Designed for easy and quick in line maintenance and testing Low head loss Economical for life Corrosion resistant Maximum working pressure of 1200 kpa Operating temperature range of 1 C to 80 C Approved to AS 2845-1 DESCRIPTION The AVG 40-200 Series Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Prevention is designed to give maximum protection against backflow caused by either back siphonage or back pressure. It is an economical and durable device that is the easiest on the market to maintain inline. The device comprises two independently acting spring- loaded check valves and a differential relief valve located between the check valves. ln keeping with good design practice, and to minimize the risk of damage, the diaphragm and the by-pass are built into the body of the device. The total variance in pressure across the device is approximately 75 kpa. OPERATION During normal flow conditions, the relief valve is held shut by the supply pressure on the relief valve diaphragm acting through the internal by-pass passage. The two main check valves are held open, supplying water downstream. ln the area between the check valves, called the zone, the pressure is maintained at approximately 49kPa lower than the inlet supply pressure. Should a back siphonage or back pressure condition occur, the second check valve will seal, prohibiting the backflow of water. ln the unlikely event that the second check valve becomes fouled, the pressure in the zone will increase causing the differential relief valve to open to atmosphere. This will ensure that the entire backflow relieves to the drain and no potentially contaminated water enters the upstream potable water supply. APPLICATION The AVG 40-200 Series RPZD provides maximum protection to the potable water supply from contamination in high hazard applications such as cooling towers, abattoirs and sewage treatment plants. SPECIFICATION STATEMENT AVG 40-200 Series Reduced Pressure Zone Device shall be installed as per Australian Standards AS 3500-1, including resilient seated isolation valves and strainer The backflow prevention device shall be manufactured to AS 2845-1 and be annually tested and maintained as required as per AS 3500-1. The valve shall be installed at a minimum height of 300mm from finished ground level. The valve shall be adequately supported with approved supports and clipping as required. 10 Tel: 1800 AVG AUS (284 287) www.avg.net.au
