BACTERIAL BULLY Jaryn Danz Meredith Volkman Karen Wong

INFECTION

One day on the playground, under the sun Sally was out, but not having fun. Andy the bully had found her that day Hey, Sally! he called, You wanna play? Before Sally could answer, Andy was there, wiping his boogers all over her hair. I don t want your cooties! Sally cried in disgust, As Andy ran off, leaving her in the dust.

At the end of the day, as Sally got back to her house, She gave a small sniffle, and sneezed on her blouse. "Dear Sally!" her mother cried with dismay, "You're ill, my dear! Get in bed right away!" Sally listened and slept, getting better and better, And when the next morning came, she put on her sweater.

That day on the playground she happened to see That Andy and friends were there by the tree. They noticed her too and came over to say That she should've stayed home on that certain spring day. "Why is that, Andy?" she asked with a glare. "Because, little Sally, I don't want to share. This is my playground, I don't care what you say. I'm happy without you; go on, go away." "Make me," said Sally, standing her ground The other kids all heard her and gathered around.

SURFACE DEFENSE

Eddie Dermis was the first of the kids to come near. "Why don't you leave, Andy? You don't even go here!" He stretched out his arms and said to the crew "Make Sally leave, and I'm leaving here too!" "Fine with me," sneered Andy, not annoyed in the least "Every kid in my crew is a pretty tough beast." Andy chose one of his lackeys to fight Vicky Virus ran at him with all of her might But Eddie and Vicky weren t evenly matched. Vicky bounced off of him; into the bushes she crashed.

Next came Harry and Ned, the identical twins. Underneath their noses, they had identical grins. But not to be beat, Andy also had more. Gerry Germ and Polly Prion stepped up to make four. Ned was called The Nose for a reason, y know. No one stood too close when it started to blow. Harry s name was also a warning of sorts. Hair even grew out of the back of his shorts. So when it all came down to two versus two, Harry and Ned knew just what to do. Ned sucked in some air and he sneezed a great sneeze, And Gerry found himself glued to the trees. But don t forget Harry, cause he s quite the threat; He wound his hair round Polly just like a net.

NON-SPECIFIC DEFENSE

Meanwhile Sally was watching wide-eyed, Wondering who next would fight by her side. Her next valiant savior, her friend Phil Phagocyte Was ready to hug them all very tight. Phil s approach to the conflict was different and strange; He didn t want violence, he just wanted some change. So he told Franny Fungus they weren t going to brawl, They were going to hug, like friends. That s all. But that kind of thing wasn t Franny s style. She wanted to fight, to make it worthwhile. So Phil grabbed her up into a tight, tight embrace, And Franny started to make a weird face. Sally chose to call that a win And she let out her most gigantic grin.

But all was not over, as she had assumed. Andy still had some lackeys, and the fighting resumed. Next up on her side was Ian Flammation, Who was quite the big guy, to Andy s frustration. Henry Helminth was next to join in, And he was bound and determined he was going to win. But compared to Ian, he was looking quite small. Do you even lift, bro? asked Ian. At all? Henry knew right then and there he was done. He turned and ran knowing there d be no more fun.

SPECIFIC DEFENSE

It was almost down to just Andy and Sally, But they both had someone left to make a finale. Andy s friend s name was Carl Contagion. He d caused fevers on more than one occasion. Sally s friends were Tom, Tim, and Bob. And they were more than capable of doing the job. Tom, who s in charge, told Tim to go fight, He told Carl STOP and waited to see But Tim didn t want to - it just wasn t right. What effect, if any, there might happen to be. Not to be phased, Carl let out a snicker. Is that all you ve got? You ll have to be slicker. "Carl, I don't want to hurt you, I just want this to end," Tim held his hand out to Carl like a good friend. Carl was truly shocked at this sight He said, "I'm sorry Tim, you're totally right." Together they walked away from the playground Not wanting to be there when the end came around.

"Whatever," Andy shouted, "I can fight too. I can take you guys on even without my crew!" But Tom and Bob had a secret Andy didn't see through Tom whispered to Bob, "You know what to do." Bob looked to the sky and yelled "It is time!" Overcome with fear, Andy let out a whine. Suddenly, coming from every possible place Were young children, filling every open space. They took over the park and Andy began To worry about his wonderful plan. The children came closer and Andy was down Because he wasn't any longer king of the playground. They hoisted him up and carried him off. "I'm sorry!" he called, but Sally just scoffed. All was right in the world, and the day had ended. Sally had great friends on which she depended.

As Sally stood there, happily reflecting, Something happened she wasn't expecting. One of Bob's children, a young little lady, Tugged on her sleeve and called herself Katie. "Eat your soup," she said, to Sally's confusion. She was sure that it was an illusion. "Eat your soup," she repeated once more. But she didn't look the same as before. Sally's mother was standing over her bed, Giving her food, offering bread. "Was it all just a dream?" Sally asked with a sigh. "Maybe," said Mom. "But you're sad, my dear. Why?" "I had wonderful friends," said Sally. "They're great! I need to go meet them! Right now! Can't wait!"

"Just one minute, my dear," her mom said. "There's a reason you're stuck in your bed. Are you feeling better, or worse than before? I can't let you go outside that door." "Yes, mommy, I swear!" Sally proclaimed. "Thanks to my friends, my illness was tamed!"
