OF PAGES AND APPENDICES: 6 + appendices ABSTRACT This is a brief summary of the journey to Albania by Ida G. Aursand and Leif Grimsmo 24. 28. June 203 in connection with WP where the main objective is to improve the quality of the catch by introducing best handling practice on-board the Western Balkan fishing vessels. The main goals with the journey was to: a) Meet the Ph.D. student Mr Roland Kristo and go through for the planned research survey with the small pelagic purse seiner "Mare Adriatik". b) Train Mr Roland Kristo in use of experimental equipment including temperature logging software. c) Complete a research survey with the small pelagic purse seiner "Mare Adriatik" owned by the industrial partner in this work package. Because of private special circumstances we met Mr Roland Kristo only Monday 24. June, but we managed to complete a) and b) with him. Due to bad weather the cruise with "Mare Adriatik" was postponed, but we had a brief examination of the fishing boat and the equipment installed on-board when the boat was in the port of Shengjin. Dr. Jerina Kolitari from the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, Agricultural University of Tirana and her master student Gulielm Kroqi facilitated the rest of our journey. We visited the laboratory facilities in Durrës where we went through the experimental equipment and did examination of sardines (Sardina pilchardus, Walb.) from on the local fish market. We also visited and went trough the sardine processing plant for the company Mare Adriatik with Mr. Mark Babani (owner and general manager of the enterprise). of 6
