FOLLOW THE 100TH GIRO D ITALIA 2017 Follow the 100th Giro d Italia Celebrate the 100th edition of Italy s famed Giro d Italia with us! The 100 th Giro d Italia will happen in May 2017, 108 years after the first edition held in 1909, which was won by Luigi Ganna. Since then, the world has totally changed, but the essence of cycling is still there: effort, challenge, pride, and speed. You can be apart of this historic race, riding the same courses as some of the most epic heroes of cycling: Binda, Coppi, Bartali, Merckx, Bugno, Indurain and many others (ncluding the first American racer to win the Giro, Andy Hampsten, in 1988). P E D A L Y O U R P A S S I O N ITINERARY OUTLINE Trip Essence / Page 2 Daily Itinerary / Page 3-5 Arrival & Departure / Page 6 Bike Information / Page 6 Terms & Conditions / Page 7 Reserve Your Space! / Page 7 This trip is designed for intermediate and advanced cyclists who want to ride the Giro D Italia mountain passes and experience the terrain covered this year and in past years. We ve planned an exciting 9-day tour that consists of riding through some of the most scenic cycling destinations in Europe: Piedmont, the Lakes and the Dolomites. We ll meet up with the Giro d Italia on four stages in the last week of racing and get a chance to both watch and ride the route. Get ready for the ride of a lifetime! DAY 1 MONTEROTONDO DI GAVI Daily Mileage - 19 km/12 mi Riding Terrain - Undulated Hotel - Albergo l Ostelliere Location: Monterotondo di Gavi Duration: 2 nights http://www.villasparinaresort.it/ en/albergo Meals - L, D DAY 2 TORTONA Daily Mileage - 80 km/50 mi Elevation Gain - 950 m/3,117 ft. Riding Terrain - Undulated Benvenuto! We ll meet in the hotel lobby at 1:00 p.m. for lunch, introductions and an orientation to the trip. After a bike fitting, we ll take a short warm-up ride in the hills behind our lovely villa to the new Museo dei Campionissimi, an awesome exhibit of cycling memorabilia, pictures, and movies. Our ride for the afternoon will be approximately 12 miles. In the evening we ll have a scrumptious dinner at the hotel s restaurant, which allows us to savor the local and yummy delicacies: buon appetito! Ostelliere is a beautifully refined farmhouse dating back to the 17 th century, set on the property of one of the finest vineyards in the region, Villa Sparina. It mirrors the surrounding countryside in both its simplicity and in its careful preservation of the original rural architectural features. Today s ride is dedicated to Fausto Coppi, the greatest cycling champion Italy has ever seen. 65 years after his victories, his legacy lives on and thousands of people reach his hilltop village of Castellania in a sort of pilgrimage. Even if you re not interested in the history of cycling, you ll still enjoy this wonderful ride! Later in the day, we ll reach the city of Tortona to watch the sprint finish of stage 14 of the Giro d Italia. Hotel - See Day 1 DAY 3 OROPA Daily Mileage - 61 km/38 mi Elevation Gain - 1,200 m/3,937 ft. Hotel - San Rocco Location: Orta San Giulio Duration: 1 night http://www.hotelsanrocco.it/ index.php?pg=home&l=eng We ll start with a shuttle to the town of Biella (approximately one hour), which is at the foot of the Alps. From there, a gorgeous but challenging road will bring us to the Sanctuary of Oropa, where we ll see the finish of stage 15. The whole area is a natural wonder of mountains with chestnut trees abound. It is here where Marco Pantani became a legend with an unforgettable win in 1999. After our return to Biella, we ll move to our hotel in San Giulio on the shores of Lago d Orta, a lovely spot to rest and recharge. The 4-star Hotel San Rocco overlooks the shores of magical Orta. The rooms were entirely renovated and completely redesigned in early 2009, furnished with natural chic elements, made in Italy with a modern design. Most of them have a view of the lake, front or side, some with balcony or a terrace. Ciclismo Classico 1-800-866-7314 info@ciclismoclassico.com www.ciclismoclassico.com 3

We ll also alternate riding with a couple of ferry rides and eventually arrive in Bellagio for some relax time in our cozy hotel. The Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is one of the oldest and most elegant hotels in the Lake Como area and the only 5-star deluxe hotel in Bellagio. After a transfer to Bormio (approximately 2.5 hours), we ll climb the Passo Stelvio, the highest pass in the Italian Alps and a must for every passionate cyclist. It ll also be a great way to get excited about the big day tomorrow of The Giro, since we ll likely meet several other cycling fans along the way! We ll then head to the Dolomites, which we ll attack from the Costalunga Pass, a natural balcony that offers one of the most spectacular views of the area. The final descent into Canazei is a fun rollercoaster, a well deserved aspect of the ride after the most challenging day of the trip. Hotel Astoria represents one of the most renowned tourist destinations in the Dolomites, mostly because it s in a charming spot at the foot of the most beautiful peaks, just steps from Canazei center in Val di Fassa.
