Box 37724 Shreveport, LA 71133 F RO M TH E PRESIDENT S DESK May was pretty busy with something going on each weekend in several cities around the Ark La Tex. I was able to get to the Gusher Days Car Show on the third Saturday of the month. We started out meeting at Whataburger with 4 Mustangs and a lone Corvette that decided to cruise up with us. Once we got there we met up with Charlie Patrick from Vivian, and David Barnhill out of Keithville for a total of 6 cars from our Club. There were about 25 cars total in the show, and I managed to capture the best Mustang award. We couldn t ask for better weather with sunny skies, a nice breeze and some pretty good music coming from a live band nearby. Thanks to all that came out and participated in this show. Even Mayor Dickey came by to say thanks for coming. The following Friday was track night. I wasn t going to miss this for anything, and even took Friday off from work to be sure I could get to Whataburger on time. Unfortunately, a lot of folks decided to leave town for the three day weekend, so only 6 of us met up at Whataburger to cruise out to the track. Once we got there, we met up with Dale from the Mopar Club who was running his tubbed out Sundance, and also ran into the Brady Clan supporting Mark Brady who decided to run his 68 fastback down the track. Some of the other members decided to run also, including Ernie Lane with his -er Sabrina s Saleen, and Charles Hawes in his 67 convertible. There were a few other Mustangs hanging out with us, who also ran their cars, so we had some nice competition runs going on within the mustang group. Even though a lot of people were out of town, and the track was not very busy, there were still some incredibly fast cars that did not disappoint. Two of those cars which were probably in the top 5 fastest cars of the evening had to be a black SN95 turbocharged Cobra and a red Fox body LX hatchback that was running nitrous. It was nice to see Mustangs still being used as race cars, specifically the Fox body, the last of which turned 20 this year. Later that evening, Chris Prest and TJ Fontana came out to hang out and visit for a total of 9 Club cars. We will definitely have to set up another outing to the track on a non-holiday weekend so we can get some more participation from the Club and the racers out at the track. Who knows, maybe the Mopar Club will wake up and come out to defend their brand on the track. See y all out there! Thomas Monahan President, RRCMC

Page 2 The Pony Express S H OW NEWS As the Club gears up for our annual Show, our June project is door prizes. Now is the time to start collecting door prizes. As car show veterans, you know a quality door prize can really enhance the car show experience for all participants. Since several members have asked, let me clarify. A door prize can be anything. It does not have to be car related, but it definitely helps. A good gauge of a great door prize is something you would like to have. PLEASE do not donate any item you would not like to receive yourself. I hesitate to put a dollar amount on items as you can get new things at garage sales, swap meets, Woot!, ebay, and etc inexpensively. You can also ask local businesses to donate items or services. Car washes, oil changes, alignments, and restaurant gift certificates are highly encouraged! If you need a beg letter in order for a local business to donate, please email me at rrcmc.showdirector@yahoo.com to request a letter. Door prize donations may be given to any Board member at any meeting. Don t forget, you will also receive points for our annual awards! Thank you in advance for your generous donations towards making our 2013 Show a success! Erin Frostic, Show Director P L E A S E S U P P O R T OUR C L U B S P O N S O R S

The Pony Express Page 3 M CA NEWS Hope everyone is enjoying the show season that has started. So far we've had lots to do and I hope everyone has had the opportunity to participate in some of the activities that have been scheduled. I know everyone is still wondering about the Mustang s 50th birthday celebration. Well, there is some news. There's now a website to go to, but about the only thing that you can do is make your hotel reservations. If you are planning to stay at the host hotel, now is the time to do so. The rooms will be filling up soon. Remember you can always cancel if you can't make it. Here's the website: www.mustang50thbirthdaycelebration.com. What will come up is a generic site that you'll pick which location that you'll be attending. Click on the hotel position and follow the instructions for making your reservation. There's also a position for the show registration. Right now it's still not up. Just keep checking the site periodically and if anyone sees it before I do, let everyone know. The current plan is to leave here on Tuesday April 15, 2014. We would like to try to make it to Atlanta on that first day where we can meet up with the Mustangs Across America group and go in to Charlotte with them on Wednesday. I would like to also ask that everyone who might be thinking of going to let me know so I can start a list. I urge everyone to think seriously about this trip. This will be the best one ever since it's for the 50th birthday of the Mustang. This is the time of year when there's graduations to go to for our loved ones. I just recently returned from the Memphis area where our grandson Danny (we now call him Daniel) graduated from high school. A lot of you will remember him from our car shows. He used to come help us out at the registration table and was also a runner for the judging sheets. In three weeks he will be starting a new journey in life for he'll be leaving for Marine boot camp. I'll be heading for the quarterly board meeting in July. If you have anything you wish for me to bring up, please let me know. See you on the road. Donna MCA National Director www.mustang.org
