There will be all sorts of on-shore activities before and after the races, including food, beer and wine stands, carnival and much more. For more information go to: http://www.7thdistrictoptimist.org/blessing.html Hotel rooms are available at the new Executive Inn and Suites in Leonardtown 301-475-3000. Slips are also available for regatta participants for no charge at Fitzies Irish Pub 301-475-1913. Contact us for additional information on slip availability at other nearby marinas. Rules: This regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2013-2016. There will be two sets of races going on simultaneously. The High School small boats regatta will be held just off the pier at Colton s Pt. The big boat regatta will be held in the area near Heron Island Bar with the Committee Boat near the entrance to St. Clements Bay. There will be two alternate courses, see charts below. Eligibility: The regatta is open to all mono-hull sailboats 20' and longer. Races will be scored for both Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker. A valid PHRF rating is required for scoring the race. Entrants without a PHRF may sail, but will not be scored. Schedule of events: Happy Hour and skippers meeting at Fitzie s Irish Pub & Marina starting on Friday night at 1800 hours, October 4th with a reception and cash bar. The first race will start at 13:00 near Long Pt. We will conduct as many races as possible by 17:00. Following Saturday s races there will be food and drinks for sale onshore, with awards presented after the races are scored. There will be fireworks at St. Clements Island for those wishing to anchor
out for the evening. Additional festivities will be held on Sunday with a shuttle both days to and from Colton Pt. and St. Clements Island. A water taxi will take sailors ashore and back on Saturday afternoon. Sailing: The RC will use vhf channel 69 to announce the start sequence. There will be 5min, 4min, 1min and Start horns. No flags. There will be as many races as we can complete between 1pm and 5pm. Please be at the start area by 12:45 to check in with the committee boat. The course is attached. After the race the boats can anchor off the Colton Pt. pier or raft up at the end of the pier. There we will knock back a few while the races are scored. Awards ceremony will follow. Entrance Fee: There will be a $25 entrance fee. All proceeds from this race benefit the St Mary s Ryken and Leonardtown High School Sailing Teams. The high schools will hold a simultaneous regatta near the wharf. Click here to pay with PayPal. Safety: Sailors should be aware that the area around St. Clements Island has many marked and unmarked shoals. The course will be between two of these shoals to give the spectators onshore a good view. Heron Island Bar is marked by a black pole and Red can #4 near the course. This is a sand bar and you will go hard aground if not careful. There is another unmarked mud shoal between the course and shore. There is deep water between the start line and windward mark, but be careful when tacking not to stray too far off course. Please carefully review the attached chart. High Tide will be at 14:40pm and we have about a 2 foot tidal range. Chart is MLW. Risk: All competitors are ultimately responsible for the inherent risks associated with sailboat racing. It is the competitor s decision to enter the regatta and to start or continue any race. Each competitor will accept full responsibility for all his/her actions during any activity related to the event. This includes onshore activities before, during, and after the regatta. Please review your charts prior to the race as the course is at the edge of a large submerged sandbar (Heron Island Bar). There is plenty of depth on the course, but straying too far east or west could result in going aground. Mail your entry form and check to: Shawn Moore P.O.
