Bluenose Yacht Charter suggested destinations and itineraries Welcome to some of the most beautiful cruising grounds in the world. Historic, picturesque, easy sailing, reliable winds, excellent weather. DESTINATIONS Begin your charter at Harbor Light Marina (HLM) and Country Club, Warwick, RI and eight miles from PVD airport. Upon arrival enjoy a round of golf or lounge around the poolside overlooking the harbor. BRISTOL, RI. A short sail to the northeast from HLM and visit the Herrschoff Museum, walk around the beautiful village of Bristol, known for hundreds of years as one of the best ship building area in the world. Very well protected harbor with moorings and slips available. Excellent restaurants. Wickford, RI six miles to the south in Narragansett bay towards open ocean. Wickford is home to a lovely village with boutiques and art galleries. Rent kayaks and meander up one of the local scenic estuaries and rivers.
Newport, RI nine miles to the south in Narragansett bay towards open ocean. A destination resort town, known as the Sailing Capital of the USA. Tour the mansions from Gatsby era, visit the Museum of Yachting at historic Fort Adams, rent bicycles and ride around ocean drive, walk through Trinity Church and Touro Synagogue, visit Newport Shipyard and drool over some of the mega yachts; needless to say, Newport, RI has more than a day s worth of activities. Block Island, RI twenty two miles from Newport to the southwest. If winds are not from the southwest this is a beautiful island less commercialized than Nantucket and worth visiting for the beaches, quaint town, and beautiful harbor. Moorings are on first come first served basis and can be booked on weekends. Cuttyhunk, MA from outside of Newport harbor head nearly due east for twenty miles and visit another beautiful island a bit more remote and undeveloped than Block Island but perhaps prettier yet smaller. Hike to the top of the island for expansive views of Cape Cod and islands, really magnificent. Other hikes around the island for the more adventuresome or enjoy several small but secluded beaches. Limited restaurants ashore and this is a dry island; as in no alcohol served ashore.
Hadley s Harbor from Cuttyhunk a short sail of about seven miles towards and immediately opposite Wood s Hole. The island is private and owned by the Forbes Family for hundreds of years, but the scenery inside the harbor is fantastic and quiet. Menemsha, MA again from outside of Newport harbor head south east for about 27 miles to the western tip of Martha s Vineyard. There are moorings outside and not that well protected or call harbor master to see if you can squeeze inside the harbor. Also a dry township but several restaurants and art galleries that are worth visiting. Tarpaulin Cove on the south side and about six miles from Cuttyhunk further to the east. This is one of our favorites for scenery, a horse shoe beach, and remote isolation apart from the other cruising boats anchored along the shore-side. No facilities and no moorings, but idyllic.
Lake Tashmoo, Martha s Vineyard is about six miles from Tarpaulin Cove to the south east. A very narrow cut to gain access to one of the most beautiful protected salt water lakes. Best to schedule your entry at high tide where eight feet of water is possible. Inside the lake plenty of space for anchoring, a dingy dock, and short walk to Vineyard Haven. Vineyard Haven, Martha s Vineyard, plenty of moorings available and some safe anchoring. Visit some of the wood boat building shops, enjoy the restaurants and of course stop by the famous Black Dog restaurant and store. Edgartown, Martha s Vineyard is for sure quintessential New England and epitomizes what Martha s Vineyard is known for. Excellent harbor, protected, moorings and launch service to town. Two days can easily be consumed by beaches, bike rentals, town touring, a wide assortment of restaurants, etc.
Nantucket more commercial and bigger than Edgartown but well known amongst the rich and famous as a summer retreat. And everything is more expensive. Plenty to do and two days are quickly consumed by the many activities, restaurants, beaches and action of Nantucket. Provincetown, MA. this is a hike that needs to be planned well after consulting the Cape Cod Canal tides and currents, but is also worth it. The canal will have current speeds approaching five knots so when planning the current behind you will rocket you through this beautiful landmark at over ten knots. Provincetown has a reputation for being the northern Key West with art galleries, beautiful beaches, excellent restaurants and plenty of colorful diversity of people. IF YOU WISH A ONE WAY TRIP TO MAINE WE CAN ARRANGE FOR A CAPTAIN TO BRING YOUR CHARTER YACHT BACK TO BASE FROM PORTLAND, MAINE. Since Maine is an entirely different destination, you must have cruising experience, off-shore sailing background and excellent navigation skills.
