The psitin starting date is June 1 fllwing the cnclusin f the secnd year f the term f the previus chair. A Chair-Elect will serve as secretary fr tw year term until becming Chair. CHAIR RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Serve as the facilitatr and advcate fr the sprt and the ther caches in the cnference. 2. Establish sprts meeting agendas in cnjunctin with the cmmissiner. 3. Reprt in full all decisins and deliberatins made at meetings t the cnference cmmissiner. 4. Facilitate the discussin & present ideas fr cnference schedules t the cmmissiner. 5. Crdinate with the cmmissiner the review and update the sprt regulatins. 6. Assist the cmmissiner s ffice in paperwrk required by cnference and natinal rganizatins. 7. Keep the sprt prtfli infrmed f current activities, as advcate in cnference meetings. 8. Appint cmmittees as necessary t assist in the presentatin f prpsals t the caches. 9. Crdinate selectin f cnference awards in accrdance with the NAIA deadline.
SECTION 1... FREQUENCY OF PLAY... NSAA (1) The maximum number f varsity games, cntests r playing dates an institutin may schedule is listed belw. The number f junir varsity r freshman games, cntests r playing dates scheduled during a given term cannt exceed the number f varsity games, cntests r playing dates scheduled during that term. Further, n student may cmpete in a sprt in an academic year in mre than the number f games, cntests r playing dates listed belw (this includes varsity, junir varsity, freshman, etc.), excluding NAIA-apprved pstseasn participatin. (2) Baseball - 55 cntests Basketball 30 games. A student wh participates in a varsity cntest and a junir varsity cntest, n the same day, and at the same lcatin, is cnsidered t have participated nly in ne game. A student is limited t participating in n mre than 40 games. Crss cuntry - 8 meets Ftball - 11 games, with a student limited t participating in n mre than 15 cntests. (This includes varsity, junir varsity, freshman games and scrimmages.) Glf - 14 matches/turnaments Sccer - 18 games played at any time during the sprt seasn. Three additinal dates t be played nly after the fall term has cncluded. The three additinal dates may be played nly during weekends and ther nnscheduled class dates, accrding t the academic calendar. Sftball - 28 dates Indr track and field - 10 meets cunted n the basis f an individual student s participatin in the meet. Outdr track and field - 10 meets r (12 meets if indr track is nt spnsred) cunted n the basis f an individual student s participatin in the meet. Vlleyball - 28 dates Wrestling - 20 dates *In the sprts f baseball, crss cuntry, glf, sccer, sftball, indr track, utdr track, vlleyball and wrestling, an institutin is allwed ne exhibitin cmpetitin per seasn. The cmpetitin must meet the definitin f an exhibitin under Article V, Sectin B, item 6 f the NAIA bylaws. The exhibitin cmpetitin will cunt as ne varsity game, cntest r playing date within the limits stated abve. *Exhibitin cmpetitin is nt allwed in the sprt f ftball. *Fr the sprt f basketball, an institutin is allwed ne r mre exhibitin cmpetitins per seasn s lng as the ttal number f games, exhibitins and scrimmages des nt exceed 32. Fr the sprt f basketball, an exhibitin cmpetitin will nt cunt as a varsity game.
SECTION 2... PRACTICE & COMPETITION... NSAA (1) Each sprt shall have a maximum 24-week practice and cmpetitin seasn established by each member institutin. Frequency f play, practice and scheduling plicies shall be applied nly during the perid f August 1 t May 15. Frequency f play, practice, and scheduling utside f this perid is gverned by each member institutin and will nt be regulated by the NAIA. There shall be n mre than three break perids during the 24 weeks. NAIA-apprved pstseasn participatin shall nt be cunted as part f the 24-week perid. A week is defined as Sunday (12:01 a.m.) thrugh Saturday (11:59 p.m.). Any practice r cmpetitin during this perid shall cnstitute ne f the 24 weeks permitted. EXCEPTION: Practice activities ccurring between the deadline fr the sprt s cmpletin f cnference, A.I.I. r unaffiliated gruping qualifying cmpetitin and the team s participatin in its final cntest in NAIA-apprved pstseasn shall nt cunt twards the team s 24-week seasn. Once teams are selected fr NAIA-apprved pstseasn, institutins nt selected fr the NAIA-apprved pstseasn must cease practice activities r cmply thereafter with the restrictins f the 24-week rule. Teams selected t participate in NAIA-apprved pstseasn must cunt all activities at the cnclusin f its pstseasn participatin. (2) Practice - Practice will be defined as fllws: An activity rganized and/r directed by an identified member f the caching staff f that sprt in which apprpriate equipment is used r instructin and/r evaluatin f the athlete takes place. CASEBOOK EXAMPLES Cnditining Apprved Ruling: Cnditining and weight-training activities that d nt utilize equipment assciated with a sprt will nt be cnsidered practice in that sprt. Activity Classes Apprved Ruling: A cllege activities class invlving the teaching f sprts skills that is pen t all students will nt be cnsidered practice. A cllege activities class invlving the teaching f sprt skills pen nly t invited students shall apply t the practice/cmpetitin seasn f that sprt. Alumni Games Seasn f Cmpetitin Apprved Ruling: An alumni cntest is cnsidered t be an in-huse event and shall be treated the same as an internal practice. SECTION 3... INDOOR & OUTDOOR NSAA TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS... NSAA A. Indr Track & Field Meet: The NSAA indr meet will be held the Saturday tw weeks prir t the indr natinal meet. Saturday field events will begin with the ple vault at 9:00 am, with running events t start at 11:00 am (hst time). We will nt have a hst schl fr the sprt f indr track and field. Duties such
as field event fficiating will be divided up equally amng the cmpeting schls by the NSAA Track & Field Chair if fficials therwise unavailable. a. The indr and utdr meets shall be cnducted in accrdance with the current NCAA Track and Field Guide unless deviatins appear in this manual and/r are apprved by the majrity f the caches. C. A starter, a recall starter and a referee shall be used fr the NSAA Indr and Outdr meets. D. Electrnic timing shall be used at the indr and utdr meets. a. In the event f timing system failure, nly Fully Autmatic Times in races f 200 meters r less (including hurdles) will be cnsidered fr meet recrds. Hand timed races fr distances abve 200 meters will be cnsidered fr recrds after applying prper autmatic timing adjustments as per the NCAA rulebk. E. The hst schl may specify the type f spikes and starting blck that may be used. SCORING: A. Tp six places in each individual event. 10-8-6-4-2-1 B. Tp six places in each relay. 10-8-6-4-2-1 C. 4 individuals in each event and 1 relay frm a schl may scre. D. In the event f a tie, pints frm the places invlved shall be equally divided between these cmpetitrs.
UNIFORMS: A. The athlete s meet tp may be any schl issue and must have schl identificatin; except fr relay events where all runners must have the same primary clr tp (may be a cmbinatin f speed suits and singlets). Any clr f tights and tights/shrts/pants cmbinatin may be wrn. Undershirts are nt a part f the unifrm and when wrn, d nt need t match nr d all relay members need t wear ne. ENTRIES: A. Number f entries: Each schl will receive fur autmatic entries per gender, per event B. Entries will cmpleted and submitted thrugh Direct Athletics C. Times submitted fr seeding must be times achieved in OPEN events (nt relay splits) during the current seasn. Hand held times shuld be submitted in tenths-fat times in 1/100ths. D. Entries shall be submitted by 12 pm CT n the Tuesday prir t the meet. a. Entries shuld be submitted thrugh Direct Athletics, r e-mailed t the timing/entry service. b. The entry list shall be psted by the timing/entry service by 10:00 am Wednesday prir t the meet. c. Final Scratches shuld be sent t the timing/entry service by 8:00 pm Wednesday prir t the meet. d. Heat sheets will be psted by 10:00 am Thursday mrning prir t the meet E. Caches may enter athletes in events with n entry mark. F. Relay Cards t be cmpleted fr Relay Events, hwever Caches d nt have t declare wh will be running n relays. G. Entry marks will be imprted manually by the cnf. chair/timing service based ff the submitted marks fr the NSAA weekly perfrmance list. If an athlete has nt cmpeted in an event r if the cach has nt submitted weekly results fr the NSAA perfrmance list, they will be entered as NH, NT, r ND fr that event. SCRATCHES: A. Final Scratches need t be made by 8:00 pm n the Wednesday prir t the meet. Frm this pint n the Hnest Effrt Rule will be in effect fr the NSAA Champinship Meet. B. Hnest Effrt rulings will be made by the games cmmittee and meet fficials C. Re-certificatin, in the event f a scratch, will take place in the fllwing manner: a. Any athlete scratching an event in which they are entered must be evaluated, in a timely fashin with respect t the start f the scratched event, by the Meet Trainer (as appinted by the games cmmittee). b. The Meet Trainer will diagnse the athlete and nte the diagnsis n the Athlete
c. Re-certificatin Frm. Re-certificatin is fficial nly after the Meet Trainer makes a secnd diagnsis and clears the athlete t participate. d. Athlete Re-certificatin Frms must be received by the Track and Field Chair prir t re-entry f cmpetitin. SEEDING AND LANE ASSIGNMENTS FOR RUNNING EVENTS: A. The meet directr will prvide a perfrmance list t the caches befre the cnference meet. Races run in timed sectins will use this list fr seeding purpses. B. In events with heats run against time, the fast heats will be cntested last. C. Wmen s events are t precede the men s D. Time limits, flights, flight rder, scring, and permissin t change perfrmance rder, will be established by the rulebk. Athletes may be excused fr a cnflicting running event, but must return immediately after the cnclusin f that event. The athlete may be mved t a different preliminary flight t avid cnflicts. During finals, ther finalist may chse t wait fr the return f an excused athlete befre taking their attempts. B. Prelims shall be pwer-seeded with the highest seeds participating in the final flight
C. The cmpetitrs may be arranged in flights nt larger than 12 and nt smaller than 5, withut cnsent f the games cmmittee. D. Prelims and finals will be held in lng jump, triple jump, sht put, discus, hammer and javelin with three attempts in in the prelims and three attempts in the finals. If there are 9 r less entrants, all having made a legal mark in the prelims will qualify fr the finals. E. The tp eight perfrmers in the preliminaries will qualify fr the finals. Order f cmpetitin will be last qualifying mark t best qualifying mark. F. In the event f a tie in bth qualifying and placing, the tie shall be brken with the next best mark. If the cmpetitrs are tied equally thrughut prelims and are tied fr the last qualifying spt fr finals, bth cmpetitrs will g t finals. G. All implements must be certified and marked n the day f cmpetitin f the event, prir t each event. 1. Implements must be weighed in during this set time. 2. The NSAA will check the fllwing minimum certificatins fr thrwing implements: a. Weigh in the Sht, Disc, Javelin and Hammer n a digital scale b. Measure length f the Hammers c. Measure length f the tip t center f gravity n Javelin H. Event sites and landing sectrs will be chsen by the referee and meet directr. I. Lifts in 5 cm in the high jump and 15 cm in the ple vault until the rulebk permits a change. The starting heights in the bar events will be determined by a three cach cmmittee. The cmmittee will be chsen alphabetically n a rtating basis. The Five Alive system will be used fr these tw events. NSAA meet directr will cntact the cmmittee t determine pening heights in the bar events. The cmmittee will be made up f three caches n a rtatinal basis, frm schls listed in alphabetical rder with nly ne cach rtating ff each year. Athletes must participate hnestly in all trials and finals f all track r field events in which they legally are declared r they shall be barred frm all remaining events in the current meet. Athletes must cmpete with maximum effrt and/r qualify frm trials int the finals. 2. SECTION 5... UNIFORMS... NSAA (1) In all cmpetitin, cmpetitrs must wear the prper unifrm f the institutin they represent in the champinships. All unifrms must allw cmpetitrs numbers t be placed abve the waist (frnt and back). All applicable rules as printed in the NCAA Track and Field Rule Bk shall be fllwed. Failure t cmply with this regulatin may jepardize the student-athletes' eligibility. SECTION 6... FACILITIES... NSAA (1) A representative frm the hst institutin shall greet and prvide infrmatin t the cach f the visiting team regarding dressing rm accmmdatins, what is available fr warm-up space, and any special arrangements such as pregame r between game ceremnies. SECTION 7...GAME MANAGEMENT... NSAA (1) Prvide water, ice, and an Athletic Trainer. The training rm facilities shall be made available t the visiting team. SECTION 8... AWARDS... NSAA Team Champins: A team champinship trphy will be given t the men s and wmen s team champins, prvided by the NSAA. Cach f the Year: The cach f the year will be vted n by head caches (written ballt) at the cnclusin f the meet. A simple majrity vte will decide the cnference cach f the year and will als be given a plaque prvided by the NSAA fr bth men s and wmen s. Perfrmers f the Year: One male and ne female student-athlete will be selected in bth Indr and Outdr Track & Field seasns, as the track athlete f the year and as the field athlete f the year by the pint ttal fllwing the cnclusin f each perspective meet and will receive a plaque frm the NSAA. All-Cnference: The champin in each individual event and members f the champinship relays will receive medals. The tp three perfrmers in individual events at the NSAA Champinship, as well as the tp tw in relay events, will be recgnized as All Cnference and receive a certificate. All Student-Athletes wh achieve a NAIA Natinal Qualifying mark during the year, but are nt All Cnference, will be recgnized as Hnurable Mentin. The NSAA will recgnize the tp perfrmer in all NAIA spnsred events, NOT held at the Cnference Meet (Racewalk, 1000, Marathn, etc.), as All-Cnference in that event These perfrmances must be reprted n TFRRS. They will nt be scred in the cnference meet Academic Achievement: Athletes with high academic achievement are hnured at the end f each term as NSAA Academic Hnr Schlars. Individual certificates are awarded t each athletes wh qualifies. (See Appendix G in the NSAA manual fr the qualificatin plicy fr this award.) Nrth Star Champins f Character Achievement Award: The athletes shuld have cntributed greatly t the success f their wn team and served as a rle mdel fr ther squad members. The Sprts Chair f each sprt is respnsible fr cnducting the selectin prcess. Only ne athlete is t be selected fr each award. Each schl shuld be given the pprtunity t nminate an athlete fr each award. The champins f character achievement award athlete must be in his r her final year f eligibility. All Caches shuld be given the pprtunity t vte by ranking all thse nminated in rder f preference. We will fllw the nminatin and vting prcedure as stated in the NSAA Sprts Infrmatin guidelines fr athlete f the week awards. SECTION 9... TRAINER/TRAINING ROOM SERVICES... NSAA (1) A certified Athletic Trainer must be available fr hsting meets and the training rm facilities f hst institutins shall be made available t visiting team. SECTION 10... NSAA PUBLICITY & STAT REPORTING... NSAA (1) The NSAA shall maintain a NSAA Sprts Infrmatin Directr and all releases regarding fficial business f the NSAA shall be released at the directin f the Cmmissiner and respective Sprts Infrmatin Directrs. Fr each Intra Cnference cntest, hst institutins shall have the respnsibility t file statistical reprts; fr each cntest with nn-cnference ppnents, the member institutin shall file the reprts. All reprts shall be filed immediately fllwing each cntest.
