Increased pressure on performance and durabiliy has forced connecing rod manufacurers o consider exoic maerials and fuurisic designs in he pursui of oal performance. Maerials Wheher produced from aluminium, seel or ianium, forged or bille, con rod maerials and manufacuring processes differ from one supplier o he nex. Brian Crower, Managing Direcor of Brian Crower, Inc in San Diego, California says: Aerospace grade 4340 seel is our preferred maerial for mos connecing rod applicaions. Typical values in he range of Ra 4-10µin are achieved hrough honing. However, ribological sysems like he Pin End are very complex, and heir funcion no only depends upon he fricion parner (wris pin), bu also on he engine lubricaion sysem, he oil, he siffness of he componens and many more facors. The use of DLC coaed wris pins allows running he PE wihou bushing. Assuming sufficien oil supply o he small end, no special coaing is required in he PE ID. A bushed PE sill allows beer serviceabiliy han a seel-on-seel rod, Carrillo repors. Anoher frequen poin of discussion is he surface finish of he flanges.
