to five times that of fibreglass, positive-buoyant and won t rust or corrode. Polyethylene is a new generation material for safe boating. Mac Boats are resilient enough to take bumps and knocks from novice boaters, or from those more seasoned players who are hard on their equipment. They re also built to level flotation, and all boats are foam filled with polyurethane to provide this standard safety feature, which is a mandatory requirement for marine Commercial Survey. This benefits commercial or professional operators who use their boats as a business tool and who can have peace of mind to know that this requirement is standard in every hull produced today. Low maintenance Mac Boats are manufactured from marine grade polyethylene. They are virtually indestructible and are up to five times stronger than fibreglass, with no corrosion, osmosis or gel coat to crack or fade. Soft Riding Mac Boats are positive-bouyant and lighter than comparable fibreglass boats so the ride is noticeably softer. 4

WATER TEST Polyethylene is a positive-buoyant material, unlike aluminium and fibreglass which means it floats on water. FOAM IN MAC BOATS At Mac Boats we take safety very seriously. All Mac Boats are manufactured with Endurathane 3245-100R, a closed-cell polyurethane foam. This feature provides level flotation even when you forget to put the bung in or should a serious accident occur. Test CROSS SECTION OF MAC BOAT Hull. Our Mac Boats are a double walled one - piece hull. The inner and outer skin are joined or kissed off as one from the bow to the stern. This provides stiffness and strength. Internal cavities are polyurethane foamed for additional flotation and quiet riding. Coloured throughout, the thickness of the skin provides lasting quality to the hull. The inner and outer skin are bonded together (Kissed off ) during the manufacture of the hull. This provides stiffness and strength to the hull. 5
