Thank you to Manly, Orewa, Waimauku, Takapuna, Sunnybrae & Hobsonville Bowling Clubs for hosting this event and to the markers & volunteers, without your support we could not hold these events. Tony Rickerby President IVAN KOSTANICH MEMORIAL OPEN MEN S PREMIER SINGLES Saturday 23 rd & Sunday 24 th SEPTEMBER 2017 Played under World Bowls Laws of the Sport & Bowls New Zealand Domestic Regulations Conditions of Play 1. Singles: played in sections of four - 4 Bowls per player 2. Official Starting Time 8.30am 3. Winners of Sections 1 to 6 have a bye to Day 2. Winners of sections 7 to 26 play a 4 th Game on Day 1. 4. Prior to the start of the first game only each player will be allowed two trial ends i.e. one each way. These must be completed before the official start time. 5. Each match will consist of two sets; each set played over 9 ends. a. The winner of each set will be the player with the highest number of shots at the completion of the 9 th end. In the knockout phase a set will be decided if at any point it becomes impossible for the player to draw or win the set given the number of ends remaining. In Sectional play all nine ends of a set must be completed. b. If the shots are tied after the ninth end of a set, the set is drawn. 6. Tie-breaker a. If the Match is tied after the two sets have been completed (each player having won one set, or both sets have been drawn), a three-end tie-breaker shall be played to decide the winner. b. All shots on an end in the tie-breaker will be counted. c. There should be no further play in the tie-breaker if, at any point, it becomes impossible for one player to draw or win the tie-breaker given the number of ends left. d. If the third end of a tie-breaker has been completed and the scores are still level the players will play a fourth tie-breaker end to decide the winner. e. If the fourth end of a tie-breaker is a tied end, the players will play more tie-breaker ends until a winner is found. 7. Scoring a. Three match points will be awarded for a match win and nil for a match loss. b. One set point will be awarded for each set won. A half set point will be awarded for each set drawn. No set points are awarded for any set lost. (The Tie-breaker is not a set)
c. Section winners will be decided as follows: i. Highest number of Match points scored. ii. If Match points are equal, the player with the highest number of sets won. iii. If Match points and sets won are equal, the player with the highest net total of set points over all Matches in the section. iv. If Match points, sets won and net totals of set points are equal, the player with the highest net total of shots over all the matches in the section (not including tiebreaker ends). v. If game points, sets won, net totals of set points, and net totals of shots are equal, the player with lowest `total shots against shall be the winner. 8. Starting Play First Set The winner of the toss prior to the start of the match shall have the option to either take the mat and have the jack and first bowl or allow the opponent to have the mat, jack and first bowl. Second Set The winner of the first set shall have the mat, jack and first bowl. Should the first set be drawn, the winner of the last scoring end in that set shall take the mat and have the jack and first bowl. Match Tie Breaker First, Fourth and any further ends The players shall toss again and the winner of the toss shall have the option to either take the mat and have the jack and the first bowl or allow the opponent to have the mat, jack and first bowl. In all ends subsequent, the winner of the preceding scoring end shall take the mat and have the jack and the first bowl.. 9. Re-spotting the Jack - There will be no DEAD ENDS Should the jack be hit off the rink it will be replaced at one of three predefined points on the rink as follows: a. If the jack passes over the face of the bank, it should be placed on a spot 2 metres from the ditch on the centre line. b. If the jack passes outside the side boundary on the right of the rink, it should be placed at a spot 2 metres from the ditch and 1.5 metres to the right of the centre line. c. If the jack passes outside the side boundary on the left of the rink, it should be placed at a spot 2 metres from the ditch and 1.5 metres to the left of the centre line. d. If any of the 3 spots are partly or completely covered by a previously played bowl, the jack will be placed as close as possible, in front of, but not touching that particular bowl. e. A rebounding jack within the confines of the rink, but to less than the minimum distance of 20 metres, will be re-spotted at the appropriate re-spot as described above. 10. Restricting Movement during play: In all games, players will only be allowed to walk up to the head after delivery of their third and fourth bowls. Note: Non Section Qualifiers are requested to mark the 4 th game on Day 1 Post Section Day 2 - Venue: Manly Bowling Club - Start Time: 8.30am Conditions: As per day 1 - One life System. Note: Losers on Day 2 are required to mark the next game.
11. Weather: During qualifying play, if weather conditions affect play, one set of nine (9) ends will constitute a game and if the set is drawn a single extra end will be played the players toss and the winner may take or give the jack to the opponent. If weather forces abandonment of play, 2 completed games will constitute completion of section play, and a result found from the 2 completed games. Post section play on Days 1 and 2 can be decided on the same shortened basis. If play is abandoned on Day 2, the event will be cancelled and prize money divided among the players then remaining in the event. 12.
