From The Bridge Vol. CXIV No. I I pril 2017 s I write this letter, we are experiencing a bit of winter in spring. Despite the snow, the Club is coming to life. Many of us enjoyed the St. Patrick s Day corned beef and the Sunday brunch that was served to kick off the season. The officers have been very busy. Sarah Ferrante, Secretary, has been meeting with many new applicants and giving tours of our facilities. There seems to be a lot of interest. I want to thank you all for recommending the Club to your friends. Ken Herbert, Vice Commodore, has been busy planning events for the members, which includes a night of Beatles music on pril 22, 2017. He is also helping with the transition of our new Catering and Dining Manager, James Fedorchak. Please be sure to introduce yourself to James the next time you are here. Bob Colum, Rear Commodore, has been working diligently on the pool design work. He also ordered fifty new pool chairs as we begin a chair replacement program. Finally, there remain a few available slips that Bob is looking to fill. Dr. lan Liebnick, Fleet Captain continues to come up with new and innovative ways to bring the sailing experience to more Club members. Keep an eye out for the many new sailing programs. Registration is still open for your junior sailors. lan and his daughter, Olivia, have focused their attention on the Father Daughter Dance that is scheduled for pril 29, 2017. It should be a wonderful evening. Bruce P. Kuryla, P.C., Treasurer, has not only been keeping our financial house in order and organizing our financial filings, he has found time to race in the Caribbean on Defiant. gain, please make sure that you are on the Club s email list so that you receive e-blasts and the Rudder with the latest information about activities at MYC. Finally, when you see the officers at the Club, please feel free to ask any of them any questions concerning the Club and its operations for the 2017 season. ll suggestions that you have to improve your club experience are welcome. Off The Docks and On The Grounds Sailing News from Fleet Captain lan Liebnick Spring weather is finally arriving and that can only mean one thing: boating season is upon us! You can be assured that Milford Yacht Club has been in full preparation mode for a fun filled sailing season. There will be plenty of excitement this summer. Whether you choose to cruise, race or learn to sail, we have you covered. Below is a synopsis of our many sailing activities. Sailing, Family Experience (SFE)- New this year. This program is ideal for those members who may not be interested in learning to sail but would like to experience it. Through this program, members will be able to reserve a J/22 and enjoy sailing with their families while the boat is skippered by one of Milford s trained and seasoned sailors. No experience necessary-just an interest in enjoying a relaxed evening sail with your family. Summer of Sailing (SOS)- lways a crowd pleaser. This is a six week adult sailing program that meets one day a week and is designed to introduce those members interested in learning basic sailing skills on our J/22s in a fun and exciting atmosphere. Socializing with your classmates after class at the bar has always been a program highlight. Mothers at the Helm (MTH)-Back by popular demand. This is an exciting program being offered this summer to teach mothers (and fathers) how to sail while their children are at Junior Sailing. Using our J/22 boats, you will have the opportunity to learn basic sailing skills. I can t think of a better way to spend the morning or afternoon than with a group of your friends and an instructor sailing with a latte in hand! J/22 Summer Chartering Program - Graduates of SOS, MTH and other qualified members can reserve and charter a J/22 for their own enjoyment. If any of these programs interest you and you would like to know more then please contact Fleet Captain lan Liebnick at fleetcaptain@milfordyachtclub.com.
