He now has 1,026 career points and is 38th in career scoring at Virginia A.D. Vassallo Tech... He became the first Hokie junior since Zabian Dowdell reached the mark in the 2005-06 season... Vassallo recorded his 300th career rebound in the loss to #4/3 Duke... In the win at Maryland, he recorded his 100th career assist and 400th point of the season... Of the 39 players who have scored 1,000 career points at Virginia Tech, nine (23.1 percent) have completed their careers in the last eight seasons. A.D. JADD During the team s pregame meal before playing at Maryland on Wednesday night, Seth Greenberg challenged Jeff Allen to step up his game and record a double-double... Mission Accomplished Jeff Allen... Allen recorded his first double-double in action and his seventh of the season with his 14 points and 14 rebounds in the win... He also tied a careerhigh with three blocked shots and added three steals... It marked Allen s first doubledouble since his 10 points and 10 rebounds against Charleston Southern on Jan 7. Long Time Coming When Virginia Tech defeated Maryland, 69-65, in the Comcast Center on Jan. 20, it marked the Hokies first win in College Park since Jan. 15, 1951 and just their third ever at Maryland... Tech had never won in either the Comcast Center or Cole Field House at Maryland before Wednesday night. Another Long Streak Snapped The Hokies 81-73 overtime victory at Boston College on Jan. 26 marked Tech s firstever win at Boston College... The Hokies were 0-6 at the Conte Forum, including games in both the BIG EAST and. Frosh Points Malcolm Delaney became the third Hokie player to score at least 20 points in a game this season when he recorded a career-high 20 points in the loss at #5/5 UNC... He is the second freshman Malcolm Delaney on this year s team to hit the 20-point mark in a game... Last season, no Hokie freshman scored 20-or-more-points in a game... Prior to this season, the last time a Hokie freshman reached the 20-point plateau in a game was in the 2005-06 season, when A.D. Vassallo scored 29 points at Wake Forest... The last time two-or-more Hokie freshmen scored 20-or-more points in a game was the 2003-04 season, when Zabian Dowdell, Jamon Gordon and Coleman Collins all hit that mark. J.T. is A-OK J.T. Thompson missed the win at Maryland on Feb. 20 with a sprained right ankle... He injured the ankle in practice last Monday... He returned to action on Feb. 23 in the win over Georgia Tech with 13 J.T. Thompson points and eight rebounds... In the loss to #4/3 Duke, he got his first career start... The freshman forward recorded careerhighs with 13 points and eight rebounds... He was 6-8 from the floor and also blocked a shot in 25 minutes of action... He entered the game with just six total points in games this season and more than doubled that number with 13 points... 43 hours later, in the win at Boston College, he improved both of those numbers... He scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, recording his first career double-double... He continued the good work in the win over FSU, with 11 points and five rebounds.

This marks the eighth time in his career he has led the Hokies in assists in a game... In the loss at NC State, Washington Deron Washington established a new personal record for assists in a season... He now has 65 assists this year... He entered the season averaging 1.2 assists per game... He is averaging 2.3 assists per game this year. Man of Steal Jeff Allen is heading towards setting a new freshman steals record at Virginia Tech... In the win over Maryland on Jan. 12, Allen recorded a then-career-high five steals... It was also a then-season-high in steals for any Hokie... In the loss at NC State, Allen surpassed that with a new career-high and team season-high of six steals... The last time a Tech freshman had six or more steals in a game was the 2003-04 season, when Jamon Gordon had an eight steal game and and seven steal game... Allen has 55 steals this season and the Virginia Tech record for steals by a freshman is 58 by Dell Curry in the 1982-83 season... Allen s six steals in the NC State game ties a Virginia Tech record for most steals in an game, set four times in the past... The six steals ties an season-high this year, set six other times. Man of Steal II Hank Thorns tied Jeff Allen s season-high with six steals in the win at Maryland... This marks a new career-high for Thorns and he is second on the team with 34 steals. Hank Thorns Taking Care Virginia Tech s Hank Thorns has shown quite a knack for protecting the ball so far this season... Over the last 24 games, he has dished out 79 assists, while committing just 42 turnovers... Thorns is sixth in the in assist/turnover ratio and teammate Malcolm Delaney is ninth. Stepping It Up Entering the Hokies first game on Dec. 23, A.D. Vassallo was averaging 15.8 points per game... Since that date, Vassallo is averaging 17.5 ppg in games this season... His rebounding average overall has jumped from 3.1 rpg to the current 4.7 rpg and 5.9 rpg in play. Hokies vs. Ranked Teams The Hokies are 0-4 vs. ranked teams this season... The Hokies were 4-1 against nationally-ranked teams last season, and 3-0 against teams ranked in the top 5 nationally... Tech is 6-16 against nationally-ranked teams since joining the for the 2004-05 season and 7-20 against nationally-ranked teams under Seth Greenberg... Tech is 23-125 alltime against teams ranked in the AP poll. Tight in the Cassell vs. the Terps With the 67-66 victory over Maryland on Jan. 12, the Hokies are now 4-2 against the Terps in action... In the three games played in Cassell Coliseum, the Hokies are 3-0, but have won by differentials of 10 points, three points in overtime and the one point margin of victory on Jan. 12, for an average of 4.7 ppg. Making the Mark When Deron Washington reached the 100 blocked shots mark in the win over Hofstra, he became just the sixth player in Virginia Tech history to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 100 blocked shots... At Penn State, Washington became the 38th player in Virginia Tech history to score 1,000 career points... He now has 1,283 career points and moved past former teammate Jamon Gordon and tied Wayne Robinson for 22nd place in career scoring at Virginia Tech in the win over Georgia Tech... He recorded his 500th career rebound in the win over UNC Greensboro... The last player to do so was Coleman Collins, who reached those levels last season... Bryant Matthews missed the 100 blocked shot mark by just two. Always Trust Folks Over 40 With his four blocked shots in the loss at #5/5 UNC, Cheick Diakite reached the 40 blocked shots mark for the Hokies this season... This is the first time since the 2001-02 season, when Carlton Carter blocked 45 shots, that a Hokie has blocked 40-ormore shots in a single season... Diakite needs Cheick Diakite just three blocked shots to enter the top 10 in single season blocked shots at Virginia Tech... He now has 88 career blocked shots.. Hey, That s a Lot of Games The Jan. 19 game at Georgia Tech marked the Hokies 2,300th all-time game. Tech vs. the Top 10 Virginia Tech s wins over #5 Duke and #1 North Carolina last season marked just the second time in school history that the Hokies had won consecutive games against top-10 teams... The only other time that this had happened was on Dec. 1 and Dec. 17, 1962, when the Hokies defeated #3 Kentucky, 80-77, in Lexington and #5 Mississippi State, 82-65, in Blacksburg... The 94 points scored in the win over #1 UNC is the most points scored by Tech in a win over a top-10 team and the second-highest point total scored by Tech in any game vs. a top-10 team... Tech lost at #7 Louisville, 108-95, on Feb. 1, 1989... The last time Tech won two straight against nationally-ranked teams was on Jan. 9 and Jan. 23, 1982, with home and away victories over #12 and #17 Louisville... This was just the third time Tech had ever won two straight against nationally-ranked teams... Add in the win at #4 North Carolina and this was the first time that the Hokies had defeated three top-10 teams in the same season... Tech is 0-2 against top 10 teams this season. Freshmen Points Jeff Allen has scored 309 points for the Hokies in 25 games... That already surpasses the 2006-07 season total of 97 points by Nigel Munson, the Hokies top freshman scorer last season...
