OWS update Whitlingham lake is warming up nicely and still open for swimming every Wednesday evening (until the the end of August), and Saturday mornings through September. However if you are swimming we just need to make you aware of a potential issue. A member who has swum recently has been diagnosed with folliculitus, for which the possible cause is the bacteria Staph aureus which may be present in the lake. This is still to be confirmed for definite, however we would urge all swimmers to wash thoroughly with soap after being in the lake in order to minimise the risk to themselves. Olympic Triathlon Olympics starts today (Friday 5 August). Triathlon takes place at 3pm on Thursday 18th for the men and Saturday 20th for the lady. We are considering using the Whitlingham Boathouses as our viewing venue. Care to join us? Let us know via the two FB events we've created: Mens Womens Regional Academy trials This year's Regional Academy trials will take place at New Hall School, Chelmsford on 11th and 18th September. As in previous years the format of the trial is swim followed by run. The distances depend on your age on the day of the trial. If you are 16 or under the distances are 200m and 1500m. If you are 17 or over the distances are 400m and 3,000m. Each trial is solo and unpaced. There is a gap of approximately an hour between
the two as we complete the trials in the pool and then move to the running track. Your 'score' in points is based on the aggregate of your two times. The baseline for the Regional Academy programme is 310 points (Silver). Points are based on age and gender. As a guideline the following times score 155 points: Age 14 boy - swim 2:22, run 4:57 Age 14 girl - swim 2:30, run 5:25 Age 17 boy - swim 4:42, run 10:04 Age 17 girl - swim 5:03, run 11:13 The Regional Academy is the first step of the British Triathlon Talent Pathway. All British Olympic talent programmes are based on Olympic disciplines, so for triathlon that means draft legal racing. The British Triathlon Youth and Junior Superseries is a key aspect of the Academy programme and Academy members are expected to compete in as many of these events as possible. The trial target times are based on the minimum swim and run speeds required to be able to race in the Superseries. Please note that the trials are not 'for a place in the Academy' and that scoring over 310 points does not guarantee a place. Those scoring 310 or more will be invited to apply for an Academy place. Please also note that the Academy programme is for athletes competing in the Youth and Junior age groups. i.e This year's trials are open to those born in 1998 to 2002 in inclusive. If you would like to come for a trial please let me know which date you would prefer (Tim@Perfectcondition.ltd.uk).
