St John Vianney Catholic School Newsletter Edition: 2017-18 / 53 (8 th December 2017) Everything we can be, with Christ in our hearts. A new commandment: Love one another As the second candle on our Advent Wreath was lit on Friday, Class 2 led us on a reflection on its significance: love. Love is at the heart of our school, and is central to the relationships we have here. Even when it s not working, love for one another is the lesson that we always return to as we try to resolve our differences and difficulties. Jesus guidance on this is clear; try to show the love he has for us to all we encounter friends, staff, family and those that need our support. And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. If you have love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples. John 13:34-35
Class 4 Westminster Hall Class 4 sang beautifully (there is a clip on the Home page of the Newsletter, under the Media heading) when they visited Cathedral Hall this week. Their outreach programme is progressing well, and these events are an opportunity to measure themselves against other schools in preparation for the big performance next year. Very proud of our children once again!

If you pay tax it would be very much appreciated if you could fill in the gift aid forms. Punctuality please note that, as everyone knows, it is vital that children arrive on time each day. While we all have occasions where this does not happen, persistent lateness significantly disrupts learning and the school have a duty to bring it to your attention. Please remember that we do this for the benefit of your children and ask that you remain courteous and respectful in your interactions on these occasions. If there are any underlying reasons that punctuality is a particular challenge for you, please make an appointment to see the Headteacher to discuss. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Children must be in at the earlier time of 8.30am on Tuesday 12th December in order that we arrive in a timely fashion for the Panto. SJV FC Triumph in Aquinas Cup! After a promising tournament last week, our Mighty Greens stepped up a gear today, as they fought off opposition from 9 local schools to emerge winners of the inaugural Aquinas Cup. Huge congratulations to the team, Mr. Quin, Ms. Kavanagh and David Coach Smith, our volunteer coach, for their support, encouragement and footballing genius! Onwards and upwards in the new year, with a couple of volunteers already stepping forward, we aim to get a few more teams on the go.
Match Report: Most successful teams whether in sport or other aspects of life share some common attributes: they have talented individuals that can make a difference, they work hard, work together and they help each other, and they also have a plan or an approach of how they are going to achieve their objectives. All this was on display today from SJV s Mighty Greens who triumphed over nine local rivals to win the inaugural 6-a-side football tournament at Park View Academy and are now holders of The Aquinas Cup. SJV topped Group 1 with 3 wins over: West Green, Chestnuts and Lea Valley and a solitary defeat by a single goal to a strong Seven Sisters team who finished group runners up to SJV on goals scored. And what goals they were, six in all across the four games, and shared between: Jesse, Malachy and Gabriel. The semi-final was a hard-fought battle against Group 2 runners up, Belmont, that proved a strong test and really showed that SJV had arrived to compete. The final itself saw SJV face Our Lady of Muswell who knocked out Seven Sisters in the other semi-final, and what a game it was. The early stages saw the SJV attack get on top of their opponents only to be matched by an in form and talented OLM keeper who made a series of great saves. But even he couldn t hold out as more SJV pressure saw the ball break to Malachy whose calm finish whilst under pressure broke the deadlock. This woke OLM up and they then started to threaten only to be knocked back by the goal of the tournament. With OLM pushing forward SJV won the ball, moved it quickly and found Romeo wide left who: took a touch, sighted the goal and shot across the keeper and into the far corner for what proved to be the winning and final score - what a goal! What followed was a hectic 3 minutes of end to end football with great saves, goal line clearances and some nice moves by both teams. Unfortunately for OLM when they did break our lines they couldn t beat Jakub who made some fantastic saves that capped his own excellent performance on the day. Congratulations to all the players who stuck together, stuck to their positions and jobs and worked very hard for each other to finish deserved CHAMPIONS!! David Coach Smith

Messy, Mucky Fun Year 2 today showed us what can be achieved with a few strange ingredients, a good imagination, hard work and a good sense of fun. Their topic HAS been messy. It HAS been mucky. But it has been a great experience and it has fired up the children's creative writing, which they shared with us so well today. Brilliant, confident acting and some lovely signing topped off a very impressive assembly!
