USC will then play Pac-10 Conference matches at No. 3 Washington on Friday (Oct. 20) and Washington State (Oct. 22). The Women of Troy are facing a daunted task at three difficult venues. Santa Clara is 51-3-3 at home since 1996 while USC has lost in its only meetings at Washington in 1996 and 1998 and the only meeting at Washington State in 1998. The Trojans are in the midst of a seven-game unbeaten streak and have not lost since a 2-1 overtime loss at Florida (Sept. 15). NEXT WEEK USC will close out its regular season home schedule with Pac- 10 matches on Friday (Oct. 27) against California at McAlister Field at 3 p.m. and on Sunday (Oct. 29) against Stanford at the Coliseum at 1 p.m. LAST WEEK USC won both Pac-10 matches at home against Oregon and Oregon State. The Trojans opened Friday (Oct. 13) with a 3-0 win against Oregon. Both teams played to a scoreless first half, but the Trojans opened up the game in the second half with goals by Jessica Edwards, Isabelle Harvey and Brittany Savelkoul. Goalkeeper Shaelyn Fernandes needed only two saves to record her first shutout of the season as the Trojans improved to 5-0 all-time against Oregon. Ali Fennell and Andrea Warner scored two goals each as USC recorded its highest goal output of the season with a 5-2 decision over Oregon State on Sunday (Oct. 15). Fennell and Christy Callier gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead at halftime before the Beavers stormed back with two goals in the first six minutes of play in the second half. Warner, however, scored back-toback goals while Fennell tallied her second goal of the game late to preserve the win for the Trojans, who improved to 2-0-1 in Pac-10 Conference play. RANKINGS As of Oct. 16, USC is ranked No. 10 by Soccer Buzz and Soccer Times, No. 11 in Soccer America and No. 13 in the NSCAA. BRONCOS BEAT Santa Clara is 9-4-1 on the season. The Broncos are coming off a 2-0 loss at Portland. The loss snapped the Broncos school-record 19-game West Coast Conference winning streak as they had outscored opponents by a 99-4 margin during the streak. Kathleen Celio leads the team with eight goals and 20 points (8-4=20). Defender Danielle Slaton and assistant coach Brandi Chastain were both members of the United States team that won the silver medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. USC VS. SANTA CLARA This is the first-ever meeting between the two schools. HUSKIES NEWS Washington is 13-1 on the season and leads the Pac-10 Conference with a 4-0 record. Its only loss of the season was a 5-0 defeat against No. 1 Notre Dame. The Huskies have a seven-game winning streak, heading into Friday s match against USC. Washington is 5-0 at home this season and has outscored opponents by a 19-1 margin. Tami Bennett leads the team with 30 points (13-4=30). She is second in the conference with 13 goals. Goalkeeper Hope Solo has allowed 12 goals this season and has a 0.95 goalsagainst-average in 14 games.

USC Women s Soccer Page 2 Head Coach Jim Millinder Jim Millinder is in his fifth season at the helm of the USC women s soccer program and has placed the Women of Troy on the verge of national prominence. He has a record of 69-22-4 (.747) with USC and an overall mark of 77-49-8 (.604). A former U.S. National Team member, Millinder was named the 1997 West Region Coach of the Year and the 1996 and 1998 Pac-10 Coach of the Year. Millinder was the head coach of the women s soccer program at Loyola Marymount from 1994-95, where he posted an 8-27-4 record in two seasons. Prior to that, he was the women s head coach at El Camino College in Torrance for four seasons (1990-93), winning the California junior college state championship in 1990. He played professionally as a midfielder for eight years, including stints in the North American Soccer League (NASL) with the New York Cosmos (1978), Los Angeles Aztecs (1979), Tulsa Roughnecks (1980) and Fort Lauderdale Strikers (1981-82). He also appeared in 25 international matches. USC defeated Washington last year, 2-1, at the Coliseum. USC also defeated Washington, 2-1 in overtime, in the first round of the 1998 NCAA Tournament at the Coliseum. COUGARS CAPSULE Washington State is 10-4 on the season and 2-2 in Pac-10 play. The Cougars are coming off impressive wins on the road at Arizona (4-0) and Arizona State (1-0). WSU also played tough at home in a 2-1 loss to California and 1-0 double overtime loss to Stanford. Deka DeWitt leads the team with 11 goals and 24 points (11-2=24). Goalkeeper Lindsey Jorgensen is 9-2 with a 0.97 goals-againstaverage in 12 games. USC VS. WASHINGTON STATE USC is 4-1 all-time against Washington State with the loss coming in the Trojans only trip to Pullman with a 2-0 loss on Oct. 9, 1998. RING MY BELL Midfielder/forward Isabelle Harvey (Cap-Rouge, Quebec, Canada) is receiving accolades as one of the top collegiate players this season as a senior. Harvey was named as a first team preseason All-American by College Soccer News and has been named as a finalist for the Hermann Award, given to the top player in the nation. The three-time All-American currently holds school career marks for goals (45), points (126) and game-winning goals (20). She is tied for first in assists (36) with Kim Clark (1996-99). Harvey opened the 2000 season on Aug. 27 with an assist on the Trojans first goal in a 2-0 win at UC Irvine off a corner kick. She recorded a two-goal game against No. 21 Michigan on Sept. 3 in Tempe, Ariz. Harvey is second on the team with 14 points (5-4=14). Last season, Harvey led the team with 30 points (11-8=30). On Oct. 17, 1999, Harvey recorded two assists against Washington State, becoming the first player in USC history to record 100 points in a career. Harvey also played for Canada in the 1999 Women s World Cup. THE QUEEN OF ASSISTS Isabelle Harvey is closing in on another school career mark. Harvey needs one more assist to break the record held by Kim Clark (1996-99) for most career assists (36). PHOENIX PHENOM Freshman Jessica Edwards (Mesa, AZ/Dobson HS) has made an immediate impact on the team and is adding scoring punch for the Women of Troy this season. She is first on the team with 16 points (6-4=16) and currently has a four-game point-scoring streak, where she has three goals and two assists. Edwards scored the lone goal in a 1-1 tie on Oct. 8 vs. No. 5 UCLA, which earned her a spot on the Soccer America Team of the Week (Oct. 2-8). She recorded her fourth goal of the season on Sept. 30 at Utah (4-1 win) as time expired at the end of the second half. On Sept. 8, Edwards scored two goals and added an assist in USC s 3-1 win over Baylor. She scored a goal and led the team with a game-high eight shots on Aug. 27 in a 2-0 win at UC Irvine. She leads the team with 65 shots (sophomore Ali Fennell is second with 24 shots). TAKING A SHOT AT THE RECORD Jessica Edwards is on pace to challenge Maggie Merritt s record for most shots in a season. Edwards has 65 shots through 13 games and is on pace to record 100 shots this season (Merritt registered 92 shots in the 1994 season). A PERFECT WORLD Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Arase (La Canada/La Canada HS) is 7-0-2 this season for the Trojans and has allowed six goals this season for a 0.62 goals-against-average. Arase recorded 11 saves in a 1-1 tie against No. 5 UCLA on Oct. 8 at the Coliseum. She recorded her fourth shutout of the season (sixth career) on Sept. 22, making three saves in a 1-0 decison at home against Loyola Marymount and on Sept. 10 vs. Vanderbilt, she added her fifth solo shutout, making four saves in a 3-0 victory. She started and won both matches at the Sun Devil Classic, including her fourth solo shutout on Sept. 1 in a 1-0 decision against Colorado. She opened the season with her third solo career shutout on Aug. 27 in a 2-0 win against UC Irvine. Arase is now 14-0-2 as a starter for the Trojans.

Arizona 11 SAVING THE DAY Lauren Arase registered a career night on Sept. 28 when she made 21 saves in a 1-1 tie at No. 23 BYU. BYU recorded 38 shots in 120 minutes against Arase, who missed tying the school record of 23 saves by a goalkeeper in a match (held by Cathy Zoccoli in 1993 vs. Stanford). SUPER SOPHOMORE Sophomore Ali Fennell (Santa Ana/Mater Dei HS) thrived for the Trojans last season in her freshman campaign and, along with Harvey, gives USC one of the top 1-2 tandems on the flanks. Fennell is third on the team in scoring with 12 points (5-2=12). Fennell recorded two goals in a 5-2 win over Oregon State on Oct. 15 at McAlister Field. On Sept. 10 against Vanderbilt, Fennell scored two goals and added an assist in the Trojans 3-0 shutout. Last year, she was third on the team in scoring with 16 points (6-4=16). Among the highlights in 1999, she was named a twotime Pac-10 Player of the Week (Sept. 13 and 20) and to the Soccer America Team of the Week twice. She received the first award after scoring the game-winner against then-no. 8 UConn and assisting on the game-winner against then-no. 12 Portland. After scoring both goals in a 2-1 win over then-no. 8 BYU, she received the second set of honors. DOUBLE TROUBLE The Women of Troy have a sister act this season with the presence of sophomore Kim and freshman Megan Abbamonto (Mission Viejo/Capistrano Valley HS). Both midfielders have played in every game this season. Kim, who has been hampered in two seasons (one as a redshirt) by injuries, has made solid contributions off the bench with two assists while Megan has three goals and four assists for the Trojans. PLAYING WITH ABBA ILITY Megan Abbamonto is tied for fourth on the team with 10 points (3-4=10). She is tied with Jessica Edwards and Isabelle Harvey for the team lead with four assists. She scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 decision on Sept. 17 against Central Florida in Gainesville, Fla. Abbamonto has dominated the midfield for the Trojans in her first season; she is tied for the team lead with Isabelle Harvey with two game-winning goals. WARNING THE ENEMY Senior midfielder Andrea Warner (Dana Point/Dana Hills HS) has been steady all season off the bench, but really produced for the Trojans on Oct. 15 with a five-point performance (two goals and one assist) in a 5-2 win over Oregon State. Warner is now tied for fourth with Megan Abbamonto on the team in scoring with 10 points (4-2=10). FIT TO BE TIED The Trojans have recorded two ties this season, both against top 25 teams. USC tied at No. 23 BYU, 1-1, on Sept. 28, and registered a 1-1 tie on Oct. 8 against No. 5 UCLA. WHO S HOT: Freshman Jessica Edwards has a four-game point-scoring streak (3-2=8) and had a three-game goal-scoring streak from Sept. 30-Oct. 13. Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Arase is 7-0-2 this season and has made 38 saves in her last four games. EUROPEAN VACATION For the first time in the program s history, the women s soccer team went on an extended preseason trip. The Trojans played four games during a 12-day tour of Germany and Belgium (Aug. 11-22), going 4-0 and outscoring their opponents by a 16-3 margin. USC opened the tour with a 5-2 win over FSV Frankfurt with a two-goal performance by junior Christy Callier. Freshman Jessica Edwards scored twice as the Trojans defeated the Belgian National Team, 5-1, on Aug. 17, with Isabelle Harvey, Ali Fennell and Megan Orach also scoring goals. Callier added another two-goal game on Aug. 19 in a 4-0 shutout of V.V. Saestum, the current Dutch national champions. Freshman Megan Abbamonto scored both goals to complete the tour sweep on Aug. 21 in a 2-0 win over RSV Anderlecht.
