DUTCH MotoGP 27 JUNE DUTCH WSBK 19 APRIL A FEW THINGS ABOUT ASSEN The TT Circuit Assen has been the home of motorcycle racing for 85 years hosting the Dutch TT and since 1992 the World Superbikes, two classic events on the World Championship Calendar. These classic events attract massive crowds and of course a festive atmosphere. The history of the TT Circuit Assen goes back to 1925. Only during the second World War (1940-1945) were no events staged. Until 1954 the Dutch TT was held on public roads, and in 1955 a special 7.7 Km circuit was built for the 25th Dutch TT. Until the early seventies the circuit was only used once a year for the Dutch TT. Nowadays the circuit is used for several World Championships and international and national race meetings, but the most important annual event next to the Dutch TT is the Dutch Round of the World Superbikes. Since 1998 the circuit and its facilities have been constantly improved. In recent years Assen was again the scene of hard work. Winter 2005/2006 saw the reshaping of the North Loop. The overall length of the circuit was shortened before the start of the 2006 season, from 5.997 to 4.555 kilometres. A positive consequence of this is that it will be easier to follow the races. Winter of 2006/2007 saw the rebuilding of the grandstands on the North Loop, permanent structures replacing the temporary grandstands. Home of the 85th Dutch TT and 24th Dutch WSBK. There re plenty of campsites at the circuit - there s no need to pre-book - and the town, plus its bars and restaurants are within walking distance. The DUTCH MotoGP, universally known as the TT, is the only European MotoGP to be held on a Saturday. Thursday and Friday are practice and qualifying for the MotoGP and support races. During Friday evening it s party time in Assen. Saturday is Race Day which besides the Moto3, Moto2 and the MotoGP there will also be two supporting races, usually a round of the the Red Bull Rookies Cup and for 2015 a round of the Sidecar World Championship. This is one of Europe s biggest events attracting between 160,000 to 170,000 spectators over the three days. The DUTCH WSBK is renowned for its annual invasion of British fans. 2007 saw the event being moved from its traditional September date to the end of April. Again for this year your circuit admission ticket also allows you free access to all of the grandstands with unreserved seating including the Geert Timmer Tribune and the covered Hoofdtribune.
