Junior Olympics Meet Recap DART swimming won the March 4-6 Sierra Nevada Junior Olympic Championships for the second year in a row. DART earned 2096 points, outdistancing second place Sierra Marlins (1086) and California Capital Aquatics (839) in the 22 team event. The meet, held in Roseville, was a three day adventure of swimming outdoors in adverse stormy conditions. Rain and wind were prevalent throughout much of the meet, leading to the cancelation of finals on Saturday. Despite the conditions, DART coaches were very pleased with the swimmers efforts and results. 35 of 73 Aquadart swimmers placed in the top ten in at least one event, sending them to finals. DART relays won eight races, with the 11-12 age group winning 7 races and the 13-14 girls winning another. The 11-12 girls A teams swept all of their four races, and their B teammates were close behind, placing second in three relays. The 11-12 boys won three of their races and placed second on their fourth, missing first by 8/100 s of a second. Individually there were outstanding efforts in the pool. The 8-U crew dominated the competition, with Adelia Biello winning four of five events, and placing first in the 8-U girls high point standings. Tyler Vong won the high point for the 8-U boys. He won each of his five events, setting Junior Olympic records in three of them; 25 yard fly 14.83, 25 yard breast 17.38, and 25 yard back 17.75. Teammates Ella Ackerman and Blake Fuchslin also swam well, placing in the top ten in each of their events and taking third in the high point standing for 8 -U girls and boys. Brennan Fuchslin had a great meet, swimming in finals in all of his races, winning the 50 back in 33.89, and taking 2nd in the 10-UB high point. Valarie Vong, despite aging up to the 11-12 group only weeks prior to the meet, won the 11-12 girls 50 and 100 breast in 33.29 and 1:13.94, and placed second in the 11-12G high point.
