The Life of The School Safety Club STOPKA 2014-2015

LET S PROTECT OUR LIVES For many years our school has given priority to safety issues. That is why the School Safety Club promotes every idea that may improve safety. We have included parents in the campaign for safety. During parents evening teachers drew parents attention to the obligation of wearing fluorescent elements by childern under the age of 15. We handed out leaflets entitled Let s Protect Our Lives.

SAFE ROAD ARTISTIC CONTESTS Every year we organize school, district and provincial elimination rounds of Artistic Contests. The aim of the contests is to revise the knowledge of road safety rules.

THE TREE HOLIDAY. The School Safety Club has its own tree. It is a spruce and its name is BŁYSTEK. We propagate the idea of putting fluorescent elements onto trees which may prevent road accidents and the distruction of trees.

PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS We have been participating in the projects and programs connected with safety: Safety for Me, You, Us Fluorescent School Safety and Mobility for All Safe Winnie the Pooh Club School Promoting Safety

ROAD SAFETY KNOWLEDGE We organize various road safety knowlegde contests and tournaments. We propagate road manners and road safety regulations. TOURNAMENTS

I AM VISIBLE I AM SAFE To promote safety rules we marched the streets of Dąbrowa Tarnowska under the watchful eye of police officers.

HAVING FUN SAFELY There are a few celebrations in the school calendar: Fluorescent Disco Safe Winter Break Fluorescent Santa

AN APPLE OR A LEMON We drew drivers attention to: reducing the speed in a built up area (especially in the vicinity of schools) the technical conditions of vehicles the importance of wearing seat belts. We rewarded drivers with apples and punished them with lemons.

FLUORESCENT ELEMENTS We carried out a campaign called Fluorescent Bike Safe Cyclist because we know that fluorescent elements such as bands make cyclists and their bikes more visible especially when it is dark outside. We know that cycling is not only a great pleasure and fun but also it is a huge responsibility. Special fluorescent sticks placed on our bikes will make us more visible and we will be safer.

SAFE HOUSE, SCHOOL AND ROAD We invited many experts in safety issues.

SAFETY ABOVE ALL We took the initiative to write a declaration which aim was to collect as many signatures as possible and persuade highranking officials to take active action for the road safety.

We organize classes in first aid. We start from the youngest pupils because we believe that regardless of one s age everybody can learn how to help. I CAN RESCUE

WE HAVE A BICYCLE RACK We wrote a letter to the headmistress, Mrs Anna Fido, concering the purchase of a bicycle rack. We also submitted a petition to the mayor of Dąbrowa Tarnowska, Mr Stanisław Początek, concerning a bicycle rack, school car park and the wrong road signs next to our school.

SAFE PEDESTRIAN CROSSING CAMPAIGN We begin our activity every first day of a new school year when we organize an action called Safe Pedestrian Crossing. Club members together with their teacher put fluorescent waistcoats on and surrounded pedestrian crossings to guarantee safety to their friends, parents and teachers going from church to school. Our presence drew drivers attention and they drove much more carefully.

WE ARE FLUORESCENT BECAUSE WE We prepared a stall with fluorescent materials for parents. We also conducted for them a campaign We Are Fluorescent Because We Want To Live to promote road safety rules. WANT TO LIVE

A VISIT TO THE KINDERGARTEN The School Safety Club takes part in an all-poland program called Friend, Read to Me organized by the Center for Citizenship Education. Club members visited kindergartens and after-school clubs in Dąbrowa Tarnowska and they read to children about safety and played with the youngest.

THE FLUORESCENT DAY We organized the Fluorescent Day Put Your Fluorescent Waistcoat On. That day all pupils came to school and went home wearing reflective clothing. We wanted to show that being fluorescent is very easy and effortless but extremely important for our safety.

AN EXEMPLARY PEDESTRIAN Every year our first-graders take An Exemplary Pedestrian Exam organized by the School Safety Club Stopka and an old and wise friend, an experienced walker - Koziołek Matołek (a Polish fairy tale character).

FLUORESCENT MARCH We organized a lesson about road safety in the form of a happening. It was an effective way of drawing people s attention to this issue.

SCHOOL SAFETY CLUB IN WARSAW Our actions were rewared. We qualified for the finals of an all- Poland contest entitled Your Ideas Your Initiative. While being in Warsaw we visited the Copernicus Science Centre.

We want our actions to reduce the number of road accident victims in our region. THANK YOU FOR THE ATTENTION Prepared by the School Safety Club Stopka
