Inward and Outward Passage Plan For the River Tay within the Port of Dundee Pilotage Area. This plan has been prepared with the co-operation of personel from The Association of Dundee Pilots and Forth Ports Limited. Not to be used for navigation. For compulsory pilotage areas see Pilotage Direction No.3. The Compulsory pilotage areas on the Firth of Tay extend from an eastern seaward limit delineated by a line extending from: 56 29 N 2 38 W and southwards to its intersection with the line of latitude 56 26 N. Then west wards on the north side on 56 29 n to the line of MHWS at Buddon Ness thereof westwards on the north side of the River Tay past Dundee along the line of MHWS to the rivulet called Burnmouth of Invergowrie. Westwards on the south side of the River Tay past Dundee to the place where the Monastery of Balmerino was situated. The western limit is defined as a line drawn from the aforementioned limit on the north of the river to the southern limit. Ships exempted from compulsory pilotage are; a) All ships of less than 40meters in length; b) All fishing boats and sailing yachts with a registered length of less than 47.5m c) All ships under control of a competent person who is in possession of a valid Pilotage Exemption Certificate; d) All ships engaged in the maintenance of navigation aids e) All ships engaged in dredging operations; f) H.M Naval vessels. 4 P a g e F o r t h P o r t s L T D

NOT FOR NAVIGATIONAL USE. Port of Dundee Report to Dundee Harbour at Fairway Buoy. (VHF 12) At the Horseshoe Buoy, the tide runs 270 (T) on the flood and 090(T) on the ebb, but a south-easterly set may be experienced on strong ebb tides. Lady Buoy. (VHF 12) Outer channel from Fairway to Abertay buoys will run into the river 250 (T) on the flood tide and 030 (T) 269 T 089 T 5.6 NM Report to Dundee Harbour at Newcome Buoy. (VHF 12) Inbound only Speed limit of 8 knots over the ground when passing west of Newcome Buoy. A northerly set will be experienced between the Lady and Pool Buoys during a flood tide. In Buddon Bay a northerly set will be experienced on the flood tide setting 290 (T), ebb tide will set 090 (T) out of the river. Report to Dundee Harbour at Abertay Buoy. NOT FOR NAVIGATIONAL USE. Flood tide across the road bridge to the North, Ebb tide flows across the road bridge to the south. Maximum Air Draft for the bridges is 22m. Both Flood and Ebb Tides flow straight through the rail bridge. Bridge. (VHF 12) Outbound on clearing Road Bridge. Bridge. (VHF 12) Inbound only Pilot Disembarks at Balmerino. Bridge.
