Rolex Fastnet Campaign 2013 For 2013 we will be running our third Rolex Fastnet Campaign on up to four of our 72ft Challenger Yachts. Berths are open to anyone with some sailing experience aged between 18 65, however you will need to be reasonably fit to enjoy the campaign.the spirit of the campaign is about enjoying yourself with a competitive element. The Fastnet Race is a classic. Take your place on our Fastnet campaign and become part of something special. Train and compete with a Fastnet yacht racing team and experience one of the greatest races in the world. The Fastnet Race Challenger package includes team gear, comprehensive race training & three RORC qualifying races and the RYA Sea Survival & ISAF Offshore safety course. The Royal Ocean Racing Club - who are the race organisers of the Fastnet race have a strict entry criteria for both yachts and crews wishing to compete. The yacht / skipper / crew must complete 300 miles in offshore races as a team in the 12 months before the race. Training Weekend April This will be your first opportunity to get to know your yacht. Starting with the basics you will soon have grasped how to tack, gybe and helm the yacht. Once these skills have been mastered you will move onto the basics of racing the yacht. You will join the yacht 1000 on the 20 April and finish at 1600 on the 21 April. Overall the Training Weekend is about getting to know your crew and starting to learn about your yacht. Cervantes Trophy Race 4 May Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in association with the Société des Régates and the Royal Yacht Squadron. You will join the yacht on Friday morning with the race starting early on the Saturday morning. The passage back to Portsmouth will be on the Monday.
Myth of Malham Race 25 May Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in association with the Royal Yacht Squadron. You will join the yacht on Friday morning in preparation for a race start early Saturday morning. The race starts off Cowes and heads west to round the Eddystone rocks and then back to Cowes. The race is approximately 230 nm. Morgan Cup Race 28 June Organised by the Royal Ocean racing Club in association with the Royal Thames Yacht Club and the Royal Yacht Squadron. You will join the yacht on Friday morning with the race due to start in the evening (tbc). The race is to Dieppe via marks. The passage back to Portsmouth will be on the Sunday with an early evening ETA.
Rolex Fastnet Race 11 August The Rolex Fastnet Yacht Race is probably the most famous offshore yacht race in the world which has been organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club since 1925. Around 300 yachts battle it out against the elements and each other the course is simple - Cowes to Plymouth via the Fastnet Rock off the southern tip of Ireland. At over 600 miles from start to finish, this race is THE aspirational race for novice and experienced sailors alike. The race is likely to last 3 5 days very much depending on the weather, so expect to be back in Plymouth by Saturday 17 August at the latest. Expect to be joining your yacht early on Friday 9 August. RYA Sea Survival & ISAF Offshore Safety Course 20 th April ISAF Offshore Safety module 1000-1700 Classroom session 21 st April RYA Sea Survival Course 0930-1500 Classroom session 1600 1800 Pool session We will send further details of the courses nearer the time. Please note for some crews the courses may be run the other way around.
What s included? A berth on the training weekend, three RORC qualifying races and the Rolex Fastnet 2013 race ISAF Offshore Safety Course & RYA Sea Survival course All meals will be included while on board Use of wet weather gear and safety equipment All race entry fees Crew jacket and team polo shirt (to keep) Full insurance while training and racing on the water Crew Experience The crew will be made up of people who are enthusiastic about sailing and racing a yacht. You will need to have done some sailing but not necessarily have racing experience. If you have already sailed on the Challengers on a previous voyage so much the better. However, we do ask that you have a reasonable level of fitness as some of the tasks are physically demanding. One thing which may come out of the first training weekend is that you might need to work on your fitness before racing! Our standard booking conditions apply, which include our medical declaration and additionally we ask you to summarise your sailing experience in fewer than 150 words and submit this with your booking form. Your experience will be reviewed before a berth is offered. Price The full campaign cost is 3, 495. The initial payment with booking is 999. 624 is then due on the first of April, May, June & July. If you pay the entire balance on the 1 st April a 5% discount will be offered. Please note our standard cancellation terms apply from the training weekend dates.
The campaign is offered subject to RORC not altering their race programme for 2013 and not changing their entry requirements for the Rolex Fastnet 2013. Book Now For The Experience of a Lifetime Rounding the rock it was really foggy but then the fog kindly lifted and there it was,the infamous Fastnet Rock! It was an immense feeling and we were all buzzing, the wind then picked up and we were off racing back towards Plymouth The camaraderie amongst the crew was superb. Toni www.tallships.org
