2016 2017 School Brochure

Welcome It is with great joy we announce the move into our historic new home, the CLARA (E. Claire Raley Studios for the Performing Arts) with six state of the art studios. The School of the Sacramento Ballet is dedicated to providing students with individual attention in a positive environment for the very best in classical ballet training with an emphasis on artistic expression. This spacious and beautiful facility allows us to expand our programs and class offerings, including our new Flex and Academy Tracks, as well as provide classes for dancers of all ages and levels in the community. With more studio space for classes and rehearsals the School will be able to produce our first student full length ballet next spring, Coppelia. Further, our new home will support the classes and rehearsals of our student ensemble, the Sacramento Ballet Youth Ensemble () performing group. These students will be participating in the Regional Dance America National Festival next spring in Phoenix, Arizona. The was described as the new jewel in the region after last year s festival. Carinne Binda School Director and Co-Artistic Director Sacramento Ballet Children s Division CLASS DESCRIPTION Tutu Toddlers (TTT) Creative Movement (CM) Pre-Ballet (Pre) Beginning Ballet I and II (BBI and BBII) Preparatory Ballet (Prep) Other Dance Disciplines Available Toddlers explore and develop their basic motor skills and coordination while cultivating rhythmic awareness and use of imagination with their participating adult. This class prepares them to move to the next level, Creative Movement. 18 months to 3.5 years old with adult participation Students continue to explore movement with increasing creativity and awareness of motor skills while beginning to incorporate basic ballet steps. 3.5 to 5 years old Students begin learning the fundamentals of ballet technique and terminology. This is an introductory class for students with no previous dance experience. Age 5 and older with evaluation Students continue to expand their knowledge of proper ballet placement through barre work and are introduced to beginning center work. These classes are for students with at least 1 year of pre-ballet training. Age 6 and older with evaluation The Preparatory Ballet curriculum focuses on musicality, vocabulary and further development of ballet class technique and etiquette. This unique class is designed as a bridge from the Children s Division to the Student Division. Age 7 and older with evaluation classes for Creative Movement/Pre-Ballet, Beginning Ballet I, II and Prep introduce fundamental tap steps through rhythm, musicality and the transformation of the dancer into a percussive instrument.

Student Division All curriculum at The School of the Sacramento Ballet focuses on developing technique, strength, discipline, self-confidence, and healthy living for every aspiration. Students are provided a graded syllabus at every level delivering excellent dance training of the highest quality. From beginner to pre-professional we inspire, educate and strive to develop the individual potential in each student instilling qualities for success. Intro to Ballet (Intro) Levels 1, 2, 3 Flex Track Levels 4, 5, 6 Academy Track Levels 4A, 5A, 6A and Sacramento Ballet Youth Ensemble () Men s Class Levels 4A, 5A, 6A and Other Dance Disciplines Available Lyrical Jazz Hip Hop Students learn basic barre and center work as well as ballet terminology in preparation for Level 1. This class is a beginning ballet class for students with no prior ballet training. Intro ages 8-12 Through a comprehensive curriculum that challenges students to strengthen technique through a progressive syllabus, students matriculate to the next level at an individual pace. It is not uncommon to spend more than one year in a level. Please note, boys in levels 1-3 take their own class (Boys Ballet 1, 2, 3). Flex Track Levels are designed to accommodate the specific needs of students whose extracurricular activities require a less demanding ballet schedule. Students will train under the same syllabus as the Academy Track but with a lighter class schedule. Recognizing students desire for additional class time and pursuit of a college degree or professional career in dance, the Academy Track and will provide the opportunity for students to train an increased number of hours, five to six days per week, including Saturday Rehearsals. Both the Academy Track and students will expand their technical development and further artistic expression through additional performance opportunities. Men s Ballet class is a supplement to the leveled ballet classes. These special classes focus on jumps, turns, athleticism, and building the strength necessary for the male dancer. class allows the students to explore dynamics, rhythm, and varying sounds. Lyrical engages the students emotions and expression through the lyrics of the music. Jazz is an upbeat and energetic class focusing on isolations, jumps and turns while including stretch and strengthening exercises. It is recommended that all students take an additional discipline Hip Hop classes combine jazz, funk and current dance styles. Sacramento Ballet Youth Ensemble () is a performing ensemble of students that will represent The School of the Sacramento Ballet at Regional Dance America/Pacific (RDA). The ensemble is chosen by an audition process. Members must exhibit exemplary technique, artistry, attendance and positive attitude. Participation incurs additional expenses for each student above and beyond regular tuition, and each student must sign a yearly agreement of commitment.
