SMU Basketball SMU has turned out 21 NBA draft picks and has won 14 Conference Championships. The Mustangs have been to 10 NCAA Tournaments and have had three All-Americans. SMU plays in the 8,000 seat Moody Coliseum. Young Mustangs SMU is one of the youngest teams in the nation with just 11 years of experience between 11 players. SMU This Year SMU is 4-0 for the first time since 2001-01. The Mustangs won their first game under Larry Brown, a 73-58 victory over Loyola Marymount. They then defeated TCU 64-61 and Texas State 78-75 before hosting Malone Monday night as part of the Hoops for Hope Classic. Against Texas State SMU had 11 blocked shots. Against Malone, a Division II team from Canton, Ohio, SMU s Jalen Jones scored 20 points in the 81-47 blowout. H M M b L M N 2 Head Mustang SMU is coached for the first year by Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown. Brown has won an NCAA Title (Kansas in 1988) and an NBA Title (Detroit Pistons 2004). He is the sixth winningest coach in NBA history with almost 1100 victories and took teams to the playoffs 18 times. He coached the Charlotte Bobcats to the playoffs in 2010. He coached for seven years on the college level (Kansas and UCLA), compiling a 180-61 record and took three teams to the Final Four. He also coached the US Olympic team to a bronze medal in 2004.

Bronc Briefs **Rider is located in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, between Princeton and Trenton, between New York City and Philadelphia. **Rider is in its 16 th season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. **Rider began the 2008-09 season ranked 21 st in the nation among Mid-Majors according to CollegeInsider.com **The Broncs advanced to the MAAC Championship Game in 2008 and were selected to play in the inaugural College Basketball Invitational. ** Rider won a program-record 59 games between 2009 and 2011. Rider in Season Openers The Broncs won the 2012-13 season opener vs. Robert Morris on November 9. Rider won the 2009-10 season opener at Mississippi State, but has lost the last two. The Broncs lost the opener last season at Robert Morris. Rider is 4-7 in the last 11 season openers. Rider lost the 2010-11 season opener at UMass. Rider lost the 2008-09 opener at St. Joseph s and the 2007-08 opener at Murray State. In 2006-07 Rider lost the opener at NJIT. The Broncs lost to Bucknell in both the 2005-06 and 2004-05 openers. Rider beat Brown in the 2003-04 opener and beat Monmouth in the 2002-03 season opener. Home Sweet Home-Rider in Broncs Zoo Rider begins the season with three home games. Rider played a lucky 13 home games last season. The Broncs have won 152 of their last 210 games in Alumni Gymnasium (.726), including 2-1 this year and 8-5 last year. Rider was 9-5 at home in 2010-11. In 2007-08 and 2008-09 the Broncs put together back-to-back 11-2 home records. The 1993-94 season was the best in Alumni Gym history, when Rider was 13-2, which included three wins in the Northeast Conference Championship tournament. Percentage-wise, 2001-02 was the best year in the Broncs Zoo, as Rider went 9-1. The Broncs were 10-2 in Alumni Gym in both 1997-98 and 2000-01. Ready For Prime Time Rider is 0-1 on national (ESPN) TV so far this year. Last year the Broncs were 1-0 on ESPN2, 3-5 on ESPN3, 0-1 on ESPN, 0-2 on ESPNU and 0-4 on Comcast. In 2011-12 the Broncs were 6-4 on T.V. In 2007-08 Rider was a best-ever 7-3 on national television. Rider in Home Openers The Broncs won the 2012-13 home opener vs. Robert Morris on November 9. The Broncs lost to Drexel in Alumni Gym at 6am on November 15, 2011 in the first home game last year. Rider won five home openers in a row before that and has won 14 of the last 17 home openers. ESPN3 On January 10, January 17, February 9 and February 17 Rider will play on ESPN3. ESPN3 is ESPN s live multiscreen sports network, a 24/7 destination that delivers thousands of global sports events annually and accessible online via WatchESPN.com. It is currently available to approximately 70 million homes at no additional cost to fans who receive their high-speed Internet connection or video subscription from an affiliated service provider. The network is also available at no cost to approximately 21 million U.S. college students and U.S.-based military personnel via computers connected to on-campus educational networks and on-base military networks. It is also accessible through ESPN on Xbox LIVE to Gold level members and on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app through an affiliated provider.

Head Coach Kevin Baggett Kevin Baggett was named the Rider head coach on May 24, 2012 after serving 16 years on the Division I level as an assistant. Baggett was an assistant for two years at Rider before being named Associate Head Coach in 2006-07. Baggett hails from Burlington, NJ and was a 2006 inductee into the South Jersey Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Saint Joseph s University 1985-86 team that compiled a 26-6 record and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He received his bachelor s degree in marketing from Saint Joseph s in June, 1989. Baggett came to Rider from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he served as assistant coach from 2004-06. Baggett has also served as an assistant coach at James Madison, Howard, Western Kentucky and Coastal Carolina. Rider in Exhibitions Rider defeated nationally ranked Division III Scranton 76-59 on November 3. In that game Daniel Stewart and Junior Fortunat combined for 29 points and 21 rebounds. The Broncs defeated Division II East Stroudsburg 74-61 last season in an exhibition game. In 2010-11 Rider played Division III TCNJ and won 80-42, In 2009-10 the Broncs beat Division II West Chester 75-52 and Rider beat East Stroudsburg 69-55 prior to the 2008-09 season. Good Morning In the last six years the Broncs are 2-2 in games that have started before noon. Rider defeated Florida A&M November 24, 2009 in a 10am tip off. On November 23, 2007 the Broncs defeated Penn State 82-73 in the Old Spice Classic at Disney World in a game that began at 10:30am. Last season Rider lost to Drexel in a 6am tip as part of the ESPN Marathon. And Away We Go Rider is 0-1 on the road this year. The Broncs were 5-10 in away games last season, not including 0-3 on neutral court. Rider was 11-6 in away games in 2010-11. The Broncs finished the 2009-10 regular season 8-8 on the road. The Broncs finished 7-8 on the road in 2008-09, including the postseason game at Liberty and were 5-4 in the MAAC. Rider finished the regular season 9-5 in away games in 2007-08 and was 3-2 on neutral court for a 12-7 record away from Alumni Gym. The Broncs were 7-9 on the road in 2006-07. Rider in Non-Conference Games Rider is 2-2 in non-conference games this year, 2-0 vs. NEC, 0-1 vs. the SEC and 0-1 vs. America East. The Broncs were 3-10 in non-conference games last year. Rider was 9-4 in non-conference games in 2010-11. The Broncs finished the regular season 7-6 in nonconference games in 2009-10. The Broncs were 6-6 in non-conference games in 2008-09, including the postseason game at Liberty. Rider finished the regular season 8-4 in non-conference games in 2007-08. Rider was 7-6 in non-conference games in 2006-07. Old Building, New Look When the Rider campus moved from downtown Trenton to the suburbs of Lawrenceville 53 years ago, the first building that was built on the old Pate Farm was The Alumni Gymnasium. The 1958 commencement officially opened the new building. Most of the original floor still remained until a heavy rain storm flooded the building during the summer of 2009 and a new floor was inserted during September and October. The new floor was first used November 4, 2009. The building also had the original heating system until the summer of 2012 when The Broncs Zoo was refurbished. Looking for Some Afternoon Delight Rider is 1-0 in afternoon games this year. Rider was 5-4 in afternoon games last season. The Broncs were 8-3 in afternoon games in 2010-11. Rider was 5-5 in afternoon games in 2009-10. The Broncs were 12-3 in afternoon games in 2008-09.

Youth Be Served The Broncs have seven new faces on the roster this season and return just two starters. Half A Grand Daniel Stewart compiled his 500th career point in his 53rd game and now has 646 career points and 479 rebounds. Veteran Jon Thom Senior point guard Jonathon Thompson, no relation to Jason 08 and Ryan 10, is a veteran of 98 Rider games and has compiled 282 assists (16th most ever at Rider) and just 151 turnovers. Last season he played over 32 minutes per game, a team-high. He ended 2011-12 on a high note, compiling 77 points, 18 assists and 19 rebounds in the last five games of the season, including a career-high 19 points in MAAC quarterfinal vs. Fairfield.. Sibling Rivalry The Stewart brothers, junior Daniel and freshman Derrick, are the third set of brothers to play for Rider in the last five years, joining the Mansell brothers, Harris 09 and Patrick 11, and the Thompson brothers, Jason 08 and Ryan 10. With Daniel as a senior and Derrick a sophomore, Neumann-Goretti High School was 30-1 and ranked second in the nation in 2009-10. Myles to Go...to Free Throw Line Anthony Myles shot a team-high.862 from the foul line as a sophomore, after shooting just.537 from the line as a freshman. Myles put together back-to-back 20 point games to start the 2011-12 season, at Robert Morris and at Pitt, making nine of 10 foul shots. Bursis the Politician Sophomore Emerson Bursis attended the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC, working as a surrogate for his grandmother, Ann Bursis, the State Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. A member of the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll, Bursis is an Economics and Finance double major who plans on attending law school upon graduation. Junior Varsity Junior Fortunat attended Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia his junior and seniors years, but it took the native of Montreal until December 9 of last year for the NCAA to clear him to play. After missing the first nine games of the season, Fortunat entered the Rider game at Florida and just 14 seconds into his collegiate career threw down a thunderous two-handed dunk. Philadelphia to Oklahoma to Queens to New Jersey Nurideen Lindsey took a different route to Rider. After compiling over 1300 points at Overbrook High without playing as a senior, Lindsey finished sixth in the nation (NJCAA) in scoring at Redlands Community College, averaging 22.3 points per game. At St. John s last year he averaged 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists, starting the first nine games of the 2011-12 season before transferring to Rider. MAAC Honors Nuri Lindsey was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week for all games played the opening week of the 2012-13 season. Lindsey compiled 26 points and five assists in his Rider debut, leading the Broncs to victory over Robert Morris in the 2012-13 season opener. Where is the Love Boat? The Broncs will take part in the Hoops for Hope Classic in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Thanksgiving Week. Puerto Vallarta was a frequent stop for television s Love Boat back in the 1970s. The Classic begins November 19 at South Carolina and features a stop at SMU November 21 before playing Jacksonville November 23 and UW Milwaukee November 25. South of Border Broncs Rider traveled to Cancun, Mexico three years ago to take part in the Cancun Challenge. The Broncs lost at Virginia and at Kentucky on the way to Mexico, where they beat Florida A&M before losing to Sam Houston. South of the Border Rider played in the Cancun Challenge in 2009-10, losing at Virginia and at Kentucky before traveling to Mexico, where Rider defeated Florida A&M and lost to Sam Houston State in Cancun. First Year Head Coaches Along with first year head coach Kevin Baggett, South Carolina and Southern Methodist also have first-year head coaches. Rider faced SC s Frank Martin in the 2008 Old Spice Classic when he coached Kansas State and had Michael Beasley. Rider trailed by just four points with 3:31 remaining before losing by 13. He has averaged 7.2 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists, along with his 10.5 ppg average. At Rider Thompson played 122 games and compiled 2,040 points and 1,171 rebounds. Richard Digger Phelps 64. Played basketball and golf at Rider, coached basketball at University of Notre Dame, currently works with ESPN, member of Rider Athletics Hall of Fame. Clair Bee. An accounting professor, founded Rider varsity sports in 1928-29 and coached football, basketball and baseball. Compiled a 53-7 three-year record in basketball before moving on to LIU, where he won National Championships. A member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Bee wrote the popular Chip Hilton books and invented the shot clock and the threesecond rule. Dick Kuchen 66. Graduated from Rider as the career leader in rebounds and was fifth in career scoring, made the winning fouls shots as Rider upset NYU. Was the head coach at Cal-Berkley and Yale. Harry Gamble 52 Captained the last football team at Rider (1951) and went on to be President of the Philadelphia Eagles. Jack Armstrong. An All-American pitcher for Rider in 1985 as a sophomore, went on to start the 1990 Major League All-Star game as a rookie pitcher for the World Champion Cincinnati Reds. r s Jack Madden 65. Graduated from Rider as the career leader in points and rebounds in basketball and was 20-5 as a Bronc pitcher on the baseball team.
