Parade Map and General Information Lineup will begin at 7:00 a.m. Please enter the site at the stop light in front of the school. The parade will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Please note that the parade line-up site will be at the parking lot on the SOUTH side of Muncie Central High School. This is the same lot used last year. There will be no parking allowed on Muncie Central grounds. Please make arrangements to be dropped off. All parade entry forms, release of liability, and payment must be submitted with at the Art and Journalism Building, Events Registration Table, or the Alumni Association office, by 4:00 p.m., Thursday, September 23. (Note: this will be the only day the table will be set up at AJ. You may also drop off forms at the Alumni Association office any time M-F between 8-5). **Due to space and time constraints, the parade will be limited to the first 30 campus and 20 community entries! Parade Float Information Float Rules: All campus floats must get a police escort to the lineup site, located at the SOUTH PARKING LOT of Muncie Central High School. This is the same lot that was used last year. There will be volunteers on site to direct you into the lot the morning of the parade. For an escort, contact the University Police Department at 285-1111. The parade will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Entries should arrive at the parade lineup site at 7:00 a.m. Please arrange to be dropped off at the parade site or ride on the float/vehicle you plan to drive in the parade. There will be no additional space for parking vehicles not used in the parade. Float Size: Maximum measurements for floats are: 15 feet high (from the ground) 11 feet wide and 22 feet long. Jeeps, flatbed trucks, pick-ups, etc. may be used for floats. A standard hay wagon or farm wagon may also be used at the base. (A standard hay wagon consists of a frame and four wheels). The height restriction of 15 feet has been adopted for your protection so that the float will clear all the wires and trees along the parade route. All floats must adhere to these limitations and be capable of negotiating corners on the parade route. In order to be in the float line-up, the float must adhere to the guidelines for the theme, form, and appearance, as specified on the final entry form. The Parade theme is Rock The Red. It is the responsibility of the participating organization to remove its float from the parade route and campus immediately following the parade. Each float entry is required to have a cloth banner preceding the float. The banner can be a maximum of 11 feet wide by 4 feet high and a minimum of 7 feet by 4 feet. o Banners must carry the names of participating organization(s) and sponsor(s). o Banners can carry any other designs suitable for the parade. o No more than two persons should carry banners at a time, but the carriers may change along the parade route as long as they are members of the sponsoring organization(s). Maximum cost for construction of the float should not exceed $500. Two cars are permitted to accompany each float without paying an additional fee. Cars that accompany floats will line up behind the float. Cars may have a maximum of five persons each. Float entries can have up to 15 persons walk behind without paying an additional fee. Campus Parade Car/Walking Information and Entry Form Parade Car/Walking Unit Rules (for those not entering floats): The parade line-up site will be located at the SOUTH PARKING LOT of Muncie Central High School. This is the same lot that was used last year. There will be volunteers on site to direct you into the lot the morning of the parade. A separate entry form must be submitted for each car/walking unit entered in the Homecoming parade. Car/Walking entries must be identified by a sign which includes the sponsoring organization represented or a sign identifying the individuals riding in the vehicle. Decorations should reflect the theme of Rock The Red. For safety reasons, the vehicle should carry a reasonable and sensible number of individuals (i.e. a fullsized automobile is limited to a maximum of five individuals.) There is $20 entry fee for car/walking units. Car/walking units consist of no more than two cars, with a maximum of five persons per car and 15 walkers per unit. The parade will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Entries should arrive at the line-up site, located at Muncie Central High School parking lot, by 7:00 a.m. Please arrange to be dropped off at the parade site or ride in the vehicle you plan to drive in the parade. There will be no additional space for parking vehicles not used in the parade. Parade Golf Cart Information and Entry Form Parade Golf Cart Unit Rules: The parade line-up site will be located at the SOUTH PARKING LOT of Muncie Central High School. There will be volunteers on site to direct you into the lot the morning of the parade. Units consist of no more than one driver, with a maximum of ten walkers. Decorating materials must not exceed $200 and may consist of anything not damageable to the cart. Decorations should adhere to the 2010 theme Rock The Red. All participants must sign a Release of Liability form. The parade will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Entries should arrive at the line-up site by 7:00 a.m. to decorate the golf cart. Please arrange to be dropped off at the parade site. There will be no additional space for parking vehicles not used in the parade. Major decorations may be assembled beforehand (see measurements in diagram). Remove all decorations at the end of the parade route and return the keys at the drop off location (Ball State Commuter Lot near Worthen Arena) after the parade ends. Parade Release of Liability All Entries I, the undersigned, herby request permission to participate in the Parade, sponsored by the Ball State University Homecoming Steering Committee, to be conducted Saturday, October 9. I have read the rules pertaining to the event and have inspected or have knowledge of the premises where the activities will be conducted. I know the risks and dangers involved in such activities, including but not limited to, damage to my person and property that may be sustained in connection with the stated and any associated activity in and about the premises. In consideration of the permission granted to me to enter and participate in the stated activity, I hereby, for myself, my heirs, administrators, and assigns, release and discharge the causes of action, of any sort for injury sustained to my person and/or property during my presence on the premises and my participation in the activity, due to negligence, fault or any other cause. I voluntarily assume the risk of injury to my person and property. For golf cart entries: I also will not damage the cart and will return the cart back in original form to the set destination and time. If not, I will pay any damages that the Homecoming Steering Committee must incur to fix any sort of damages. I represent and certify that my true age is listed below, and if I am under the age of 18 years I represent and certify that I have the permission of my parents and/or guardians to participate in the stated activity and that they have full knowledge thereof. If I am under the age of 18 years, said permission of my parents and/or guardians shall be set forth on the document below my signature. I certify that my attendance and participation in the stated activity is voluntary, and that I am not in any way the employee, servant, or agent of owners, operators, or sponsors of the premises of the activity.
