The two played one of the more entertaining games of the season back on Feb. 2 -- a 76-73 Panthers victory. ULM still leads the all-time series 4-3. The Warhawks are 2-1 in games played in Monroe, although the Panthers earned a 73-72 victory in its last trip on Jan. 2, 2011. All seven games in the series have been decided by eight points or less and the last three have been decided by a combined eight points (FIU is 2-1 in those games). ULM dropped its third straight game overall and seventh straight to Middle Tennessee with an 87-46 loss on Saturday inside the Murphy Center. The Warhawks shot below 40 percent for the second straight game, finishing at 37.2 percent. Junior Amos Olatayo registered double-digit points for the fifth straight game and 14th time this season with 10 points and seven rebounds against Middle Tennessee. Olatayo leads the Warhawks and ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in scoring with 15.9 points per game. Sophomore Trent Mackey made a 3-pointer for the fifth straight game and finished with five points against Middle Tennessee. Mackey leads the Sun Belt and ranks 18th nationally in 3-point percentage (.434). He also ranks third in the conference and 50th nationally in 3-point makes per game (2.63). With 63 3-point makes this season, Mackey is just four shy of moving into the top 10 on ULM s single-season 3-point makes list. Junior Jayon James ranks second in the Sun Belt and 63rd nationally in assists per game (5.0). James need just seven more assists to move into the top 10 on ULM s single-season assists list. The Warhawks are coming off a loss at Middle Tennessee on Saturday while the Panthers won their second straight with a 65-52 victory over UALR last Thursday. The game will follow the ULM-FIU women s game, which tips off at 5:15 p.m. Doubleheader tickets can be purchased for $5, $10 and $12 by contacting the ULM Ticket Office. LAST GAME: MIDDLE TENNESSEE RECAP Middle Tennessee rolled to its 14th straight victory with an 87-46 victory over ULM on Saturday inside the Murphy Center. It marked the Warhawks largest setback since a 108-70 loss at Tennessee Tech on Nov. 29, 2008. Middle Tennessee led by as many as 51 points in the second half before ULM used a 14-4 run in the final minutes. The Warhawks finished the game shooting 37.2 percent from the field. Junior guard Amos Olatayo was the only ULM player to score in double figures with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds in 25 minutes. It was the fifth straight game that Olatayo has scored in double-digits and the 14th time overall this season. Sophomore Trey Lindsey added nine points, three rebounds and three assists in a career-high 37 minutes of action. ULM TRENDS ULM is 11th in the Sun Belt in scoring offense with an average of 60.0 points per game. The Warhawks rank fourth in the conference in field-goal percentage (.428), third in 3-point percentage (.353) and and 11th in free-throw percentage (.581). ULM also ranks second in the conference in assists per game (13.3), fifth in steals per game (7.1) and seventh in 3-point makes per game (6.0). ULM has had a balanced scoring attack this season with six players averaging at least 6.0 points per game. Eight different ULM players have scored in double-digits at least once this season and four different players have registered at least 20 points in a game. Junior Amos Olatayo leads the team and ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in scoring with 15.9 points in just 31.2 minutes per game. Olatayo has scored in double figures a team-leading 14 times and he has registered 20 or more points eight times this season. Olatayo ranks 14th in the Sun Belt in field-goal percentage (.465). The Alief, Texas, native is averaging 17.5 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 47.8 percent (99-of-207) from the field and 57.8 percent (48-of-83) from the free-throw line over ULM s last 15 games. Junior Jayon James averages 9.5 points and ranks second in the Sun Belt and 63rd nationally with 5.0 assists per game this season. James (6-6) is tied with Michael Carter-Williams of Syracuse as the tallest player in the country to average at least 5.0 assists per game. James also ranks 13th in the Sun Belt in rebounds per game (5.8) and fifth in assist-turnover ratio (1.0). He has recorded double-digit assists in two games this season, including a career-high 15 at FIU on Feb. 2. With 120 on the season, James needs eight more assists to move into sole possession of 10th place on ULM s single-season list. Sophomore Trent Mackey leads the Sun Belt and ranks 18th nationally in 3-point percentage (.434). He also ranks third in the conference and 50th nationally with an average of 2.63 3-point makes per game. Mackey became just the 17th player in school history to reach 100 career 3-point makes on Feb. 16 against Arkansas State. He is just five 3-point makes shy of passing Anthony Jones for 10th place on ULM s single-season list and 17 makes away from moving into the top 10 on the school s career list. Junior R.J. McCray has started 23 straight games at the point guard position for ULM and is averaging 7.1 points and 2.5 assists per game this season. McCray has scored in double-digits eight times this season after notching double figures just three times in his first two seasons with the Warhawks. McCray also has eight games with at least four assists this season. Junior Millaun Brown has started in 22 of ULM s 24 games this season and is averaging 6.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Brown has scored in double-digits on four occasions this season, including a career-high 21 points against North Texas on Feb. 14. Brown pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds last Thursday against Western Kentucky. The Warhawks do not have a regular starter back from last season and returned just 28 percent of their scoring and 24 percent of their rebounding from a season ago. 2012-13 ULM MEN S BASKETBALL 2

KEITH RICHARD HEAD COACH, THIRD SEASON Keith Richard is in his third season at the Warhawks head coach. He was named ULM s seventh men s basketball coach on April 22, 2010. Has compiled 164 victories in his 12th season as a head coach at ULM and Louisiana Tech. Richard is one of just two head coaches in school history -- joining Mike Vining -- to have also been a studentathlete and an assistant coach at ULM. He was with the Warhawks in both capacities for six of the program s seven NCAA Tournament appearances in the 1980s and early 1990s. He has completely rebuilt the program academically in his first two seasons. The team s Academic Progress Rate (APR) has increased dramatically in each of Richard s first two seasons. Served as the head coach at Louisiana Tech 1998-2007 and compiled a record of 150-117, the third-most wins in school history. In nine seasons, Richard had 11 players named all-conference, inlcuding three-time NCAA rebounding champion Paul Milsap, who was later drafted by the Utah Jazz. Guided Louisiana Tech to three 20-win seasons and NIT appearances in 2002 and 2006. Served as an assistant coach at LSU from 2008-10, where he helped the Tigers win the 2008-09 SEC regular-season championship and reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He is the only ULM player to record a double-double this season. James five double-doubles have come against Southeastern Louisiana (10 pts and 12 rbs), Southern (11 pts and 11 rbs), Florida Atlantic (26 pts and 10 rbs), North Texas (19 pts and 10 rbs) and FIU (11 pts and 15 assts). With 63 3-point makes this season, Mackey is tied for13th place on ULM s single-season list. He needs five more 3s this season to pass Anthony Jones (1990-91) and move into the top 10. Mackey is also closing in on the school s top 10 list for career 3-pointers in just two seasons. Mackey became the 17th player in school history to reach 100 career 3s on Feb. 16 against Arkansas State. He is 17 3-point makes away from tying Brian Lubeck (1999-02) for 10th place on ULM s career list. PREVIEWING FIU FIU enters play Thursday winners of two straight games following a 65-52 victory over UALR on Feb. 21. The Panthers are in third place in the Sun Belt s East Division with a conference record of 10-8. FIU is third in the conference in scoring offense (70.0 ppg) and ninth in scoring defense (70.3 ppg). The Panthers are shooting 43.1 percent from the field, 33.9 percent from 3-point range and 70.6 percent in free-throw percentage. Junior Tymell Murphy leads the Panthers and ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in scoring with 15.3 points per game. Murphy also ranks ninth in rebounds per game (7.1) and he leads the conference in field-goal percentage (.592). Junior Malik Smith is the Sun Belt s 11th leading scorer with 13.5 points per game and freshman Jerome Frink contributes 10.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game for the Panthers. Sophomore Deric Hill is eighth in the Sun Belt in assists per game (2.9) and second in steals per game (2.1). Richard Pitino, the son of Louisville head coach Rick Pitino, is in his first season as the head coach at FIU. FIU rallied in the final minute for a 76-73 victory over ULM back on Feb. 2 in Miami. The Panthers also won the last meeting in Monroe, 73-72, on Jan. 2, 2011. The series has historically been close as all seven meetings between the two teams have been decided by eight points or less. LAST MEETING AGAINST FIU (FEB. 2, 2013) FIU rallied in the final minute for a 76-73 victory over ULM on Feb. 2 inside U.S. Century Bank Arena in Miami. The Warhawks led 73-71 following a transition layup from Amos Olatayo with just over a minute to play, but FIU responded with a three-point play by Malik Smith with 19 seconds remaining and a pair of free throws from Deric Hill with seven seconds remaining to earn the win. The Warhawks shot 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the field in the second half to overcome a six-point halftime deficit. Overall, ULM finished with its second best shooting performance of the season (58 percent). ULM had season highs in assists (20) and turnovers (25). Olatayo finished with a career-high 30 points and eight rebounds while playing all 40 minutes. He finished 12-of-18 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. It marked the first 30-point game by a ULM player since Tommie Sykes posted 32 points against Union College on Jan. 4, 2011. Jayon James finished just shy of a triple-double with 11 points, nine rebounds and a career-high 15 assists in 40 minutes. James 15 assists were the second most in school history and the most since Larry Saulters recorded 19 assists against Mississippi College during the 1969-70 season. It was also the most assists by a player in the Sun Belt this season and tied for the fifth most in the NCAA this season. Trent Mackey recorded 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting for the Warhawks. Mackey knocked in five 3-pointers on the night, including four straight in the second half. He finished 6-of-7 from the field after halftime. ULM KNOCKS OFF NORTH TEXAS FOR WIN 900 (FEB. 14) ULM rallied from a 15-point deficit in the second half to post an 85-73 victory over North Texas on Feb. 14, marking win No. 900 in program history. The win also marked a season sweep of the Mean Green as the Warhawks also won 81-68 in Denton on Jan. 5. ULM shot 63.3 percent from the field in the second half and outscored the Mean Green 52-31 after halftime. Amos Olatayo scored 22 points to lead four ULM players in double-digit scoring. Millaun Brown recorded a careerhigh 21 points and eight rebounds, Trent Mackey scored 18 point on 5-of-7 shooting from 3-point range and R.J. McCray chipped in 10 points and team-best six assists. JAMES HAS RECORD NIGHT AT FIU (FEB. 2) Jayon James came up just shy of a triple-double with 11 points, nine rebounds and a career-high 15 assists at FIU on Feb. 2. OLATAYO NAMED LSWA PLAYER OF THE WEEK (JAN. 14) Amos Olatayo was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Men s Basketball Player of the Week on Jan. 14. Olatayo is the first ULM player to earn LSWA honors since Lawrence Gilbert did so in 2010. Olatayo averaged 20.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in two games, including a career-high 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting against Middle Tennessee (Jan. 12). Olatayo scored 17 points in the second half against the Blue Raiders top-rated defense to help lead the Warhawks back from a 15-point deficit at halftime to within two midway through the second half. The Alief, Texas, native began the week with 17 points and eight rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench at Troy (Jan. 10). Cross brings a wealth of collegiate coaching experience to the Warhawks and a familiarity with Coach Richard. Cross served on Richard s staff at Louisiana Tech from 2003-06 and previously had head coaching stints at Chipola Junior College (1999-03) and Barton County Community College (1998-99). Cooper was a four-year starter and three-time All-Sun Belt performer for Louisiana Tech from 1995-99. As a senior, he earned first team All-Sun Belt honors and led the Bulldogs to the Sun Belt regular-season title in Richard s first season as head coach. He played 11 years professionally overseas and was part of eight championship teams during that stretch. ULM S APR ON THE RISE The ULM men s basketball team has shown significant improvement in its academic progress rate (APR) over the past two seasons and the NCAA has taken notice, announcing in March that the Warhawks would have all 13 scholarships available and be able to participate in postseason play for the 2012-13 season. ULM graduated three players last season, including Hugh Mingo, Christian Bibi Ndongo and Fabio Ribeiro. ULM will still be partially sanctioned this season as it will have two hours less practice time each week and will play 10 percent less games than the rest of the team s across the country. ULM PICKED FIFTH IN SUN BELT WEST DIVISION The ULM men s basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the Sun Belt West Division in a poll of the league s head coaches. North Texas was the unanimous pick to win the Sun Belt West Division with a total of 55 points. The Mean Green was followed in the standings by Arkansas State, UALR, UL-Lafayette and ULM. Defending regular-season champion Middle Tennessee garnered all 11 first place votes and a conference -best 65 points as the favorite to win the East Division of the Sun Belt. The Sooners finished with a 49-30 rebounding edge and outscored the Warhawks 42-26 in the paint and 16-6 in second-chance points to move to 1-0 on the season. ULM junior guard Amos Olatayo had a stellar performance in his debut with the Warhawks, netting a game-high and career-high 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field. Olatayo also had eight rebounds, three steals and one assist in 31 minutes. R.J. McCray added seven points for the Warhawks, while Millaun Brown and Jayon James each registered six points in their first game for ULM. James also finished with a team-high four assists. ULM hung tough early and led 11-10 on a layup from James with 12:14 remaining before halftime. But the Sooners answered with a 17-2 run -- spanning just over five minutes -- to build a 27-13 lead. The Bulldogs used a 21-0 run - spanning eight minutes - midway through the second half to build a 23-point advantage and cruise to its fifth straight victory. I thought Louisiana Tech wore us down (in the second half), ULM head coach Keith Richard said. The constant harassment and the constant pressure over the course of time finally wore us down and helped them build up a pretty big lead. Sophomore guard Trent Mackey came off the bench and netted a career-high 17 points to lead the Warhawks (0-2). Mackey finished 6 of 11 from the field and 3 of 5 from 3-point range to surpass his previous career high of 13 points, set twice last season. Junior guard R.J. McCray and junior forward Jayon James each finished with 10 points and four assists. Junior guard Amos Olatayo finished with a game-high nine rebounds to go along with seven points and three steals. Leading 36-34 early in the second half, Louisiana Tech (5-1) used a strong defensive effort during a 21-0 run that stretched the lead to 57-34 with 10:28 remaining. The Bulldogs used their quickness to force 13 steals and 21 turnovers in the game. ULM s 21 miscues were the most in a game since Nov. 16, 2010, when it had 26 against Iowa. The Warhawks trailed by as many as 23, but battled back to within as close as 63-51 with 4:20 to play. ULM had the ball on two occasions to cut into the lead even more, but Olatayo missed on 3-pointers on both trips. Mackey carried the Warhawk offense in the second half as he accounted for 11 of the team s 24 points in the half. ULM led for much of first half after sprinting out to an early 8-2 advantage. The Warhawks led by as many as seven (17-10) midway through the opening half before Louisiana Tech went on a 7-0 spurt to tie the game. The Trojans (6-3, 2-0 SBC) used a string of runs in the second half to wear down the Warhawks, who were playing with just nine scholarship players. The Trojans shot 50 percent and knocked in seven 3-pointers after halftime. ULM (0-4, 0-2 SBC) shot 38.9 percent for the game and struggled at the freethrow line, converting just 7 of 17. The victory snapped a 20-game home losing streak for the Warhawks, which dated back to Jan. 4, 2011. The Warhawks turned up the intensity on defense in the overtime period as Southeastern Louisiana managed just two points in the final five minutes. ULM scored the final seven points of the game - all from the free-throw line - to earn the victory. Junior guard R.J. McCray led the Warhawks with a career-high 17 points, while junior forward Jayon James finished just shy of a triple-double with 10 points, a career-high 12 rebounds and a career-best seven assists in 41 minutes. Junior guard Marcelis Hansberry added 16 points off the bench, while sophomore guard Trent Mackey scored all 14 of his points in the second half for ULM. ULM looked to be in control when McCray drained a jumper to give the Warhawks a 59-55 lead with 48 seconds remaining in regulation. However, Southeastern s Roosevelt Johnson scored on a dunk with 36 seconds left and Hansberry had his one-and-one at the free-throw line rim out giving the Lions a chance to tie the game or take the lead. Tucker Center. Sophomore guard Trent Mackey paced the Warhawks with a career-high 22 points on 8-of-18 shooting, including 6 of 12 from 3-point range. Mackey also had a career-best four steals and three assists in 39 minutes. Junior forward Jayon James reached double figures in rebounds for the third straight game with a career-high-tying 12 on Monday. James also had five of the Warhawks season-high 15 assists on the night. ULM hung tough until Florida State scored seven straight points to take a 54-40 lead with 5:49 to play in the game. ULM had rallied, keyed by some big shots from Mackey, to get within six at 41-35 at the 11:18 mark. The Warhawks pushed out to an early seven-point advantage and led for much of the half before Florida State surged to a 30-25 halftime lead. MONROE, La. -- South Alabama staved off a late ULM comeback attempt to pick up a 77-72 victory on Thursday inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The Jaguars shot 59.1 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Warhawks 39-15 for the game, but needed a clutch basket in the final minute to put away a gutsy performance by ULM. Junior guard Amos Olatayo came off the bench to score a team-high 18 points, including a pair of high-flying dunks for the Warhawks. Junior forward Millaun Brown chipped in a career-best 13 points and junior guard R.J. McCray added 10 points and five assists. Junior forward Jayon James finished with seven points, six assists and a careerhigh five steals but had his double-digit rebounding streak snapped at five. James finished 6-of-10 from the field and a season-best 7-of -8 from the freethrow line and recorded his fourth double-double of the season. It marked the Red Wolves 11th straight victory over the Warhawks in Jonesboro, dating back to Feb. 13, 1986. The Warhawks shot just 25 percent (6-of-24) in the second half and finished with their lowest point total of the season. Arkansas State heated up in the second half, shooting 48 percent (12-of-25) and outscoring ULM 34-14 after halftime. MONROE, La. -- Troy survived a late ULM comeback to pick up a 71-64 overtime victory over the Warhawks on Saturday inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum. The win was the second for the Trojans (9-12, 4-6 SBC) over the Warhawks this season and the eighth straight in the series dating back to 2007. Emil Jones scored eight of Troy s 14 points in overtime, including three crucial baskets as the Trojans took the lead on the first possession and never trailed in the period. Jones finished with 13 points, while Hunter Williams led the Trojans with 15 points. Our fight is there, there s no question about that, ULM head coach Keith Richard said. The Warhawks lost despite a career-high 25 point effort from junior Amos Olatayo. The Alief, Texas, native finished 11-of-18 from the field and also contributed seven rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks in 30 minutes. It marked Olatayo s second consecutive 20-point scoring game and his fifth of the season. The Warhawks (3-15, 2-10 SBC) shot 58 percent for the game -- including a blistering 70.4 percent in the second half -- and led by two points in the final minute before the Panthers (12-10, 7-6 SBC) rallied for the victory. With ULM leading 73-71, the Panthers Malik Smith converted a three-point play with 19 seconds remaining and Deric Hill came up with a timely steal and converted a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining to give FIU a threepoint advantage. Junior Jayon James had his game-tying 3-point attempt at the buzzer come up short as ULM dropped its seventh straight contest. The loss overshadowed a pair of monster performances for the Warhawks as junior Amos Olatayo finished with a career-high 30 points and eight rebounds while playing all 40 minutes. It marked the third straight game that Olatayo has scored 20-plus points and the sixth time this season. He becomes the first ULM player to score 30 points in a game since Tommie Sykes netted 32 against Union College on Jan. 4, 2011. James 15 assists were the second most in school history and the most since Larry Saulters recorded 19 assists against Mississippi College during the 1969-70 season. The Trojans shot 49 percent from the field and led by as many as 15 in the second half, but had to hold off a late comeback attempt from the Warhawks. Sophomore Trey Lindsey scored a career-high 18 points to lead ULM, including a 4-of-6 effort from beyond the 3-point line. Lindsey capped a 9-0 run for the Warhawks with his final 3-pointer of the night to cut the UALR lead to 61-58 with 1:55 remaining. The Trojans (15-10, 9-5 SBC) responded with a 3-pointer from Will Neighbour and a dunk from James White to push the lead to 66-58. UALR went 4-of-4 from the free-throw line down the stretch to finish off the victory. We responded much better and played harder and got some energy in the second half, ULM head coach Keith Richard said. That s what happens when you do those things. MONROE, La. -- Junior Millaun Brown recorded a career-high 21 points and ULM battled back from a 15-point second half deficit for a 85-73 victory over North Texas Thursday night inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum. It marked the second victory for the Warhawks over the Mean Green this season and ULM s 900th career victory. The Warhawks (4-17, 3-12 SBC) shot 63.3 percent in the second half and utilized a 32-8 run midway through the half to take control. Brown became the fourth different ULM player to score 20-plus points this season as he finished 9-of-10 from the field and pulled down eight rebounds.
