What is an SHSP? Comprehensive, multi-stakeholder plan that sets goals and strategies to reduce highway deaths and injuries: Statewide, multimodal highway safety plan Coordinated framework for reducing deaths and serious injuries Involvement of Federal, state, local, and private sector stakeholders: 4Es Required to be updated every five years 5

Infrastructure Solutions Roadway Departure» Reduce the likelihood of leaving the travel lane(s) Identify routes and segments, provide training; post appropriate speed limits Expand use of centerline, edge line, and shoulder rumble strips and stripes, pavement markings, markers, and other devices Improve shoulders, roadway geometry, and enhance pavement friction Implement roadway conversions/road diets, medians, and other complete streets principals» Minimize the adverse consequences Incorporate the use of roadside safety devices Promote improving ditch and back slope designs Remove, relocate, shield, or delineate trees, utilities, and other fixed objects» 15
