Guide t Rutine Cnstructin fr NAIGC Men s Rules 2014-2015 Summary: On all events, NAIGC uses the 2013-2016 FIG Cde f Pints as mdified by the 2014 NAIGC Rules and Interpretatins. The 2013 FIG Cde f Pints is available here. NAIGC exceptins t the Cde f Pints appear in red. This dcument gives an verview f the parts f the FIG cde that are especially relevant t NAIGC cmpetitins. It is intended as reference fr cmpsing cmpetitin rutines and is thus nt fficial. In the case f discrepancies between this dcument and the FIG r NAIGC Rules and Interpretatins, defer t the latter tw dcuments. Please email the men s rules spkespersn at timthy.michaels@naigc.rg A gymnast's final scre is cmpsed f the difficulty scre (D scre) and executin scre (E scre) minus any neutral deductins. The minimum final scre n any event is 1.0. I. D Scre The D scre is cmpsed f the ttal difficulty f the rutine, the number f element grups shwn, and any bnus awarded. Skill Difficulty: Each skill (r element) has a difficulty value represented by the letters A thrugh G: Fr each: A B C D E F G Value: 0.1 0.2 0.3 0.4 0.5 0.6 0.7 On each event, a gymnast must perfrm a minimum f seven skills. A maximum f ten skills will be cunted twards the D scre. Unless therwise allwed, a gymnast generally may nt repeat a skill fr difficulty value; a repeated skill will receive n credit and n deductin. Element Grups: The Cde f Pints grups similar skills int categries, r Element Grups, n each event. Except fr vault, each Element Grup is wrth 0.5 fr a ttal f 2.5 n each event. Perfrming a skill f any value frm that Element Grup will earn credit fr that Element Grup except the Dismunt Element Grup: a C-value dismunt earns 0.5, a B r A-value dismunt earns 0.3, and a dismunt f n value earns 0.0 The Element Grups fr each event are listed belw:

A skill can fulfill nly ne Element Grup requirement: if a gymnast des a back layut with 2/1 twists as the dismunt, then that skill satisfies the Dismunt Element Grup but nt Element Grup III (Backward acrbatic skills), and the gymnast must d an additinal skill frm Element Grup III (such as a back layut earlier in the rutine) t satisfy Element Grup III. A gymnast may nly receive credit fr fur skills frm each element grup, cunting the highest valued skills first. Any skills beynd the fur highest cunting skills will nt be recgnized. Cnnectin Bnus On flr and high bar, sme skills in direct successin are eligible fr cnnectin bnus. See each event belw fr full details. II. E Scre Judges take deductins fr technical, frm, r ther executin errrs ut f a maximum 10.0 E-scre. Small deductins are 0.1; medium deductins are 0.3; large deductins are 0.5: and a fall r supprting a landing with ne r tw hands is 1.0. The FIG Cde f Pints lists all f the deductins that can be taken. Shrt rutine rule: If a gymnast perfrms a rutine with fewer than seven recgnized elements, then the gymnast's maximum E-scre is reduced using the fllwing table Number f Elements 5-6 6.0 3-4 4.0 1-2 2.0 Maximum E scre III. Neutral Deductins Judges take neutral deductins fr landing ut f bunds n Flr r Vault, exceeding 70 secnds n Flr, taking an additinal run after balking n Vault, and s frth. These deductins are listed in the FIG Cde f Pints. IV. Event-Specific Rules General There are n unifrm deductins in NAIGC. The judge, hwever, shuld nt allw the gymnast t begin his rutine if his attire is unsafe (e.g., excessively baggy clthing, jewelry). If a gymnast des nt perfrm a dismunt but lands intentinally n his feet, n deductin fr a fall will be taken. (Fr example, if a gymnast perfrms a rutine n Rings and cannt perfrm a dismunt because he is injured r therwise unable t d a dismunt, then he will nt incur a deductin fr a fall if he just drps nt his feet at the end f the rutine.) Empty r Intermediate Swings are defined t be swings at the end f which n element is perfrmed r n new supprt, hang psitin, r grip psitin is achieved. A half empty swing (ne change f directin) receives a 0.3 deductin frm the E-scre. A full empty swing (tw changes f directin) receives a 0.5 deductin. On rings, a layaway frm supprt t frnt swing that is nt initiated frm a strength hld r handstand On rings, Straddle L sit, lift legs directly t L sit. On high bar, kip cast t layaway back giant The single exceptin t the abve rule is n high bar at the beginning f the exercise. See the high bar sectin belw fr a full explanatin. Cnsistent with the rule against repeating elements fr difficulty credit, a gymnast cannt repeat the 'base skill' fr any f the NAIGC-specific skills Example: A gymnast perfrms a C-value Stutz t handstand and a B-value Stutz t 45 degrees. Only the C-value Stutz cunts (because f its higher value), and n credit fr the B-value Stutz. Flr Exercise A gymnast may use ne landing mat f up t 10 cm (4") fr landing any value skill. The gymnast may nt, hwever, use the mat t rebund r punch frm, and the mat must remain in place thrughut the rutine. Rebunding frm the mat and mving the mat during the rutine are separate 0.5 apparatus deductins. A gymnast wh uses the same diagnal fr tumbling passes mre than tw times in successin will incur a 0.3 deductin each additinal time. Rllut skills and skills t frnt supprt: A maximum f 1 rllut salt may be perfrmed in a rutine. A gymnast may therefre use ne f the fllwing cmbinatins: 1. 1 salt rllut element and (a) 1 nn-salt element finishing in frnt supprt, (b) 1 nn-salt rllut element, r (c) 1 salt element finishing in frnt supprt; r 2. 1 salt rllut element and 1 nn-salt rllut element finishing in frnt supprt; r 3. 2 nn-salt rllut elements r 2 nn-salt elements finishing in frnt supprt. Salt rllut skills in cnnectin: A salt rllut element may n lnger be directly cnnected t anther salt element. If it is, the salt rllut element will nt receive difficulty credit and will incur a 0.5 deductin each time. Maximum number f rllut and frnt supprt elements: If a gymnast perfrms mre than 2 rllut elements r elements finishing in frnt supprt in a rutine, then the third (and each subsequent) element will nt receive difficulty credit and will incur a 0.3 deductin. Beware: a jump t frnt supprt / prne (where the feet leave the flr) cunts twards this limitatin; a fall t frnt supprt / prne (where the feet d nt leave the flr) des nt cunt twards this limitatin. Time Limits: A flr rutine is limited t 70 secnds. A timer will be present and will give a warning at 60 secnds. Exceeded the alltted time is a neutral deductin. Cnnectin Bnus: A D-r-higher acrbatic skill directly cnnected t an A, B, r C-value acrbatic skill (r vice versa) will receive +0.1 in cnnectin bnus, and a D-r-higher value acrbatic skill cnnected t a D-r-higher value acrbatic skill will receive +0.2 in cnnectin bnus. Cnnectin bnus can nly be awarded n ne side f a skill. Fr example a frnt layut (B) t frnt duble full (D) t frnt tuck (A) will nly receive +0.1 in cnnectin bnus.
Pmmel Hrse Dismunts that d nt g t handstand (e.g., Russians, Schwabenflank) must pass ver the hrse at 30 degrees abve hrizntal t avid a deductin. A circle t handstand n Pmmel Hrse receives a B frm the FIG cde f pints. T receive a C dismunt thrugh handstand, a gymnast must perfrm either a 3/3 travel in handstand, a piruette f 450 r mre r enter frm a stckli r ne pmmel circle. Perfrming any tw f the abve gives a D value dismunt and perfrming all three gives an E. Still Rings A rutine cannt include mre than three skills frm Element Grups III and/r IV in direct successin. The furth (and each subsequent) element frm Element Grups III and/r IV will be cnsidered repetitin and will nt be recgnized. T break a sequence after three Element Grup III and/r IV elements have been perfrmed, the gymnast must perfrm any B-r-higher value swing element except any kind f kip r back kip. Example #1: Backuprise crss, pull t L, press handstand, backuprise straddle planche. C + C + B + nn-recgnitin (because the backuprise straddle planche is the furth skill frm Element Grups III and IV). Example #2: Backuprise crss, pull t L, press handstand, Hnma (piked) t L, straddle planche. C + C + B + B + B. The straddle planche (an Element Grup IV skill) is recgnized because the Hnma (piked) t L is a B-value skill frm Element Grup I that breaks the sequence. Example #3: Same as Example #2, except suppse that the Hnma (piked) t L is nt recgnized because f an errr. The straddle planche will nt be recgnized because the Hnma was nt recgnized and thus did nt break the sequence. Example #4: Backuprise crss, lwer t hang, frnt lever, back lever, kip L, lwer t crss, pull t L, press handstand. C + nn-skill + A + A + B; the last three elements (lwer t crss, pull t L, press handstand) are nt recgnized because a kip des nt break the sequence, and these elements are the furth, fifth, and sixth skills frm Element Grups III and IV. Example #5: Same as Example #4, except that the gymnast perfrms a frntuprise L instead f the kip L. C + A + A + B + B + C + B. The last three elements are nw recgnized because a frntuprise L des break the sequence, which makes the lwer t crss the first in a new sequence f skills frm Element Grups III and IV. Example #6: Straddle L, straddle planche, straddle L, press handstand. A + B + repetitin + nn-recgnitin. Even thugh the secnd straddle planche is repetitin, it still cunts in the sequence f Element Grup III and IV skills, making the press handstand the furth skill in the sequence. Example #7: Back uprise crss, inlcate, back uprise straddle planche, L, press handstand. C + A +C + A + B. Even thugh the inlcate is nt a B, it breaks up the direct successin f the Grup III and Grup IV skills and the cunt starts ver with the back uprise straddle planche. A B swing element is required nly after three Grup III/Grup IV elements have been perfrmed.
A gymnast may perfrm a maximum f 2 Guczghy and 2 Li Ning-type elements in a rutine. The third (and each subsequent) element f each type will nt be recgnized and will incur a 0.3 deductin. Vault Gymnasts may perfrm rund-ff entry vaults frm Grups III, IV, and V withut restrictin. A hand mat and safety cllar are required. Parallel Bars A glide kip fllwing an element in hang must be executed with straight legs. Example: A glide kip fllwing a giant, Bhavsar, etc., must have straight legs. NAIGC Skill values: A gymnast may perfrm a basket (peach) r giant with straight arms t supprt lwer than 45 degrees fr B value and Element Grup IV credit. N FIG deductins fr angular deviatin will be taken; nly general executin deductins apply. A Stutz t 45 degrees abve hrizntal receives B value and Element Grup I credit. FIG deductins fr angular deviatin apply. A frward r backward salt tucked dismunt will receive A value and partial (0.3) Element Grup V credit. Hrizntal Bar At the start f the rutine, a gymnast may perfrm up t a maximum f five frward and backward bdy mvements, f which the 5th mvement must be a skill (e.g., stemme, free hip, stalder, etc.). The gymnast may include a back uprise actin, even t partial supprt, up t r n the 4th mvement withut deductin. Any C-r-higher Element Grup II skill may be repeated nce in direct cnnectin t itself r anther C-r-higher Element Grup II skill. If nt perfrmed in direct cnnectin, nrmal repetitin rules apply. Example #1: Tkatchev straddled + Tkatchev straddled. C + C (with +0.1 cnnectin bnus). Example #2: Tkatchev straddled, giant, Tkatchev straddled + Gienger. C, A, C + C (with + 0.1 cnnectin bnus). Example #3: Tkatchev straddled, giant, Tkatchev straddled. C, A, repetitin with n credit. Upn catching an Element Grup II skill, the gymnast may perfrm a swing with a half turn and change f grip n the subsequent swing frward t a kip withut deductin. Maximum number f Adler ("jam") skills: A maximum f 2 Adler ("jam") thrugh handstand skills are permitted. The third (and each subsequent) Adler thrugh handstand skill will nt be recgnized and will incur a 0.3 deductin. NAIGC skill values: An elgrip hp t undergrip that ges ver the bar receives A value and Element Grup IV credit as lng as the gymnast cmpletes the giant afterwards; this includes elgrip hp t piruette.
Example: 1/1 turn t duble elgrip, swing thrugh the bttm, hp t undergrip at the tp, and cntinue thrugh an undergrip giant. C fr the 1/1 turn t duble elgrip; A and Element Grup IV credit fr the hp t undergrip. Fr Adler ( jam ) skills in Element Grup IV, the fllwing values will be used.
