Since joining the club for the 2013 season, Porter has compiled one of the league s top winning percentages among active coaches with a record of 60-46-49, while leading the Timbers to their first MLS Cup title in 2015, two Western Conference Championship appearances and double-digit victory totals in each of his first four seasons. During his tenure, the Timbers have qualified for CONCACAF Champions League twice (2014-15, 2016-17), finished in the top three in the Western Conference twice and made their deepest run in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, reaching the semifinals in 2013. Porter coached in his 100th game as an MLS coach against eal Salt Lake on Oct. 14, 2015, posting a record of 39-25-36 in those games, which tied Dominic Kinnear for the fewest losses (25) in MLS history in a coach s first 100 career games. In addition, his.570 winning percentage during that span ranked fourth among then-active coaches through their first 100 games, behind the Bruce Arena (62-37-1,.625), Sigi Schmid (52-33-15,.595) and Kinnear (40-25-35,.575). Ending the 2015 campaign with a nine-game unbeaten run across all competitions, the Timbers lifted their first MLS Cup trophy with a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew SC on Dec. 6, 2015. Portland finished the regular season with an MLS-club-record 15 wins, while also tying for the league lead in shutouts (13). On the road, the Timbers finished the 2015 season tied for the most road wins (7) in the league. Porter, who led the Timbers to a club-record 12 home victories in 2016, is a two-time recipient of the Oregon Sports Awards Slats Gill Award for Sportsperson of the Year (2013, 2015), becoming the fourth soccer-related figure to receive the honor since it was founded in 1957. On Aug. 6, 2014, Porter helped guide the MLS All-Stars to a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game at Providence Park. In his first season with the club, Porter was named the 2013 MLS Coach of the Year after assembling one of the biggest turnaround seasons in league history, guiding the Timbers to a 23-point improvement and a plus-43 goal-differential increase over the previous season. The 2013 club finished atop the Western Conference to secure its first MLS playoff berth and posted a league-best 15 shutouts, including a league-record 11 clean sheets at home. Prior to joining the Timbers, Porter, who holds a U.S. Soccer Federation A license, was one of the most successful coaches in NCAA history during his tenure as head coach at the University of Akron (2006-12). He compiled a career mark of 123-18-17 and was named 2009 NSCAA National Coach of the Year. Porter led the Zips to back-to-back NCAA College Cup appearances (2009, 2010) and the school s first national title in any sport in 2010. Porter s coaching career also includes time as the head coach of the U.S. U-23 Men s National Team during 2012 CONCACAF Olympic qualifying and three years as an assistant coach on the U.S. U-18 National Team (2009-11). Porter was an assistant coach for six years (2000-05) at Indiana University, winning two national championships with the Hoosiers. Porter graduated from Indiana in 1998 with a degree in sports management. He and his wife, Andrea, have three children two sons, Colin (8) and Jake (6), and a daughter, Stella (5).

PEVIOUS MATCH - POTLAND TIMBES AT SPOTING KANSAS CITY (T 1-1) MATCH ECAP Behind a first-half goal from Diego Valeri, the Portland Timbers earned a point on the road with a 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City in front of 18,707 fans Saturday evening at Children s Mercy Park. BOX SCOE Creating a turnover near midfield, Sebastián Blanco helped start the Portland (7-7-5, 26pts) counter attack, springing Valeri into space with a quick pass. Surging forward on the dribble, Valeri delivered a powerful strike from distance to put Portland in front 1-0 in the 26th minute. The goal was Valeri s fourth in the last six matches, and his team-leading 10th goal of the season. Portland limited Sporting Kansas City s chances, surrendering just one shot on target in the match. The Timbers allowed just two shots in the first half, while holding Sporting Kansas City without a shot for more than 40 minutes. Sporting Kansas City (8-4-7, 31pts) leveled the match in the 60th minute behind a goal from Daniel Salloi, but the Timbers, who finished the match with a 9-7 edge in shots, created several opportunities in the second half to claim the go-ahead goal. eceiving a pass near the penalty spot, forward Fanendo Adi laid the ball off for Darren Mattocks, who fired a shot from inside the box just over the crossbar. The Timbers nearly reclaimed the lead in the 73rd minute when Adi earned a penalty kick after he was taken down inside the box by Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Tim Melia, but Valeri s attempt from the penalty spot was saved. On the ensuing corner kick, Blanco played it short to Ben Zemanski, who swung in a cross from the left flank to the back post. Defender Lawrence Olum was able to find space inside the box and get on the end of the cross, sending a diving header just over the bar. Facing a quick turnaround, the Timbers return to the ose City to play host to the Chicago Fire on Wednesday, July 5, at Providence Park. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), the July 5 match will be broadcast live on PDX TV (KPDX) with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish). NOTES Diego Valeri recorded his 10th goal of the season, becoming the seventh player in MLS to reach double-digit goals in 2017. Valeri s 10 finishes rank tied as the fourth-most in MLS this season. Valeri has now tallied double-digit goals in four of his five seasons with Portland. Additionally, Valeri is one of three players (David Villa, David Accam) in the league this season to have registered double-digit goals and at least five assists. Valeri is one of two active players to have at least 10 goals in four of the last five seasons, along with San Jose s Chris Wondolowski. Darlington Nagbe finished the game with 100 percent passing on his 52 attempts. Nagbe is the sixth MLS player in the Opta era (2010-) to complete 100 percent of his passes while attempting at least 52 passes. Sebastián Blanco recorded his fourth assist of the season in the match. Sporting Kansas City finished the match with one shot on goal. That is the fewest given up by the Timbers in a road match since the 2014 season and ties for the fewest shots-on-goal allowed by Portland in any MLS game. Obviously disappointed not to get the three points. If we scored the penalty kick or get the tap in on the cross we get out of here with three points. We wanted to come in this game and execute and I thought we did. With the exception of a few moments, I thought it was a very well-played match against a very good team in a difficult place to play. It s something we can build on and we still need to clean up a few things. But, overall, performance, mentality, even the unity and mental toughness that we showed was all there. On breaking through the Sporting KC defense We wanted to play a combination of high pressure and low pressure, and I thought we gave them a lot of problems early in the game by pressing high and disrupting their build up. Once they broke it, we let them come forward and we were going to look to play on the counter and the goal that happened came on kind of a quick transition where we won the ball, broke the lines, and obviously (Diego) Valeri had a great strike on that goal and we should ve scored a couple others. But, in any match like this where you have two evenly matched teams and two organized teams, it became a bit of a chess match and the chances were few and far between. They really only had three clear chances. The goal, Ike Opara header off the set piece and then you d say (oger) Espinoza s shot from distance were the only three real clear chances they had on the day. So, we defended really well and I thought we picked our moments to keep the ball and press.
