The chance to combine leading world experts with the unique art treasures of Barcelona represents a valuable opportunity to allow people coming from all over the world to gather and exchange ideas. This will be a special conference held in the modern CCIB conference centre, an ideal location to participate to a very advanced scientific presentations combined with the largest exhibition of in vitro diagnostic products. EUROMEDLAB 2019 will cover all the scientific and technological aspects of Laboratory Medicine. We are expecting thousands of participants from all over the world and a great contribution from exhibitors. A well balanced programme of oral and poster presentations, and dedicated workshops, will guarantee an efficient exchange of ideas and allow productive discussions. Although the Congress is still 2 years away, the organization of the congress is already in a very advanced phase. I am certain that we will deliver a programme of high quality and interest containing innovative ideas and of direct relevance to modern laboratory medicine. The accompanying industrial exhibition will provide information and advice on the most up to date equipment, diagnostics, informatics and professional practice. These are exciting times in the world of laboratory medicine. Therefore, laboratory medicine specialists and the diagnostic industry have a responsibility to work together to convert data into knowledge which can be used to add value to patients health. I look forward to welcoming you in Barcelona

THE WELCOME MESSAGE Dear friends and colleagues, On behalf of the Spanish Society of Laboratory Medicine (SEQC ML) it is a great pleasure to invite you to the 23 rd IFCC-EFLM European Congress of Laboratory Medicine, from May 19th to May 23 rd 2019 in Barcelona. This meeting in the Mediterranean and wellconnected city of Barcelona will offer you a stimulating scientific programme covering the most recent scientific and technological advances in clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine combined with Europe s largest Commercial Exhibition of in-vitro diagnostic products. SEQC ML has always taken great pride in organising its congresses with an active participation of around 1000 delegates and the pleasing feature of a high number of young attendees. At present time, our Society, founded 40 years ago, has a total of 2565 members of which 335 are trainees in Laboratory Medicine. SEQC ML organises five Annual Educational Programmes with more than 2000 participants and an extensive EQAS programme distributed among 700 participating centres with a total of 5000 registrations. One of the main goals of our Society s Strategic Plan is to increase the presence of SEQC ML members in EFLM and IFCC groups and to establish strong relationships with the Latin-American Scientific Societies. EuroMedLab Barcelona 2019 will offer a 2 few days of intense activity and will provide participants with a wonderful opportunity to learn and hear from experts, to develop and strengthen relationships with peers, and to take home enjoyable and valuable memories. We sincerely hope to see you in Barcelona in May 2019 Best regards, Dr Imma Caballé Congress President

ORGANISING COMMITTEE José Queralto COMMITTEESCONGRESS Jaime Vives Maurizio Ferrari, Chair Imma Caballé, Congress President Eric Kilpatrick, SPC Chair Ralf Lichtinghagen Stefano Montalbetti Michael Neumaier James Wesenberg SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME COMMITTEE Eric Kilpatrick, Chair Sergio Bernardini Imma Caballé, Congress President Damien Gruson Sverre Sandberg Ian Young INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARD Andrea Griesmacher (Austria) Radivoj Jadric (Bosnia Herzegovina) Kamen Tzatchev (Bulgaria) Daria Pašalić (Croatia) Spyroula Christou (Cyprus) Richard Prusa (Czech Republic) Liisa Kuhi (Estonia) Anna Linko-Parvinen (Finland) Michel Vaubourdolle (France) Michael Vogeser (Germany) Katherina Psarra (Greece) Ajzner Éva (Hungary) Ingunn Thorsteinsdottir (Iceland) Marielle Kaplan (Israel) Giuseppe Lippi (Italy) Dalius Vitkus (Lithuania) Sonja Kuzmanovska (Macedonia) Robert de Jonge (Netherlands) Anne Lise Bjørke Monsen (Norway) Katarzyna Fischer (Poland) Henrique Reguengo (Portugal) Gustáv Kováč (Slovak Republic) Evgenija Homsak (Slovenia) Antonio Buño Soto (Spain) Mats Ohlson (Sweden) Michel F. Rossier (Switzerland) Dogan Yucel (Turkey) Maurice O Kane (United Kingdom) 4

Dear Colleagues, The Scientific Programme Committee of the 23 rd IFCC-EFLM European Congress of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine is delighted to be tasked with planning the scientific content for the conference. Although the meeting itself is still 2 years away, we have already been busy trying to ensure that it will meet your educational needs. It undoubtedly helps that we are blessed in having a venue which is ideally suited to our purpose. With a backdrop of the Barcelona coast, the modern CCIB conference centre allows us to organise parallel sessions that are physically next to one another, thereby meaning you will have the best chance of being able to catch the presentations that are most relevant to you. The Scientific Programme Committee has already met to start to formulate the topics and speakers which we hope will be of greatest interest, but in order to help make sure that we are catering for delegate needs we will also be guided by each of the EFLM s constituent national societies who have the opportunity to suggest symposia through the International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB). This ISAB first meets at EuroMedLab in Athens. We also plan to deliberately delay filling some sessions until closer to 2019 so that any hot topics that have arisen between now and then can be introduced at that stage. But EuroMedLab is not just about gaining knowledge from scientific sessions. We aim to have a programme which will also allow for opportunities to interact and learn from our work and industry colleagues. We look forward to meeting you in Barcelona. Best wishes, Professor Eric Kilpatrick Scientific Programme Committee Chair 5 THE SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME
