Dear Participants in the Tour de Suisse Challenge 2017, The second Tour de Suisse Challenge is almost upon us and we are delighted that you will be taking part in this new cycling sport highlight for everyone. We have now compiled some up-to-date and useful information for you in compact form, which will enable things to run smoothly at the venue. When driving to the venue, please observe all the signposting at the start locations. In each case there will be separate parking areas signposted for all participants in the Tour de Suisse Challenge. The route from the car park to the "Accreditation/Number Issue/Cloakroom" facility and from there to the start will also be clearly signposted. After the following lists of "GENERAL INFORMATION about the Tour de Suisse Challenge", from page 3 of this document you will find the individual information about the 3 races of the Tour de Suisse Challenge 2017. GENERAL INFORMATION about the Tour de Suisse Challenge Rules of behaviour in the race Appropriate race security for the Tour de Suisse Challenge is provided by the tour police and the security service of the Tour de Suisse. The security of the route is basically guaranteed, but all participants are obliged to comply with the Road Traffic Act during the race. Although public roads are closed to general traffic, parked and/or oncoming or overtaking vehicles can always be expected. The readiness to brake and the obligation to ride on the right hand side of the road must be maintained at all times. The instructions of the police and of the organisers must be followed without exception during the race. In the event of non-compliance, the jury reserves the right to impose a penalty or to disqualify the participant. WARNING for the 2nd stage/morgarten Memorial: Safeguarding by the tour police and security service here is limited to 30 minutes as stipulated by the permit (measured after the leaders pass by). This will be measured by a specially marked organisation vehicle that will monitor the 30-minute window during the race and will visually and audibly signal the participants when they fall more than 30 minutes behind the leaders. All race participants who find themselves behind this vehicle will be subject to the regulations of the Swiss Road Traffic Act and will no longer enjoy any protection or closure of the route; however, they may end the race with a score if they meet the minimum speed of 22 km/h as stipulated in the regulations, and their result will also be recorded in the daily and overall rankings. Day packs At Accreditation, each rider will be given a starter bag (=day pack). Before the start he can fill this with his personal effects and hand it in for the duration of the race at the day pack stand near to start/finish (please look out for the signs). The starter bag can be retrieved immediately after the finish at the same place. Support vehicles The races of the Tour de Suisse Challenge, with the exception of the CORNÈRCARD CANCELLARA CHALLENGE, will be escorted by the support vehicles of the Tour de Suisse. These vehicles, including the numerous motorcycles and the ambulance, are there for your safety and to guarantee the
problem-free running of the individual races. All instructions given by the police and by the vehicles of the organisation are to be followed without question, as otherwise you will risk disqualification and exclusion from the race. Any support vehicles which overtake you in the race will sound their horns to indicate this. Please allow these vehicles to overtake without obstruction during the race. Spares support vehicles The Tour de Suisse Challenge race will also be supported by a neutral race service provided by "TREK" and "DT-Swiss", made up of a total of three cars and three motorcycles, which will assist you as much as they can with materials in the event of a breakdown. We cannot guarantee full coverage for all types of breakdown, and also with regard to ensuring compatibility of the components. The motorcycles are all only fully equipped for 11-speed (Shimano) drivetrains. We recommend that you carry a spare inner tube and a pump/cartridge so that you can repair a puncture without outside help if necessary. If you make use of our neutral race service, please return the materials provided to the "Daypacks" stand immediately on reaching the finish, as these materials will also be used and needed for the professionals' race. Anyone who has to leave the race for whatever reason can either ride to the finish in the broom wagon or continue to the finish on the course, observing the highway code, after first handing in his/her start number to one of the event organiser's official support vehicles. Refreshment station on the course In the course of each race, there will be a refreshment station, at which drinking bottles will be passed to the riders. The refreshment zones will be indicated by means of signs. Before the refreshment zone there will be a container on the right-hand side of the road, similar to a football goal with a net, indicated by means of signs bearing the words "Bottle Drop". You can dispose of your empty bottles in time by throwing them into the net before taking on new ones in the refreshment zone. The drinking bottles will be handed over by our helpers on the right-hand side of the road, viewed from the direction of the riders. Participants who would like a bottle should ride on the right at the refreshment zones and reduce their speed so that the handover works smoothly. Order of the feedzones: - Water - ISO - ISO - Water Final refreshment zone after the race and refreshment voucher in the day pack When you arrive at the finish, you can quench your thirst and take the edge off your hunger at the final refreshment zone after the home straight (watch out for the signs). Refreshment voucher when wearing the official shirt in the race Every participant who wears the official shirt of the Tour de Suisse Challenge during the stages receives a refreshment voucher in the form of a wristband at the entrance to the start blocks (at the individual time trials at the entrance to the start building), which can then be redeemed immediately after the race.
