FROM THE BRIDGE JUNE WIGGINS, COMMODORE I have been attending the GYA and The MGYA meetings this past month. I have talked with other Commodores and members of other clubs. We are soooo lucky to be a part of such a great organization. It is their purpose to promote yacht racing on the gulf coast and nearby areas, promoting sportsmanship, friendship and camaraderie while doing this. This is what I would like to emphasize- sportsmanship and camaraderie. Our sailors are really making themselves known on the racing circuit. Congratulations to Holly and Joey and all the sailing team. They received the 100% participation of the Capdeville races again for 2011. Only three other clubs received this. Thanks to all of you for your hard work. Khloe and Erin won the award for the top 420. This is so awesome. Even if you don t sail, you can come and enjoy the friendship and camaraderie of our club. We are the friendliest club on the coast. GET INVOLVED and make it the best club. Come to the club more often. Lets make it the place you want to be. RACE AND SAIL COMMITTEE JAY KLASSEN Greetings fellow sailors. Spring is just around the corner and so is the 2012 Po'Boys Racing series. If you re not familiar with these races, they re open to all sailboats. We rate the skipper, not the boat, so our goal is to have everyone finishing as near as possible to the same time. Now you don t need to be an avid racer to participate, just be willing to get on the water with a few friends for a "timed cruise." We ll award prizes three deep for every race, and with the Po Boys ratings system everyone has a chance to win. And even if you don t have a boat but would like to give it a try, give me a call or just turn up at the skippers meeting and I ll do my best to get you on a boat. Someone is always looking for crew. The first race will be March 10 th. We ll meet at the club at 9:30am for registration and a chance to greet and tell tales over coffee and donuts, followed by the skippers meeting at 10:30 and the first start at noon. We ll repeat the process five more times to complete the spring series. The dates are: RACE I March 10, 2012 ACE IV March 31, 2012 RACE II - March 17, 2012 RACE V April 14, 2011 RACE III - March 24, 2012 RACE VI April 21, 2011 And again this year boats at Pass Christian will be able to start and finish outside their harbor. We ll all share the same course, you just get to choose your start / finish point. Check out http://www.longbeachyachtclub.com/nor_openregatta.htm for more information. Jay Klassen 713-775-7790 Jaybird1111@hotmail.com ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE JUNE WIGGINS I don t know about you- but are you sure this was January? We have a lot going on in February. We have gotten the fire pit going, so join us on Thursdays after you grill your own. It s always nice to sit by the fire and chat with friends. The Friday night game night has been fun, so we will continue this thru February. Come on down and bring the game you like- Scrabble, cards, Monopoly, Apples to Apples etc.. Don t forget the Friday night drawing at 8:30. You have to be present to win. Coming in February: Feb 4 th -the Lobster and /or steak dinner; February 5 th is Superbowl Sunday (starts at 5pm). February 11 th is the Mardi Gras Parade and After Party (about 7 PM; February 25 th is the Commodore s Ball. Lots going on in February.

HOUSE COMMITTEE JULIE NOBLE Well, the month of January has been a little slower than December. I absolutely love the Christmas season but am a bit tired when it is over. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. We have had some great "eats" on Friday nights at the club Dick Marx's Reuben Sandwiches, Shelda s oyster and artichoke soup, and Joe's Cheesy Chicken Soup to name a few. Thank you to everyone who cooks, serves, cleans up, etc., and especially to our "girl Friday" bartender, Linda. We couldn't do it without you all. If anyone has a specialty you would like to prepare (or have someone else prepare with your recipe) for a Friday night, just let us know. Some folks have been playing card games, Scrabble etc., on Friday night as well, so come down and join the fun. February is going to be a busy, busy month - Lobster Dinner, Superbowl, Mardi Gras and the Commodore's Ball as well as our Thursday Grill-Your-Own Nights, etc. Please make plans to attend as many of these great functions as you can. Please check the calendar for all upcoming events, look for flyers and reminders that might be sent to you via email, and, as always, we look forward to seeing you at your club. We are adding a new incentive for those of you who participate in club activities. For every $25.00 you spend at the Long Beach Yacht Club bar on food and/or drinks during any billing period, you will be rewarded with a free drink. The billing period is from the 28th of the month through the 27th of the next month. If your charge privileges are suspended, you will not be eligible to earn free drinks. The free drinks are the drink of your choice and must be redeemed during the next billing period after being earned. You will be able to see where you stand on free drinks by looking at your bar receipt. Wow, what a DEAL! See you @ the club. 02/02 Broccoli Tetrazzini Creamed Corn 02/09 Pasta & Marinara Green Beans 02/16 Corn Casserole Fried Okra THURSDAY NIGHT MENU 02/23 Potato Casserole Steamed Broccoli HAPPY HOUR Each Friday 4-7 PM
