NZDA MEMBER POEM Ross Paton of Marlborough Branch entered poems in the national NZDA competition. Here s one, courtesy of their branch newsletter. Times Past Ross Paton Ross Livingston Mountains, Southland, 1967 I have to tell you now, of things that I know That happened to me, so long ago. Many years have gone by, Since I heard the Stags at morning, full cry, The tear from my eye that sometimes I dry Is for time in the hills, so long now gone. Those distant blue hills, the rivers and rills, The ridges we crossed to valleys unknown. The tear from my eye that sometimes I dry, Is for days that are gone but memories remain, How I long my strength to regain. The Tahr and Chamois, the Goats and the Deer, Where are they now, anywhere near? The storms and the sunshine, the smoke from the campfire, The coolness of dusk, the memories that rush, Where are they now, those men I admired, Many are dead, that makes me feel tired, Water in my boots, mud upon my knees, Golden shafts of light through the Black Beech trees Bruises on my shins, scratches on my hands Moss on the ground, Keas on the scree. This was my world, all part of me. * * * * *
Target Practice Here s a novel idea spotted on Pinterest if you had a safe space to build an archery target for practice. There are other ideas out there too In fact, there are a lot of good ideas to be found on Pinterest, some that might get you wanting to experiment with your gear and/or hunting techniques. For example, try searching these boards for ideas; > tarp camps > gun racks > bushcraft > snares for small game Or, try some fun boards such as: > survival hacks > hunting humour
