VOLUME 1, ISSUE II 08/01/2016 August- The Sunday Of Summer We are in the final stretch of summer with the coming of August! Students are in the last month of summer before school starts back up at the end of the month. I hope everyone has had a wonderful, active, safe summer and accomplished all they wanted to during the summer. I also hope everyone is excited to go back to school, meet back up with friends, and get into the swing of school, sports, and of course 4 -H! August 31 is the end of the 2015-2016 4-H Year and we will be starting the 2016-2017 4-H year off with a bang! There is a lot that is going to start picking up with the beginning of August, and I am busy getting everything organized and prepared to have a wonderful Fall with the 4-H Program! September 22, will bring the first official day of Fall, and I don t know about y all, but I am more than ready to start getting some cooler months that will hopefully bring some moisture. VOLUME 1, ISSUE II PAGE 2 Make Sure To Enroll For 4-H Starting Thursday, August 11 until Sunday, August 14, 4HConnect will be offline. This time will allow the State 4-H Office to clear off the established 4-H members, re -charter all the 4-H Clubs, and get 4HConnect ready for the 2016-2017 4-H Year. Then starting on I am looking for a group of outstanding individuals from 9th grade through 12th grade to be able to call upon when need arises that will be able to help plan, organize and execute different 4-H Programs throughout the year. These individuals will need to be responsible, accountable, self-motivated and outstanding 4-H members for younger 4-H members to look up to. This experience is designed to provide Senior 4-H members with the Monday, August 15, registration will be open to enroll or re-enroll into 4-H for the 2016-2017 4-H year. Note: This registration is only for 4-H members nine years or older. Existing 4-H adults and new 4-H adults are welcomed and encouraged to participate in this meeting. The topics covered in this meeting include: In October, you will have the opportunity to become part of the biggest youth science event in the nation: 4-H National Youth Science Day {NYSD}. You and millions of other youth will become 4-H engineers for the day and engage in the ninth annual NYSD. During this year s challenge, you will explore how drone engineering and remote sensing can be used to solve real world problems, such as helping a community develop climate change resiliency and energy 4-H Adult Meeting Communication between everyone involved in the 4-H Program 4-H projects and meetings for 4-H projects Facebook accounts Answer any questions anyone may have about the 4-H Program and what can be expected from the 4-H 4-H NYSD - Drone Discovery sustainability. To succeed in this challenge, you ll need to think like an engineer as you design, build and test drones. There are many different kinds of engineers and different ways to approach a challenge. What kind of engineer do you think you ll need to be in order to master drone technology? Drone Discovery was developed by Cornell University Cooperative Extension. This will be a major recruitment opportunity for the 4-H Program. The Fannin County Fair 4-H Promotional Booth This year s 2016 Fannin County Fair is going to be Wednesday, October 5 - Saturday, October 8, 2016. We will once again have a 4-H Promotional Booth that will be displayed at the County Fair. I am taking any suggestions you may have for a theme for this year s 4-H Promotional Booth. I encourage every 4-H family to come up with at least one Fall Into Fun 4-H Festival 2016 Fannin County Fair Orientation The 2016 Fannin County Fair is Wednesday, October 5, 2016 - Saturday, October 8, 2016. We will be having a MANDATORY fair meeting on Monday, September 26 from Festival will be used to show off the different projects that the 4-H members participate in and other opportunities that will be available to them through the 4-H Program. This event will be advertised to all children from Kindergarten through their Senior year. Please 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. located at the Extension Office. This meeting is mandatory to all exhibitors that will be showing livestock or entering other projects at creative theme for this year s promotional booth. The 2016 contest will, once again, be held at the State National 2015-2016 Fannin County 4-H Banquet This year s 4-H Banquet will throughout the 2015-2016 be held on Thursday, October 4-H Year. We are in the 13th starting at 5:30 P.M. beginning stages of planning This will be the Fannin County and are looking for a theme wide achievement banquet to for this year s Banquet. show off our wonderful 4-H Anyone who has any member s accomplishments suggestions on a theme for Lend a hand to your community on One Day 4-H! This event allows 4-H members, parents, and volunteers help their communities through service projects. Fannin County 4-H Program participates in Great Fair of Texas in Dallas and is scheduled to be held on the state fair grounds on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. The contest planning committee is also working on some plans for educational One Day 4-H Days of Service in Bonham, Texas as our One Day 4-H activity. This year s 6th Annual Great Days of Service is set for Saturday, October 15, 2016. More information to come regarding Great Days of events and activities on Monday, October 3, 2016. VOLUME 1, ISSUE II PAGE 6 This year we will be having a booth at the annual Halloween on the Square on Monday, October 31 from 5:30-7:00 P.M. The Teen Leaders and I will be working on creating a booth for the Halloween On The Square 4-H program that will be ran by several of our 4-H members. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas on the Halloween booth, please bring it into the office or email it to Krystal at krystal.otwell@ag.tamu.edu. Please mark this date on your calendar as well as it would be a great community service project to participate in. More information will come in the following month! Community Service Opportunities There are several wonderful Community Service Opportunities available in the following months. Every 4-H member is encouraged to participate in all the Community Service events that they can. Part of the 4-H pledge is Hands through larger service - a commitment to make our community a better place to live! Some Community Service Opportunities are: Farmer Heritage Day ~ This event is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 10AM - 3PM. This is a free, fun and educational event. They will be celebrating the history of farming at Mr. Sam s house with hands-on activities such as butter and ice cream making, weaving, farm chores, games, ect. They would like to invite 4 -H members to bring show animals of all kinds and talk about the animals, their diet and such with the visitors. They are also looking for other members to participate in speaking opportunities, demonstrations and talking about 4-H projects. There are a multitude of volunteer opportunities during the Farmer Heritage Day. Hay Show - This is an Agriculture and Natural Resource Program put on by Cody Maxwell.
