WHAT KIND OF BICYCLE IS IT? Bicycles ca be broadly categorised ito four types: Road or Tourig Moutai or Off Road Cross, Hybrid, City or Comfort BMX Freestyle Bicycles for youger riders use are geerally scaled dow versios of adult bicycles icludig the step through desig. Other bicycles iclude tadems, recumbets ad foldig bicycles. Which type is your ew bicycle? ROAD OR TOURING Typically has arrow tyres ad drop hadlebar. Variatios iclude bicycles suited for tourig, commutig, sports, ad recreatioal ridig. MOUNTAIN OR OFF ROAD The Moutai Bicycle is desiged to give the rider maximum cotrol ad durability o a wide variety of harsh terrai. Everythig about the Moutai Bicycle is more rugged. Its frame geometry provides maximum groud clearace ad allows you to quickly ad easily shift your weight to chage the balace of the bicycle as terrai coditios demad. WARNING: Not all Moutai type bicycles are iteded for off road or competitio use. Check specificatios ad techical advice from your bicycle retailer before use. BMX BMX, are geeral purpose bicycles for youger riders. The BMX type Bicycle is a versatile machie usually of 20 (510mm) or less sized wheels with wide sectio tyres, ideal for geeral purpose use by youger riders. WARNING: Geeral purpose Freestyle ad BMX bicycles are ot desiged for stutig, racig or competitio use. FREESTYLE Modelled o a trick ridig style machie, featurig 360 degree revolvig hadlebar/fork assembly, axle pegs ad wide profile tyres. Usig a freestyle type bicycle for trick or competitio ridig may void warraty. POWER ASSISTED BICYCLES Have characteristics ad equipmet which may require special istructio, adjustmet, care ad maiteace. Read carefully all istructio mauals. Ask your bicycle retailer for advice o maiteace, adjustmets ad repair. Uauthorised work may limit or void the warraty. FOLDING BICYCLES Desiged for easy storage. May require special istructio before use. Esure that all lockig devices are correctly secured before ridig a Foldig bicycle. WHAT IS IT CALLED? Although bicycle compoets vary i desig, weight ad method of use, basically all bicycles are the same. A bicycle is made up of a frame, wheels, drive trai, brakes, stem, hadle bars ad saddle. Frames must show a makers ID label. Familiarise yourself with the bicycle s termiology; it will make basic maiteace istructios much easier to follow. TYPICAL PARTS OF A BICYCLE NOTE: Not all compoets or all bicycle types are show. FOR ALL TYPES Where a suspesio uit, disk ad / or hydraulic brake uits, multi-gear hub, electric gear chagig system, etc, are fitted, cosult maufacturers specificatio ad warraty documets. For correct selectio ad repair advice, ask your bicycle retailer. Uauthorised work may limit or void a product warraty. 1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 1.1 FITTING YOUR BICYCLE FOR A SAFE RIDE To ride safely ad comfortably a bicycle ad its equipmet must be matched properly to the size ad skills of the rider. FITTING FOR LEG LENGTH FRAME SIZE RIDER LEG LENGTH 14.5 25-26 15 26-27 16 27-28 17 28-30 18 29-31 19 30-32 20 31-33 21 32-34 22 33-35 23 34-36 24 35-37 25 36-38 MAKE SURE THE BICYCLE FITS WARNING: Hadlebar hadgrips or tube-ed plugs should be replaced if damaged. Uprotected tube-eds ca cause ijury. Bicycles used by childre should especially be checked to esure bar ed hadgrips are i good coditio. A bicycle that is too big or too small for the rider is hard to cotrol ad ca be ucomfortable. If your bicycle does ot fit properly, you may lose cotrol ad fall. Page 5 Page 6

SADDLE HEIGHT To ride comfortably ad pedal efficietly, it s very importat to have the saddle at the correct height. Your leg legth determies the correct saddle height. The saddle is at the correct height for you whe, while seated o the saddle, your kee is slightly bet whe the crak is at the maximum dow stroke (pedal is closest to the groud). To adjust the saddle height, loose the seat bider bolt (A) or the quick release (B) ad move the seat post up or dow as required. Make sure that the saddle is parallel to the top tube of the bicycle. Retighte the seat post tight eough so that you caot twist the saddle out of aligmet. A loose seat post will allow the saddle to tur or slip ad may cause you to lose cotrol ad fall. Therefore: 1. Ask your bicycle retailer to help you make sure you kow how to correctly clamp your seat post. 2. Before you ride the bicycle, first check that the seat post is securely clamped. Uder o circumstaces should the seat post project from the frame beyod its Miimum Isertio or Maximum Extesio mark. WARNING: do ot replace the seat post with a post which is: A) ot of the same diameter or B) loger tha the origial. Either will void the warraty ad could lead to seat post failure, loss of rider cotrol ad ijury. HANDLEBAR HEIGHT AND ANGLE WARNING: Uder o circumstaces should the head stem be retighteed with its Miimum Isertio or Maximum Extesio mark visible. Threadless headset. DO NOT over tighte the two securig bolts. If usure, cosult your bicycle retailers. If the frot brake cable is attached to the hadlebar stem movig the stem up or dow will require a readjustmet of the brake. If i doubt, ask your bicycle retailer to make the adjustmet. CONTROLS POSITION ADJUSTMENT The brake ad shiftig cotrols o your bicycle are positioed where they work best for most riders. The agle of the cotrols ad the positio o the hadlebars ca be chaged. Ask your bicycle retailer to make the adjustmets for you. WARNING: Frot wheel brake lever must be mouted o the right had side; rear brake lever o the left had side. HAND BRAKE LEVER REACH May bicycles have brake levers which ca be adjusted for reach. If you have small hads ad fid it difficult to squeeze the brake levers, your bicycle retailer ca either adjust the reach or fit shorter reach brake levers. After you have set the saddle height ad tilt, adjust the hadlebar for a safe ad comfortable ride. Ask your bicycle retailer for advice. Page 7 Page 8

1.2 SAFETY CHECK BEFORE RIDING YOUR BICYCLE c c c c Check ad tighte ay loose uts, bolts ad straps. If you re ot sure, ask your bicycle retailer to check. Tyres correctly iflated? Check by pushig dow with your thumb o the top of the tyre. The tyre should depress slightly. Compare to how it feels whe you kow the tyres are correctly iflated. Replace damaged tyres before they pucture. Wheels true? Spi each wheel ad check for brake clearace ad side-to-side wobble. If a wheel wobbles or hits the brake pads, take the bicycle to your bicycle retailer. Brakes: Check that the brakes operate effectively. QUICK RELEASES c Are the frot wheel, rear wheel ad seat post quick releases properly adjusted ad i the locked positio? Check all quick release mechaisms are correctly ad securely closed. CHECK LIGHTS AND REFLECTORS c Workig Certai activities may damage your bicycle ad result i serious persoal ijury. Take these precautios: avoid jumpig kerbs avoid potholes ad gratigs avoid stut ridig ad jumpig WARNING: Do ot remove protective safety equipmet fitted to your bicycle, icludig hadlebar ed covers or plugs; reflectors fitted to frame, wheels ad pedals; reflector mout brackets (where catilever brakes are fitted); frot chai rig guard; rear wheel spoke protector (right had side); chai guard where fitted; warig stickers affixed to frame. Note: A replacemet fork must be the same legth ad maitai the same rake ad trail characteristics as the origial. Ask your bicycle retailer for advice. c Correctly aliged HANDLEBAR AND SADDLE c c Are the hadlebar ad saddle system: horizotal? tight eough so they wo t twist? hadlebars secure, good coditio? hadle bar eds plugged? Is a bell fitted ad workig? Ay broke or wor parts should be replaced before the bicycle is used. 1.3 SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND SENSIBLE RIDING As a road user you have resposibility for your ow safety ad the safety of others. You eed to kow: the road rules how to ride safely YOUR BICYCLE Check your bicycle before you use it. (Use the safety check 1.2 icludig the adjustmets). Page 9 Page 10

YOUR BICYCLE (CONT) Kow how to work all bicycle cotrols. For ridig i low light ad ight coditios, fit your bicycle with appropriate frot ad rear lamps. WARNING: Always wear a correctly fitted ad fasteed helmet whe ridig your bicycle. WARNING: Check reflectors ad moutig brackets regularly to make sure that they are clea, straight, ubroke ad securely mouted. Equip your bicycle with lights: white frot ad red rear. Ridig i low light or at ight time without reflectors ad lights is extremely dagerous. The moutig positio for reflectors shall be above the level of the back axle, ad shall be such that the reflector(s) are ot obscured from view eg. By the riders clothig or by the wheel. ADJUSTING THE QUICK RELEASE MECHANISM REMOVING THE FRONT WHEEL The wheel hub is clamped i place by the force of the Quick Release lever cam pushig agaist oe dropout ad pullig the adjustig ut usig the skewer agaist the other dropout. Turig the adjustig ut CLOCKWISE will INCREASE the clampig stregth of the lever. Turig the adjustig ut ANTI-CLOCKWISE will DECREASE the clampig stregth of the lever. The full force of the cam actio is eeded to clamp the wheel securely. You caot secure the quick release mechaism by twistig the adjustig ut. Never use the QR lever to wid up the mechaism. Tighte or loose usig the adjustig ut with the QR lever i the ope positio. Catilever ad Liear brakes Release the Brake Quick Release. (This will allow the brakes to be opeed to let the tyre pass betwee the brake blocks). Side pull brakes Release the Brake Quick Release. (This will allow the brakes to be opeed to let the tyre pass betwee the brake blocks). Move the Wheel Quick Release Lever to the ope positio. If your bicycle is fitted with secodary retetio devices uwid the Quick Release Lever eough to allow the wheel to be removed. If your frot wheel is fitted with axle uts istead of a Quick Release mechaism, use a spaer of the correct size to fit the axle uts. FRONT WHEEL SECONDARY RETENTION DEVICES Some bicycles have frot forks which use a secodary wheel retetio device to keep the wheel from disegagig if the axle uts loose. Some bicycle frot forks have a shaped lug which acts to keep the wheel from disegagig if the axle uts are looseed. To remove the wheel the axles uts (or quick release mechaism) must be backed off far eough for the wheel to be removed. Uwid the axle ut sufficietly to allow the secodary retetio devices to release. Hold the frot of the bicycle 30mm to 50mm off the groud to allow the wheel to be removed. INSTALLATION OF THE FRONT WHEEL The istallatio is the reverse procedure to Removig the Frot Wheel, except: Make sure the wheel axle is correctly positioed i the fork (see diagram). WARNING: Removig or disablig the secodary retetio device is extremely dagerous, may void the warraty, ad ca lead to serious ijury. Positio the Quick Release parallel to the frot fork whe it is i the CLOSE positio. This will prevet the lever beig kocked ope whilst ridig. The Quick Release Lever is positioed o the left had side. ADJUSTMENT NOTES If the Quick Release Lever ca be easily pushed to the CLOSE positio, the clampig stregth is isufficiet. Retur the lever to a positio at right agles to the fork. Tur the Adjustig Nut clockwise to icrease the clampig stregth. Push the lever back to the CLOSE positio to check the clampig stregth. You will eed a reasoable amout of force to CLOSE the lever to esure the adjustmet is correct. NOTE: If you are ot sure of ay of these steps or how the quick release mechaism operates ask your bicycle retailer. INSTALLING THE REAR WHEEL Istallatio is the reverse procedure of removig the rear wheel. NOTE: Make sure that the chai is o the small cog as you positio the rear wheel i the dropouts. Check that you have the correct clampig pressure (Quick Release Lever). If you have axle uts make sure they are tighteed correctly. Esure that the Quick Release Lever is positioed as show to prevet the lever from releasig whilst ridig. Whe repositioig the wheel i the frame make sure that it is cetrally located to prevet rubbig of the wheel o the frame. WARNING: Failure to properly reistall a wheel may result i a crash. REMOVING THE REAR WHEEL Set the rear gear lever so that the chai ca be moved to the smallest cog. Release the Brake Quick Release (see Removig the Frot Wheel) If fitted with axle uts, use the correct spaer to loose the axle uts eough to allow the wheel to be removed. If fitted with a Quick Release Lever, move the lever ito the OPEN positio. This allows the wheel to be removed. Lift the bike off the groud 30-50mm, push the wheel forward ad dow util it comes out of the dropouts. SEAT POST QUICK RELEASE May bicycles are equipped with quick release seat post clamps. The seat post quick release clamps work exactly like the Wheel Quick Release. See Adjustig the Quick Release Mechaism. Follow the steps described to adjust the height of your seat post. WARNING: The full force of the cam actio is eeded to clamp the seat post securely. Page 17 Page 18

OTHER SEAT POST FIXINGS A Alle Key Bolt or a ut is used. You must use the correct type of tool to make adjustmets. The Seat Post must be iserted i the seat tube to at least the miimum isertio poit. Esure idexig lug o the seat post clamp bolt is correctly egaged i the seat tube clamp. BRAKES The brakig actio of a bicycle is a fuctio of frictio betwee brake surfaces, usually the brake blocks ad the wheel rims. WARNING: Careless use of the frot brake first ca cause a crash. Note: Most brakes have some form of quick release mechaism to allow the brake shoes to clear the tyre whe a wheel is removed or reistalled. Whe the brake quick release is i the ope positio, the brake will ot operate. Ask your bicycle retailer for help. Make sure you uderstad the way the brake quick release works o your bicycle. BRAKE ADJUSTMENT Keep your wheel rims ad brake blocks clea ad free of lubricats, waxes or polishes. Make sure that your hads ca reach ad squeeze the brake levers comfortably. Most bicycles are fitted with frot ad rear had brake levers ad these are attached to either CANTILEVER CALIPERS, SIDE PULL CALIPERS, DISK or LINEAR BRAKES. Whe replacig both brake cables check that the left had cable is fitted to the rear brake whe lookig from the ridig positio. To adjust chai tesio o a bicycle fitted with a back pedal brake or iterally geared hub with a sigle freewheel cog, the back wheel must be moved forward or backward i the dropouts. Loose the axle uts ad brake arm clip. Allow 10-12mm of up/ dow chai movemet halfway betwee chairig (frot) ad cog (rear). Re-tighte uts ad brake arm clip. For back pedal brakes: check that the brake arm clip is securely attached to the chai stay. CANTILEVER TYPE BRAKES You should have approximately 2mm clearace betwee the brake blocks ad the wheel rim. To adjust the brakes, o the brake lever tur the barrel adjuster CLOCKWISE to loose the brake. Move the adjuster ANTI-CLOCKWISE to tighte the brake. Tur the lock rig located below the barrel util it stops to set your adjustmets. If your brakes shudder/squeal you eed to check the toe i/out aligmet of the brake blocks. The leadig edge of the block should be 0.5-1mm, closer to the wheel rim tha the trailig edge. To cetre the brake arms, loose the cable carrier ut, slide the cable carrier up or dow util it cetres the brake blocks (so there is a eve gap o either side of the rim). Retighte the cable carrier ut. Spi the wheel to esure the brake blocks, do ot rub o the wheel rim. Page 19 Page 20

Tur the Alle key ANTI- CLOCKWISE to move the brake pad trailig edge i. LINEAR BRAKE (CONT) Brake lever travel ca be adjusted for ease of use by a child or ayoe with small hads by meas of the adjuster screw usually located o the body of the brake lever. LINEAR TYPE BRAKES A Liear brake arm might have a post type brake block (as for a Catilever brake) or a block which ca oly be adjusted for toe-i ad block-to-rim aligmet, i which case brake block-to-rim clearace is adjusted by chagig the brake cable legth at the brake arm or at the brake lever cable adjuster. Ask your bicycle retailer how to make the correct adjustmet. To release a Liear brake press the brake arms together ad uclip the cable lead uit (curved metal tube) from the pivotted metal stirrup. The brake cable remais attached to the opposite brake arm. If the cable lead uit ad coe shaped ferrule caot be uclipped either slacke the cable at the brake lever (usig the cable adjuster) or release the cable ed which is attached to the brake arm. NOTE: Allow sufficiet travel i the brake lever ad cable to eable the curved cable lead tube to be uclipped from the stirrup. To reset the cable lead tube press the brake arms together ad re-clip ito the pivotted metal stirrup. IMPORTANT: Esure the coe shaped ferrule is fully seated i the stirrup. Esure the protective flexible bellows or accordio-like cable protector betwee the brake arm ad the stirrup is correctly located. NOTE: a brake lever with too little travel before hittig the hadlebar may cause a liear brake to lock up if the lever is pulled o hard. Loger lever travel allows more progressive ad better cotrolled brakig. Adjust to suit your ridig style, or ask your bicycle retailer to assist you make the correct adjustmet. NOTE: all compoets of a liear brake must be compatible. Do ot mix brake types. The brake lever for a liear brake is ot desiged to work with other types. SIDE PULL TYPE BRAKES (ROAD BICYCLES) Whe your side pull brake caliper is properly adjusted, you should have betwee 1-2mm gap betwee the brake block ad the wheel rim. To cetre the brake caliper use the ceterig adjustmet screw to cetre the brakes. Tur the screw CLOCKWISE to move the caliper to the right. Tur the screw ANTI-CLOCKWISE to move the caliper to the left. To set the gap betwee the blocks ad the wheel rim use the Cable Adjustmet Bolt. Tur the Adjustmet Bolt CLOCKWISE to move the brake block away from the rim. Tur the Adjustmet Bolt ANTI-CLOCKWISE to move the brake block towards the rim. Tighte the Cable Adjustmet Bolt Lock Nut i a CLOCKWISE directio to set your adjustmet. Page 21 Page 22

If your brakes shudder/squeal you eed to adjust the toe i/out. As you eed to realig the caliper arms to overcome this problem, your dealer should make this adjustmet to your bike. THE DERAILLEUR GEAR SYSTEM The gear system o your bicycle cosists of: A rear cluster (freewheel) which is attached to the rear wheel. A rear derailleur which moves the chai across the cluster to chage the gear ratio. DISK STYLE BRAKES The distictive feature of disk brakes is the actual brakig disk that is fixed to the wheel ad the caliper uit attached to the frot fork or rear wheel frame. The brake is activated either by a cable or hydraulic system. Disk brake systems require special care of the disk itself, which ca eve be damaged by some bicycle parkig racks. A frot derailleur which moves the chai betwee the frot chai rigs to chage the gear ratio. Gear levers which, whe moved, chage the gears. Cotrol cables which attach the gear levers to both the frot ad rear derailleurs. A chai. Hydraulic systems may require special tools ad adjustmets. If i doubt about ay adjustmets or maitaiace cosult your bicycle retailer or the maufacturer s maual or specificatios data. Some brads provide techical data o their websites. WARNING: Failure to properly maitai your brake system may result i a crash. The brake Quick Release mechaisms are used to ope the brake arm to assist i the removal / istallatio of wheels. The brakes will ot fuctio if the Quick Release is left ope. INTERNAL GEARED HUB If your bicycle is fitted with a multi speed iteral geared rear hub it may require special istructio for correct use, adjustmet, care ad maiteace. Read carefully the istructio maual supplied with your bicycle. Ask your bicycle retailer for advice o use ad maiteace of a iteral geared hub. NOTE: Uauthorised work may limit or void the warraty. The purpose of derailleurs is to move from oe sprocket to aother to allow for a variety of gear ratios. These ratios allow the rider to maitai a costat pedal revolutio i a variety of road ad speed coditios. Ask your bicycle retailer for advice. SHIFTING GEARS Idetify your gear levers from the diagrams. Moutai / Cross bicycles have hadlebar mouted shifters. Road bikes use various types of shifters, these ca iclude Itegrated Brake ad Gear Levers, rotatig hadlebar grip shift systems or other variats. Ask your bicycle retailer to explai the gear chagig procedure. Practice chagig gears to gai cofidece. For smooth operatio of all types of levers you must be pedallig forwards whe chagig gears. The gear shift priciple: The right had lever operates the rear gears. The left had lever operates the frot chai rig shifter. Whe shiftig through a wide rage of gears, you may otice a oise as a result of the chai rubbig o the iside of the frot derailleur cage. This oise ca be elimiated by movig the gear lever (frictio systems) or adjustig the gear cable (idexig systems.) NOTE: Some bicycles have gear levers mouted o the dow tube (see diagram) of the frame. Usig this type of moutig requires practice. WARNING: Avoid ridig with the chai o both the largest frot chai rig ad the largest rear cog, smallest rear cog ad small chai rig. This puts excessive strai o the chai ad ca damage derailleur parts. Practice chagig to a lower gear before stoppig. This will assist easier startig at take-off. As you gai more experiece with your gear ratios you will be able to select the most suitable gear for the terrai ad weather coditios. WARNING: Pedallig backwards whilst chagig gears ca jam the chai causig damage to your bicycle ad/or a crash. NOTE: Your bicycle retailer will be able to assist you if you are ucertai about the steps i shiftig gears. FRICTION GEAR SHIFT LEVERS Frictio levers are stopless ad hold the derailleur i place with simple force (tesio). The amout of frictio ca be adjusted by meas of the screw o top of the lever assembly. If derailleur gears o your bicycle are idexed, each time you move the gear lever oe click the derailleur travels a set distace to egage the ext gear. This eables you easier ad more accurate gear chagig. DERAILLEUR ADJUSTMENT From time to time your rear derailleur eeds adjustmet. You may eed to tighte the derailleur cable to remove excessive cable slack. Excessive slack i the cable will cause the derailleur to miss shift. Page 25 Page 26

Locate the Adjustig Barrel o the back of the derailleur. Tur the barrel ANTI-CLOCKWISE half a tur ad test the derailleur by chagig gear. TOE CLIPS AND TOE STRAPS Toe clips ad straps are used to assist with the correct positioig of your feet o the pedals ad to help your ridig techique. The toe clip positios the ball of the foot over the pedal spidle, which gives maximum pedallig power. The toe strap, whe tighteed, keeps the foot egaged throughout the rotatio cycle of the pedal. Gettig ito ad out of pedals with toe clips ad straps requires skill which ca oly be acquired with practice. Do ot ride i traffic or aroud other hazards util you ca use toe clips ad straps as a reflex actio. Never ride i traffic with your toe straps tight. CLIPLESS PEDALS Clipless pedals are usually adjustable. Your bicycle retailer ca show you how to make this adjustmet. WARNING: Clipless pedals are iteded for use with shoes specifically made to fit them ad are desiged to firmly keep the foot egaged with the pedal. Practice is required to lear to egage ad disegage the foot safely. TYRES AND TUBES Bicycle tyres are available i may desigs ad specificatios, ragig from geeral purpose desigs to tyres desiged to perform best uder very specific weather or terrai coditios. Your bicycle retailer ca help you select the most appropriate tyre ad tube. The size ad pressure ratig of a tyre is marked o the sidewall of the tyre. The part of this iformatio which is most importat to you is Tyre Pressure. The best way to iflate a bicycle tyre to the correct pressure is with a bicycle pump. Your bicycle retailer ca help you select a appropriate pump. TAKE CARE: Whe usig compressed air, over iflatio ca burst the tube ad tyre. Never iflate a tyre beyod the maximum pressure marked o the sidewall of the tyre. If the tyre pressure o your tyres is ot i kilopascals please refer to the coversio table o Page 43. Tyre pressure is give either as maximum pressure or as a pressure rage. How a tyre performs uder differet terrai or weather coditios depeds largely o tyre pressure. Iflatig the tyre to ear its maximum recommeded pressure gives the lowest rollig resistace; but also produces the harshest ride. High pressures work best o smooth, dry pavemet. Very low pressures, at the bottom of the recommeded pressure rage, give the best performace o loose or muddy surfaces. Ridig with your tyres uderiflated ca cause a pucture, the tyre deforms ad piches the ier tube betwee the rim ad the ridig surface. TYRE VALVES There are two kids of bicycle tube valves i commo use - the Schraeder Valve ad the Presta Valve. The bicycle pump you use must have the fittig appropriate to the valve stems o your bicycle. The Schraeder is like the valve o a car tyre. To iflate a Schraeder valve tube with compressed air or with a bicycle pump, remove the valve cap ad push the air hose or pump fittig o to the ed of the valve stem. To let air out of a Schraeder valve, depress the pi i the ed of the valve stem with the ed of a key or other appropriate object. The Presta valve has a arrower diameter ad is oly foud o bicycle tyres. To iflate a Presta valve tube usig a Presta headed bicycle pump: remove the valve cap uscrew (ati-clockwise) the valve stem lock ut push dow o the valve stem to free it up push the pump head o to the valve head, ad iflate. NOTE: Chagig suspesio adjustmet ca chage the hadlig ad brakig characteristics of your bicycle. Read ad follow maufacturer s istructios Not all bicycles ca be safely retrofitted with suspesio systems. Check with your bicycle retailer. 3.1 MAINTAINING YOUR BICYCLE SERVICE AND BASIC MAINTENANCE Bicycles perform best whe they are kept clea, lubricated ad serviced regularly. Test bottom bracket bearigs for excess play or bidig. Check that the lockut is tight. Check bottom bracket is correctly lubricated. 4. Alle Key set 2mm-6mm Set of ope ed spaers 7-17mm Set of tyre levers Chai lik remover Wire cutters Torque wrech Fit wheels to frame ad alig. Secure axle uts or Quick Release (QR) mechaism. Lubricate hadlebar stem, slacke wedge bolt ad wedge, slide ito head set to below miimum isert mark, alig square to frot wheel, tighte wedge bolt. Tighte wedge bolt. Check head stem lock ut is tight ad that the hadlebar will ot rotate. If your bicycle is equipped with a threadless headset, check fittig adjustmets with your bicycle retailer. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN the two securig bolts. Slide brake ad gear lever assemblies oto hadlebar i correct cofiguratio. Tighte lockig bolts. Adjust brake assembly cables ad alig brake blocks for prescribed clearace. Page 35 Page 36

Fit hadlebar tape or hadgrips, stop eds to bar if bar is taped, ad bell. Assemble saddle oto seat stem. Tighte fixig uts. Lubricate seat stem ad isert i seat tube to below miimum isert mark. Tighte seat bider bolt or Quick Release mechaism. Fit pedals to crak i correct order; pedal marked R o the right had side; L o the left. Fit frame mouted reflector brackets ad reflectors. Alig reflectors to vertical. Tighte all bolts. Cofirm that wheel reflectors are fitted. Recheck that all compoets are correctly assembled, all bolts, uts ad QR correctly secure. Check that hadlebar ad saddle caot be swivelled sideways. Check derailleur gears/hub gears for correct operatio; adjust to maufacturer s specificatio. Check both brakes for correct operatio. A good quality, hardeed steel U-lock is your bicycle s best protectio from theft. U-locks are more secure tha cables or chais with padlocks. Combiatio locks provide least security. Make sure the lock or cable is ot i a positio which makes it easy to be removed or cut. A frot wheel with Quick Release ca be removed ad locked to the frame. A good quality U-Lock may be the most secure device for lockig your bicycle. Bicycle parkig rails should comply with Australia Stadard AS2890.3 (1993). Threadless head sets: some bicycles, especially those equipped with a frot fork suspesio system, are fitted with a threadless head set. Special tools ad/or procedures may be required to correctly secure such devices. 4.4 LOCK YOUR BICYCLE If you lock up your bicycle, it is much less likely to be stole. Nearly all bicycles stole were ot locked at the time. 4.5 KEEP A RECORD OF YOUR BICYCLE Take a colour photograph of your bicycle, write the frame umber o the back of the photograph ad keep it i a safe place. Less tha oe i te stole bicycles is retured, partly because the ower caot describe the bicycle. Egravig a registratio umber o the bicycle will also help. The police, Neighbourhood Watch ad service clubs ru bicycle registratio programs. If you keep a record of the details of your bicycle it will greatly icrease the possibility of gettig it back should it be lost or stole. Remember the advice about LOCKING YOUR BICYCLE.
