SELECTION CRITERIA 2019 CANADA WINTER GAMES DRAFT Canada Winter Games (CWG) is an opportunity for athletes in the train to compete stage of long term athlete development to participate in a multisport winter games. Freestyle BC aims to select a team that has the most medal potential at the CWG. CWG flag points are a secondary objective to the overall medal count. Freestyle BC will select a 2019 CWG team, to represent Team BC, comprised of 6 male athletes and 6 female athletes to compete in the disciplines of: moguls, aerials, slopestyle, halfpipe and big air. The Freestyle BC selection commiמּee reserves the right to amend this criteria without notice in order to best represent the province and ultimately earn the largest number of medals at the CWG. The selection commiמּee consists of the BC Mogul Team Head Coach, BC Park & Pipe Team Head Coach, 3 members of the Freestyle BC High Performance Commiמּee and the Freestyle BC Executive Director. TIME FRAME 2019 CWG Team Selection period: November 1st, 2017 to January 31st 2019, inclusively. ELIGIBLITY To be eligible for selection to the 2019 CWG BC Team an athlete must: Have an active membership with Freestyle Canada indicating that they are part of a Freestyle BC registered club. Be registered in a Freestyle BC club program; or be registered to the BC Freestyle Ski Team. Have no outstanding debt with Freestyle BC or a Freestyle BC registered club. SELECTION METHOD Selection of BC athletes to the BC CWG Team will be based on the CWG ranking lists for mogul and new school disciplines. There will be separate ranking lists for mogul and new school. The ranking list will also be categorized by gender. All athletes eligible for selection will be ranked using their 4 highest ranking events. The mogul ranking list will be calculated using the relative point average (RPA) method. The mogul ranking list will be used for mogul events only, however athletes will be required to compete in both moguls and aerials. An athlete s score is compared to the overall winner. The table of eligible events and the corresponding weights can be found in the appendix. The new school ranking list will be calculated using place value points. The table of eligible events and the corresponding point values can be found in the appendix. The new school ranking list will include slopestyle, big air and halfpipe events. Athletes selected based on this ranking will be required to compete in slopestyle, halfpipe and big air at CWG. A maximum of one big air place value will be included in the new school ranking list. The CWG selection commiמּee, with input from BC Team coaches and Freestyle Canada HPAD, will review the placing value points a er each event. Adjustments of up to 20% will be made to provide the most accurate overall standings. Weighting can be adjusted in either the positive or negative direction. Adjustments do not have to be made. Factors that will be considered when making adjustments to the place value points will include: Field size (Total number of athletes) Depth of field (Ability level of athletes) Canadian National Team representation. International athlete representation. Difficulty of course/features. Prize money. AFP assessment of points. The CWG selection commiמּee reserves the right to select athletes based on Special Ranking considerations or Extraordinary circumstance clause. The Page 2 of 8

Freestyle BC HP Commiמּee, with input from the BC Team Head Coaches, reviews all maמּers related to selection. The Freestyle BC Executive Director will be a member of this commiמּee and hold final decision. SELECTION PROCESS The selection of athletes to participate in the Canada Winter Games is the responsibility of the Executive Director, acting on the recommendations of the CWG Selection Commiמּee. The Executive Director may overrule the decision of the commiמּee. All revisions to selection documents shall, unless otherwise specifically indicated, come into effect immediately upon their ratification by Executive Director of Freestyle BC. A long list of eligible athletes will be circulated to Freestyle BC head coaches June 30th, 2018. The short list of selected athletes and alternates will be posted January 31st, 2019. Athletes will have 72 hours to accept their CWG spot before being offered to the next athlete on the corresponding ranking list. APPEALS An appeal of any decision of the CWG Commiמּee may be made by any Freestyle BC member in good standing. Appeals must be conducted in accordance with the Appeals Policy established by Freestyle BC. GENERAL Issues not otherwise covered by this document are subject to the decision of the Executive Director of Freestyle BC, in consultation with the CWG Selection Commiמּee. Page 3 of 8

APPENDIX A ELIGIBLE EVENTS AND WEIGHTING - MOGULS Event Weight BC Timber Tour 65% Canadian Series 75% Junior Nationals 75% Senior Nationals 90% NorAm 95% Canadian Selections 85% RELATIVE POINT AVERAGE (RPA) METHOD Relative point average (RPA) is the basis for ranking BC athletes in Moguls. RPA is determined by calculating the athlete s score relative to the top score of the event. For example: The best score of a mogul run is 24.6. This score results in a RPA of 1000. The next best score is 23.1. Applying the RPA formula: 23.1 / 24.6 = 0.939 or a RPA of 939. The resulting RPA score is then multiplied by the event weighting to determine the athlete s final score for the event. Once all scores are converted to RPA they are ranked from highest to lowest. Athletes will only be allowed to use 1 RPA score from each competition. RPA calculations will automatically use the higher RPA from a competition. Page 4 of 8

APPENDIX C SPECIAL RANKING CONSIDERATIONS The Freestyle BC HP Commiמּee may in some cases choose to select athletes out of the initial ranking order. In such cases the commiמּee must record in detail the reasons for its decisions. These reasons must support the program goals outlined at the beginning of this document. Special Ranking Considerations include, but are not limited to the following examples: An athlete who is showing excellent results and increasing her or his performance results may be moved higher than their calculated ranking. An athlete who shows excellent physical characteristics and / or technical capability; may be moved higher than her or his calculated ranking. This is more likely to happen early in an athlete s career. Rational: in some stages of development an athlete may focus on training and not perform as well at competition. An athlete who has had opportunities and is not advancing towards the program goal may move lower than her or his calculated ranking. When there is a relatively narrow point spread between two athletes, there is greater chance of out of order selection. An athlete with strong work ethic and commitment to training opportunities may move ahead of an athlete who has not demonstrated these traits. Athletes who have reached major event podiums in recent years. SCORE ANOMALY In some circumstances, there are 3 to 4 counting events on the same course within a short time frame, o en with all events judged by the same panel. This scenario may warrant an out of order selection. Page 7 of 8

EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES Extraordinary circumstances include, but are not limited to circumstances such as injury, or death in the family. The HP commiמּee will nominate athletes they feel do qualify under this clause. If an athlete misses an entire season due to health related curtailment of activities the selection period will be extended backwards to a maximum of one season. If an athlete misses a portion of the competition season due to health related curtailment of activities, the selection period will be extended backwards. The selection commiמּee has the discretion to make exceptions to injury clause for special cases. This may include expanding the backwards extension of the selection period, or other adjustments to meet the special case. Freestyle BC may, at any time, require an athlete who is unable to participate in training or competition due to injury, to obtain a medical assessment from a team physician. The purpose of the medical assessment is to confirm the degree of the athlete's injury and the anticipated time of the athlete's recovery. The selection commiמּee, with input from medical experts, may prevent an athlete from entering the event if the pace of the athlete s rehabilitation from injury warrants doing so. Page 8 of 8
