OFFICIAL PLAYOFF SOFTBALL Rawlings graciously entered into an agreement with the San Diego Section. Rawlings (Yellow with Red Seams) will be providing all the section playoff softballs and will be the official softball for the 2016 San Diego Section CIF Softball Playoffs. 2. QUALIFYING All schools that field varsity teams will be placed into Divisions Open and I - V based upon a five year ranking. Divisions I thru IV will qualify 12 playoff teams. Division V and the Open Division will qualify 8 playoff teams. League Champions (not Co-Champions or Tri- Champions in these cases, leagues shall designate which team shall have automatic entry) receive automatic entry. If a league champion is not seeded into the playoffs, the champion will host a play-in game versus the lowest seeded team in that division. If more than one league champion is not seeded, the highest ranking league champion will play the lowest seeded team, the 2nd highest ranked league champion will play the 2nd lowest seeded team, etc. The play-in game will be held prior to the first round game in that sport. League champions will host play-in games. League champions will host 1st round games unless playing a higher seeded league champion or playing a team seeded #1-#4 or league champion has hosted a play-in game. This accommodation does not apply to playoffs that begin with the quarterfinal round If a play- in game is needed it will be played on Monday May 16, 2016. The Pairings Committee Meeting will take place on May 14, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. at the San Dieguito Academy, Conference Room. Playoff entry information must be submitted via CIFSDS Home by Friday, May 13, 2016, no later than 10:00 p.m. If your team is an automatic qualifier or if you anticipate being selected at-large, you must complete and submit in its entirety your teams schedule, scores and results via the CIFSDS home site. Pairings will be posted on the CIFSDS Website May 14, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the San Dieguito Academy, Conference Room. Coaches may pick up brackets, but are not required to come to the section office. 1

3. DATES, SITES, TIMES, AND HOME TEAMS Home site determination shall be made by the school with the higher seed or designated home team. The seeded teams are determined by the Commissioner s office with input from the Softball Seeding Committee. The home school s field may be the home site. Starting time for the play-in contests shall be 3:30 p.m., unless home team has a lighted facility and wishes to conduct an evening contest. Any deviations from designated starting time must be approved in advance by the CIF-San Diego Section Office and mutual consent of your opponent and officials association assigner. PLAYOFF GAME DAY BATTING PRACTICE There are no batting restrictions for playoffs. 5. UMPIRES All game umpires will be assigned by either Bruce Helsing 619-922-7723 or schsa@cox.net; Carl Goff (MOA) 760-727- 2477 or crgdg139@cox.net; Mike Anchondo (Assigner IVOA-Softball) 760-455-8785 or anchondo@roadrunner.com. In any playoff contest, if one of the teams is from the North County, one or more of the officials may be secured from the Margarita Officials Association. If both teams are from the North County, all officials may be secured from the Margarita Officials Association. All umpires for Round-one through Round-Three contests must be paid by the home school. Admission will be charged for semifinal and championship contests. Coaches of teams entered in playoffs may submit a list of 6-10 preferred officials by mail, email, telephone, or fax to the assignment secretaries, by 12 noon, Saturday, May 14, 2016 (See Preferred List of Playoff Officials, attached to the coach s copy of this bulletin.) 2016 SOFTBALL UMPIRES PLAYOFF FEES Preliminary Rounds 2 @ $66.00 Championships 3 @ $75.00 2

6. AWARDS Awards to be presented immediately following each Championship game: Divisional Championship team trophy - 20 individual Championship patches. Divisional Runner-up team trophy - 20 individual Runner-up patches 7. SEMI-FINALS AND FINALS Semi-Finals and Finals- CIF-San Diego Section office will host semi/finals. Ten Complimentary tickets will be available to each participating school and may be obtained from the CIF-San Diego Section Office. There are only two playoff ticket ranges: Adult Defined as anyone over 18 year old and Student/Senior: Student defined as anyone age 5 through age 18; Senior defined as anyone age 60 or over. Adults Students/Seniors *Semifinals $10 $6 *Finals $11 $7 8. PLAYOFF PARTICIPATIONPATCHES Playoff participation patches can be purchased for $11.00 each. School personnel orders can be placed on the CIFSDSHOME website and accessing the Additional Forms link. Non personnel orders may be placed on www.cifsds.org, Patch Orders. 9. RUNNER-UP PATCHES Championship/runner-up patches are special order items. School personnel orders can be placed on the CIFSDSHOME website and accessing the Additional Forms link. The cost is $11.00 each. Special order items may take up to (3) three weeks to arrive. Non-school personnel can place an order on: www.cifsds.org, Patch Orders. 10. PASSES Passes that will be permitted: CIFSDS Courtesy Cards, CIFSDS Media Passes, CIF State Courtesy Card, CIF and CIFSDS Gold Life Passes. (Metal- engraved with recipient s name). Passes that will not be permitted: CIFSDS Scouting Passes, league passes, district passes, faculty passes, official s passes, college or university passes. 11. CIFSDS RECORD BOOK UPDATE CIF Record Book Information may be updated by school personnel through the CIFSDS Home Site under New CIFSDS Records tab. CHEERLEADERS A maximum of 25 uniformed varsity cheerleaders representing each of the two competing schools will be admitted free of charge to all CIFSDS playoff contests. 13. SPIRIT SIGNS All signs, posters, banners, etc., by each competing school are to be utilized for the purpose of promoting its own team rather than downgrading its opponent. Therefore, no signs, banners, etc., will be permitted that refer to an opponent except in a positive manner. 14. NOISEMAKERS No noisemakers (cowbells, air horns, blocks, whistles thunder sticks, drums without music, etc.) of any kind will be permitted at the site of any contest. Megaphones shall be used only by uniformed cheerleaders for the purpose of directing or controlling their own rooting sections. 15. CLEAN UP Each team shall be responsible for the cleanup of its own bench area immediately following the contest. 3

16. NON-FOOD CONCESSION The 2016 Non-Food Concession (T-shirts, sweatshirts, visors, etc.) has been awarded to The Kukulski Brothers. If you have any special requests, contact Dave Kukulski at 480-921-1975. Be sure to let your parents and athletes know that personalized souvenir items are available before, during, and after the contest for all participating teams. 17. PROGRAM Section Sports has been awarded the 2016 championship program concession. It is mandatory that you submit a complete roster and a team photo. 18. OFFICIAL CIF-SAN DIEGO SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS Official CIF-San Diego Section Championship rings are now available from Jostens. Rings are available for participants, finalists, and champions.
