TRADITIONAL SHOTOKAN KARATE SOUTH AFRICA WORLD JKA KARATE ASSOCIATION NEWS LETTER 2016 I want to thank every Dojo Head and their members for their support during 2016. We have grown from 185 members to 511 members. Thank you to the new members in believing in our Organization. I would also like to thank the team TSKSA Board members in the way that they ran the day to day business of the Organization. Everything ran like clockwork and the finances of the Organization was used in a responsible manner and all funds are accounted for. We saw an increase of competitors at our events and that can be contributed to the professional manner we host our events. In 2016 our Organization secured to host the 7 th WJKA World Champs and Kohai Cup in 2019. The event will take place in Uitenhage at the Uitenhage Indoor Sport Centre. Big congratulation to all the members (49 in total) who have been selected to represent WJKA South Africa and also the parents travelling with the team as supporters (30 in total) to attend the 6 th WJKA World Champs and Kohai Cup later this year in Vlissingen the Netherlands. REFEREE, JUDGES AND TABLE OFFICIAL COURSE The year started with a Referee, Judges and Table Official course on 2016-03- 12 at the Despatch Dutch Reform Church Hall in Despatch. The course was represented by the Chief Instructor Sensei Riaan le Roux and he was assisted by Sensei Ian Janse van Rensburg and Sensei Shaun Joubert NEW MEMBERS FOR TRADITIONAL SHOTOKAN KARATE SOUTH AFRICA- WJKASA Sensei Tanaka Tsapi and his Dojo Tanaka Karate Institute from Port Elizabeth joined our Organization and the WJKA family on 2016-05-19. Sensei Tanaka was previously with SAFSK.
Sensei Erwee Tiran and his Dojos Titan Sydenham and Titan Kabega Park from Port Elizabeth joined our Organization and the WJKA family on 2016-05-19. Sensei Erwee was previously with SAFSK. Sensei Bert Ulay and his Dojo King Karate Club from Kings Williams Town joined our Organization and the WJKA family on 2016-08-22. Sensei Bert was previously with SASKA. Sensei Michael van der Westhuizen and his Dojo Tatsu from Middelburg, Mpumalanga joined our Organization and the WJKA family on 2016-09-14. Sensei Michael was previously with SAFSK.
WJKA SA NATIONAL TABLE OFFICIALS These six ladies are our first official WJKA SA National Table Officials who took the course and through 2016 they officiated at WJKA SA National and Club level tournaments. PLETTENBERG BAY Sensei Ian Janse van Rensburg and Sensei Shaun Joubert was invited to Plettenberg Bay Goju Ryu Dojo on 2016-09-17 to educate the students and parents on the WJKA Competition Rules and Regulation. The presentation was well received by the parents and students. Sensei Shaun also took the students for a kumite drill session after the presentation. 1 st WJKA SA IPPON CUP 2016 The first WJKA SA Ippon Cup was held in Ernst Swanepoel Hall, Despatch. The WJKA Competition Rules and Regulations was well received by the competitors and guest competitors especially the contact rule. The tournament went smooth under the watch full eye of Sensei Riaan le Roux. Only one injury occurred during the tournament. At the 2 nd WJKA SA Ippon Cup in 2017 we will add Team Kumite to the event. RECRUITMENT COURSE FOR NEW REREFEREE, JUDGES AND TABLE OFFICIAL A recruitment drive on 2016-10-22 was held to train more Referees, Judges and Table Officials. The course was well attended and all attendees received an attendance certificate. Similar courses will be presented in 2017. Course was presented by Sensei Ian Janse van Rensburg and Sensei Shaun Joubert. TSKSA-WJKA implemented on 2016-11-19 the new TSKSA-WJKA Lifebook which will be compulsory for all members when they affiliate in 2017. The cost of the Lifebook is R50.00. Also from 2017 at the WJKA National gradings the WJKA tie (R150.00) and WJKA blazer badge (R50.00) will be a compulsory package and will form part of the whole grading package.
