WELCOME Dear Whitehorse United Soccer Club players and parents, I would like to welcome our current and all our new members to the Club and wish you great success in 2014 in your soccer development journey. We are excited about the upcoming season as we have acquired the services of Darren Carr as our Technical Director for this season. Darren has professional playing experience in England and over 10 years of full-time coaching experience. He will be working to assist our coaches and the club will be implementing training programs across all junior teams as per his guidelines. We are fortunate that many of our coaches will be continuing with us this season. We have re-appointed Sean Coulter as the Men s Senior coach, Ange Tonios as the Under 20 and Men s Reserves coach and Rob Madjer as the Women s Senior coach. Following the success of our Men s Thirds team last year with the League and Cup titles, we will also have a Men s Fourth team this year. The Third s and Fourth s teams will be competing in the Churches League. Most of our junior coaches will be continuing from last year and with the support of Darren Carr we believe we can provide a new quality of coaching which in turn will assist the players in their development. We are very proud to be continuing our associating with Wheelchair Soccer by again fielding two teams in the competition this year. Our Whitehorse Stallions and Brumbies teams have enjoyed great success over the past five years. The teams participate in an indoor competition every Saturday at Springers Leisure Centre, Keysborough. New players a most welcome at the Club and we encourage existing members to invite their friends to join us. We want to see more boys and girls participating in the MiniRoos program for 5 7 year old children and we are hopeful of having Girls teams competing in the Under 11 and 14 age groups this year. We want players of all ability to learn, enjoy and love the game and remember their experience at our Club as a positive one.
With great support from a hard working and passionate committee, we will continue to improve to provide a Club that allows players to learn and develop their skills and provide an enjoyable and safe environment for them and all that visit the Club. CLUB PHILOSOPHY Individual technique and a technical approach to playing games takes precedent over everything else There is an underlying belief that the game, when played at the highest levels, is ultimately a decision making exercise under pressure so we need to help players become excellent decision makers when under pressure Excellent technique and a clear understanding of how the game fits together is required before a player can become an excellent decision maker. The program is a long term program and is not interested in achieving quick fixes to get results There is an underlying belief that game is not about winning or losing. It is a game where players who give 100% and can manipulate time and space the best in a game functional and effective way, will be the better players in the long run No one (players, coaches, parents, club members) prioritises winning over and above developing technically minded players, whose priority is be able to; Play in tight spaces Play in a clearly defined possession based structure Keep effective possession Score well crafted goals The defensive side of the game is discussed and developed, players are encouraged to win the ball back as soon as possible when lost, but only so they can then refocus on keeping effective possession. A Technical Game Plan Needs Technical and intelligent players (without which a team cannot play a technical possession based game) A possession based structure (4-3-3 or one of its derivatives) A style of play which puts the players long term development and understanding first Technical Training Program Players play the way they train From the very start players should be trained in an environment that promotes individual technique and a technical possession based mindset towards playing the game
