Senior Rugby Come and join us College Rifles Bringing sport and community together

A warm welcome College Rifles is an exceptional Club, with many excellent sporting teams, coaches and facilities. We are always looking to recruit talented players for our Senior Rugby team, and would welcome the opportunity to discuss your potential move to the Club. College Rifles has been awarded the Silver Football by the Auckland Rugby Union on three occasions, recently picking up this prestigious award in 2017. We have also been runners-up twice, and third once in the last few years. This award goes to the club that generates the most championship points over all grades during the course of a season. If you re interested in joining one of our Senior Rugby teams, then please give me a call on 09 520 3201 or 021 361 440. For further information on College Rifles visit our website at www.collegerifles.co.nz Chris Tautiaga, Director of Rugby, College Rifles Rugby and Sports Club

College Rifles levels and grades There is opportunity to play at whatever level you desire as the Club fields at least one team (sometimes two) in each grade of Auckland Rugby: Premier level Join this team which in the last couple of seasons has featured in the Gallaher Shield Cup Semi Finals (Top 4). The Premier is the flagship team for our club and the goal each season is to compete at the highest level. The team currently holds the Sir Fred Allen Challenge Cup which is the Ranfurly Shield of Auckland Club Rugby. The 2017 season witnessed a large number of Premier players go onto represent at Provincial and National levels in large numbers. Premier Development level This side has produced top four finishes in the past few seasons and provides strong support for the Premier team by being the feeder team, providing fit and capable players as required. Open Under 20 and Under 22 grades These grades have been confirmed for 2018 and are primarily designed for young men who have just left secondary school and wish to grow and develop their rugby skills. Ages range from 17 to 20 years for our Under 20s team. Rifles has been prominent in the competition with two championships, three semifinals and top 4 finishes in the last few seasons. These grades perform an important role as the nursery for Premier players of the future and many sample Premier rugby during their tenure at this level.

Women s rugby The Women s Premier Team, the Thunderbirds as they are known, has produced strong sides over the years and has been one of the most successful teams reaching Cup Finals every season for the last 5 years. Our development is crucial for our Women s programme and having our feeder team the Falcons compete in the Development Women s Grade bolsters both teams. Under 85kg Open Restricted grade Rifles has, over the years, been regarded as a powerhouse in this grade within Auckland Rugby. Rifles teams have won five championships and have been runners up on many occasions in that time. We are looking to add to this legacy with our restricted programme in 2018. First grade This grade is made up of those who have played at a top level but now wish to enjoy their rugby at a more leisurely pace. The rugby is still of a good standard, and this side has been highly placed in the competition over the years President s grade For those whose competitive playing days are over but who want to enjoy the comradeship, we have a very well organised team for the over 35s who relish a Saturday or Friday night gallop and after-match entertainment. Coaches The club s philosophy is to develop coaches to succeed in the same way as we develop players. They receive the full support of our Rugby Director off-field and plans are afoot to have coaching clinics held at the club. College Rifles on tour In 2017, Premier, Premier Development and U20s players undertook a tour of Canada. The club uses these tours to reward player achievements and loyalty and to promote esprit de corps amongst team members. There have been a number of such tours in recent years including visits to Europe, Hawaii and Argentina. Another tour ( details TBC ) is planned for 2018.

Club facilities College Rifles offers a high standard when it comes to playing, training and support facilities, providing the following: Two synthetic surfaced playing fields Physiotherapy clinic and medical centre for immediate or follow up treatment of injury A gymnasium, cross-fit centre and a group fitness centre are available - Senior Rugby Players have exclusive access to their own fitness and strength centre in addition to warm up and exercise areas Fitness training by highly talented and recognised staff Full time Directors of Rugby, who apart from carrying out recruitment duties are available for personal support of players and their families Eight self-contained changing sheds that are allocated to Rifle s sides for training and playing days An accommodation block that sleeps in excess of 40 people. It is a low cost facility and is hugely popular with visiting school teams, club teams, and provincial sides covering a wide range of sports. It is available at reduced rates to members who have a need to house large numbers of friends and whānau when they visit for special events We have a licensed café and bar which is accessible throughout the week and weekends In addition, Rugby Club members can also take advantage and participate in summer sports such as touch rugby, cricket and athletics. Fun activities such as men s netball and ripper rugby also feature.

A Club with values College Rifles offers a solid club background coupled with a strong sense of tradition and comradeship that is ever present. History shows that those who join Rifles tend to stay for some time, illustrated by the fact our ex-players and supporters club has been operating for over 50 years and boasts in excess of 150 members. Our mission statement Serving our community by being the home of New Zealand s Premier Rugby and Sports Club. Our vision To be the most successful and inspiring sports experience in New Zealand.
