from the Head golf professional What a full and exciting tournament season we had this year. We ve nearly completed our tournament calendar for 2018 with a primary goal of striking a balance between our tournament playing Members and our non-tournament playing Members. 2018 is going to be another exciting year! Paul Shorts Head Golf Professional Our annual Holiday Sip - n - Shop will be held on Saturday, December 16th from 4:00-7:00 PM. This Catta Verdera tradition is a great opportunity to pick up some Christmas gifts, or simply indulge yourself; all at special pricing you will only get that evening. Watch for more details coming to you via email. Personal golf cars and child drivers When using one of the Club s golf cars, our insurance requires all operators to be over the age of 18. While we can not necessarily in direct control of who operates personal golf cars on the property, we need to make sure that any golf car being operated on one of the golf course cart paths has at the very minimum a driver with a valid California driver s license. We have had several incidents reported that involved golf cars driven by children cutting across a hole right as golfers are hitting. This not only disrupts the round of the golfers, but is extremely hazardous to the people in the golf car. Score posting - Just a reminder to all Club Members, it is the handicap committee s duty to monitor play by our Members and do regular audits to ensure scores are being posted when rounds are played. Members who fail to post on multiple occasions will be assessed penalty scores in accordance with NCGA and USGA and Club guidelines. Member/Member Results - The weather forecast for our Member/Member tournament was dismal at best. Rain was predicted for all day Friday and Saturday. The Men s Club board pushed ahead with what seemed like in the face of all reason - optimism. Their gamble paid off both days, and almost the entire event was played in dry conditions. In fact, the second day start time was pushed back to 10:00 AM, and the heavy morning rain stopped entirely right at 9:59 AM! Congratulations to the 2017 Member/Member champions - Ron Fisher and Ernie Barkhurst! Tough Day Results - We had much better weather this year for our Red Solo Cup, and 122 brave souls took on a very challenging golf course. Congratulations to Sam Sommerhauser! 2017 Tuff Day Champion. Sam shot a gross 75 from the back tees on a very difficult set up! Sincerely, Paul Shorts Santa Claus Sure, you probably knew that Santa Claus came from St. Nicholas, a Christian bishop living in the fourth century AD. St. Nicholas gave away his abundant inheritance to help the needy. He also was known for good deeds like rescuing sisters from prostitution. As his legend spread, he was eventually known by names like Sinter Klaas in Dutch which morphed into Santa Claus. He s not just the protector of children, either. St. Nicholas is also the patron saint of unmarried women, prisoners, thieves and pawnbrokers. Are you on the nice list this year?

Catta Verdera Women Golfers Thank You, From Your Captain Diana Nyman I would like to personally thank the CVWG for selecting me as your 2017 Captain. It has been my honor and pleasure to volunteer. I have been fortunate to get to know so many ladies this year, on and off the golf course. I believe we ve made great strides in seeking to create new and inclusive social events and fun golf games throughout the year. Whether it s Thursday or Saturday Play days, Nine and Wine, Guest Days, The Mini, Lads and Lassies, Tuff Day, Catta Bella, Solheim Cup, Turkey Shoot, Boo Shoot, and I ve probably forgot a few events, too...we are very lucky to have such a wonderful group of ladies, and incredible volunteers to organize these events, plus a first-class golf course to continue to work on our golf talents! It s been a memorable year. Linda Bunker as Captain, and Stacey Sommerhauser as Co-Captain will be your 2018 leaders, and your Board and volunteers for key positions have already signed up and they will be awesome, too! Child Advocates of Placer County Our CVWG Board has selected for the past several years, Child Advocates Of Placer County, as the beneficiary of our Holiday Donations by you. As a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and past Board Member, I can personally attest to the meaningful impact your donations have made to our foster youth in Placer County. If you plan on attending the event, and would consider contributing a $25 Target Gift card, or if you cannot attend and would like to drop one off at the Pro Shop, your generous donation is truly appreciated. I will deliver the gift cards to the CASA office, located at Sunset and 65. The mission of Child Advocates of Placer County: We are a bridge between the most vulnerable in our community, and caring individuals who want to help. Ramiro Sena Course Superintendent Superintendent s Update We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are coming to the end of the good weather. We will soon need to stop special projects such as the bunker renovation as the rains will be here shortly. We will also be wrapping up the project between 9 & 10, and hope to complete it before the heavy rains are here. We will smooth the area between these two holes and the creek in particular. Once smooth, we will line it with fabric to prevent any erosion or weed encroachment and cover with rock on top. Also, we re finally removing the stumps off of right side of number 8 Fairway and started the branch/brush chipping throughout the course. As a reminder, please observe the 90-degree rule throughout the course. Due to the rains most shaded areas will be wet. Please also keep the carts away from these areas. We hope to see you on the course as often as the weather allows.
